Hello everyone!
I noticed that this time around, there were a lot of references to real world things, as well as to other games, so I thought I'd make a thread dedicated to some of your favourite references! (Sorry if this has been created already...)

A few of my favourites included:

Spoiler: Case 2
When Apollo says "Then it must be one big bird! And not of the friendly yellow type, either!"
Image

Spoiler: Case 3
When Blaquill says "Hmph, a most roundabout trial. I much prefer the turnabout variety myself."

Spoiler: Case 4(I think?)
Not totally sure if it's a reference, but when Starbuck says ".........Banish me to the moon...I don't care anymore..." All I could think of was Image

Spoiler: Case 5
If you get a penalty from the judge in this case (not sure if it happens in other cases) then he may say "Mr. Wright! How dare you take me for a follishly foolish fool! Unacceptable!"
He's quoting our dear prosecutor :franny:

That's all I have right now, but I'm sure there are TONS I've overlooked!

Is this a collection of references for within the Ace Attorney series, or from media outside as well? Either way, a lot of it is already collected at the TVTropes page. There's a lot you missed, including one from the downloadable costumes.

I can't believe you missed...

Spoiler: Case 3
When they were talking about the cardboard-box and Apollo said: "I hope there isn't a SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE inside."
I mean, so obvious MGS-Reference. xD

An obvious Sailor Moon reference.

Haha! SEGA reference.

I'm sure there were more (The 50 shades of grey was the first that came to mind)

Although, the best reference was in T&T where Grossberg says "My hemorrhoids are doing the Harlem Shake!" (It's way too funny that there became a meme of that exact name 5 years later, how's that for predicting Pop Culture!)

The scent of fresh lemons gives him the power to look into the future of what happens 5 years later.

Um, that was in the HD version, not the DS version. The song "the Harlem Shake" didn't even exist in 2005. But both the song and the HD remake came out this year. Capcom obviously thought (while the Harlem Shake was big for like two weeks) it would be funny to add it into the text. Albeit the game came out after the popularity was lost, but whatever. :shoe:

No, actually, it was in the DS version. I just did a T&T runthrough shortly before DD, and it was there.

The ORIGINAL Harlem Shake existed in the 80s. The reference was a glorious coincidence.

According to good ol' wikipedia, The Harlem Shake was a dance that originated in Harlem, New York in 1981, but it became popular in 2001 and then again this year :phoenix:

There was a Soul Calibur reference I came across as I was finishing the game. When talking about how Ponco's memories still being intact even after dismantling, the Judge says something along the lines of: "It's as if it was seriously wounded, but the soul still burns." That cracked me up a bit.

Blackquill's LOTR references made me smile.

"Tricksy tanuki, fool of a tanuki," etc.

Now, even if you apologize...I will not forgive you.

I remember in Case 4, during a cross-examination, Phoenix says something along the lines of, "If that makes him such a glorious man, then I'm the King of All Cosmos!"

There was a moment in the 4th case where Yuri Cosmos referred to himself as a man of "Intensity, Intelligence and Integrity", a reference to professional wrestler Kurt Angle's former tagline. Surprised they didn't use that one in the second case since it was all about professional wrestlers.

Spoiler: DD & GK2 SPOILERS
Supposedly, during the DLC case, Turnabout Reclaimed, Athena mentions something along the lines of animal therapy. Some believe that this is a nod to GK2's second turnabout.

I forget what case it is, but when the judge tells the defense to stop competing for "the greatest freak-out ever" was one of my favorite moments!

I'm working on that case with GK2's fan translation and that thougt did cross my mind. Glad I'm not the only one.

Although I don't see it as a nod to GK2 and more of a broader sea of psychology that Athena can approach, it would be nice if they started referencing each game.

I just realized this one. In case 5, someone says to Athena, "Listen with those special ears of yours," which may or may not be a reference to a 1-800-contacts commercial which contains the line, "Look, look with your special eyes!"

I don't know if anyone's already mentioned it yet, but several of Yuri Cosmos' stars that fell off during his breakdown had eyes on them similar to those in a lot of Mario games.

Surprised nobody brought up this yet.

When Apollo fails a Mood Matrix in Case 2 (I'm pretty sure it was Case 2, might've been 3), Athena will ask "Hello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me."

Apollo's thought response then says "(Yes, there is someone home)".

If this game hurt anyone, then after this, I'd say that there is no pain. It's now receding.
