I mentioned a bit in the Unintentional GS Connections thread, but basically, a certain Chinese speech competition program inspired this idea.

I hope a future title in this series will address an issue commonly recurring in today's society that the games never really touched upon: the view the general public holds of those previously convicted. How do people react to them if they're released and how can it be changed for the better? This would be an ideal theme of discussion if we ever get to see Godot again. If not him, at least let us see how Blackquill fairs amongst the populace as someone who spent seven whole years in prison, despite being innocent all along.

It doesn't have to overtake an entire case, but it shouldn't be stuck into one of the cases and left at that. I've heard many complaints about how Godot is "overrated", but I'm among those fans who believe he's justified to be overrated. Perhaps T&T just didn't give as clear a view of him as it could have (though it sure seemed clear enough to me).

My problem with Godot more lies in his appearances before 3-5 than 3-5 itself. I also don't like how many fans treat him like a hero when at best, he's a tragic anti-hero. I also don't think he's anywhere close to being the best AA character but he always tops lists

I wouldn't mind seeing that addressed with Blackquill, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I'm betting he's gonna prosecute at least one case in the game and he has to stay nihilistic somehow

Also, I thought GS6/GK3 would get a 2016 release while DGS2 got a 2017 release and so on. That seemed like the best compromise to me with two different teams working on the games. Business-wise, it probably doesn't, though. However, it does seem upsetting that we'll probably have to wait four years for the next GS entry and four years after DGS for the next DGS entry

Well, if Godot was released from prison like many fans hope he was by DD's timeline, he certainly won't be a hero. He'd be a shadow, as he always has been. Still, even if it feels like gratuitous fanservice, letting him show up in the office at one point in a case to give a little insight to the office juniors would be excellent application of fanservice. We just need Nick out of the way, hahaha. In all likelihood, though, he probably won't ever show up again outside of a mention.

Meanwhile, scary ol' Blackquill will be just as relevant as ever. I loved the tales of prison inmates he'd share, and the reality is always more innocent or tragic than people assume it to be. This notion should be expanded upon.

Capcom has always been milking the gut out of their popular franchises, and selling two games at once won't necessarily bring up more hype than just with one new release. Eshiro did mention GK3 was "planned" and maybe in the works, but they won't bring up any news until DGS has been out for a few weeks.

As for localization of DGS, we'll just have to pray they agree it's worth the effort. Chances are still avail, nonetheless, no matter how stupid Meiji LA may sound. (Alternatively, Phoenix's ancestry being Japanese after all)

Godot is not a shadow :(

Anyhow, I would like to hear he is still alive, but to have him show up again they would have to have a damn good reason and I don't think there exists one. And the DD team would just destroy his character anyway. It would be interesting to see how Simon fairs outside of prison as long as it is done well.

Hm, you're right. I suppose I should have said "ninja", a cyborg ninja.

Anyway, it shouldn't only be about how Blacky and Taka are doing as returned members of society. That kind of stuff would be dealt with in a matter of a few sentences. It ought to connect to the case(s) in which it's presented.

Right.

Of course it shouldn't connect to a case, it should just be random cutscenes at every save point showing them doing everyday stuff like grocery-shopping, watching television, going to the library etc.

Simon and Taka going to the library? Well, there is a reading room in the courthouse. I suppose that could tie into some case that involves reading.

That's right. We haven't had a murder case set in a library, have we?

Paper-cut to death? Smacked by a ruler? Stabbed with a pencil? In all fairness, the librarian wouldn't let in dangerous items, so the weapon would have to be hidden.

Oh, I know. Drowned by water bottle.

Phoenix has cross-examined birds before. This should be a cinch... or could this possibly be the start of Apollo's new path (read "descent") in law?

"Mr. Taka! Chirping and screeching won't get us anywhere! I want you to testify!"

And the judge would just either look so disappointed or so angry that he went down that way again. (Bonus if it's Apollo: "Et tu, Mr. Justice?")

It would still be the same. "Balderdash" is all that Taka has to say about it.

-Did you see anything?
-Balderdash.
-What did you hear?
-Balderdash.
-Did the paper look unusually sharp that morning?
-Balderdash.

Regarding DGS, I was actually disappointed that they went through with the idea of legendary ancestor. The thing that makes Phoenix appeal to me is that he was just a nobody who experienced what it felt like when there's nobody at your side. I gotta tell you his classroom trial is one of the best friendship story I've ever read and by making him the descendant of a legendary lawyer just makes it feel like he was destined to be a defense attorney in the first place instead of because his feeling towards Edgeworth for saving him back then and how Edgey needs him for DL-6. This is the plot that makes me hate most cape comics as well. Take Spider-man, he started as a normal boy that got bit by a spider due to an accident and how he got responsibilities shove into his life but he still takes it to his heart and do his absolute best to the world with his power. But then they involved Spider God and how he's a human who dreamed of being a spider or some bullshit. It's just a perverse to his whole philosophy of doing what's right regardless of what he wants.

Yes - I've only had fleeting thoughts about the legendary lawyer-thing (also with some annoyance), but after reading this it bugs me even more. As much as I look forward to DGS, which I really do, I completely agree with you.

Funny how we're using this thread instead of that one, but okay.

I doubt Takumi's plan was to turn Nick into someone following a legendary destiny. I think he really just wanted to make a game with Sherlock Holmes and Natsume Souseki in England. And given it's set all the way back then, he had to jump back to Meiji Japan, since that's where the GS games have always began. Yeah, Capcom somehow needed to pull the game into mainstream by connecting it with Phoenix, otherwise it'd just sound like another spinoff title.

Still, it adds a little more to Phoenix's background, albeit nothing more than a bit of trivia, and doesn't make less of his goals in his first game. It's not to say that his entire family has been in the legal business. It's not to say he was reincarnated from some entity from the past either. They just act similarly... and that stupidity runs in the family.

To be perfectly honest, though, I feel like a lot of the main characters in DGS were essentially ripped from the original GS trilogy. Ryunosuke is almost exactly like Phoenix; Asogi is a mix of Edgeworth and a bit of Diego; Susato is a mix of Maya and Pearl (except she actually has a father); and Barok is a mix of the von Karmas with some Edgeworth. As a mainstream title, it calls back to that trilogy a lot more than DD ever did, and the nostalgia works all the same.

Not that any of it matters; who wouldn't want a game with dorky Sherlock Holmes?

Also, anyone knows how the Japanese version is going to explain how everyone in the english courtroom suddenly know Japanese and even use it just because the MC is a Japanese himself? That's too kind even for game characters. At least for localized version the mother language of Japanifornia is english.

Nah, any Japanese game featuring foreign-looking characters (or maybe even the entire cast) will speak Japanese no problem. Just pretend they're speaking English. Speaking of which, in that trailer when Holmes was first formally introduced, he could not read Japanese and had to ask Ryu to translate.

Granted, there is one point in the first case where Ryu doesn't seem to understand English very well, but at the time, he was taking English with Asogi. It's a given that by the time he and Susato travel to England, they're able to speak it fluently.

It does make me wonder how localization will handle it.

Hey! It's REALLY been a while since i posted here, i wanted to deliver my come back line here:
TBH, i actually play the AA series for the storyline...so if i just watched the synopsis or gameplay video, it'll be fine for me, IMO. I miss the stuff, but since i'm poor, i don't have the capacity to buy me 3DS, let alone Console. But i'm still an AA fan.

Anyway, back to topic title, there are something i wish to be expanded or added on in GS6:
1) Apollo's case with his best friend, Clay:
Clay had a really good design, and handsome one too. It's a disappointment, that he was just a victim. I kind of wish one case involving him as a witness/defendant in-between AJ:AA and DD. It makes their relationship much more deeper.
2) Cases involve...:
Rape, abuse, or Terrorism. I know this is very dark one, but i want to see a case involving these instead of murder. I want to see well darker case, instead of just murder only.
3) More into Apollo and Trucy:
Well again, they never know that they are siblings. I wish GS6 used that story again. I don't really like how Apollo was neglected as a main character in DD, yeah yeah...everyone want Phoenix. But at least try finishing their story first. I don't mind if it sets in sequel, but if it sets in midquel, then they can tie it with Clay.
4) More into Gavin bros:
Klavier is a sane man, Kristoph is insane man.. like why?? What's the reason? If Dahlia had a reason because of her awful parents. Then Kristoph HAD a reason to become like that too right? :yogi: Maybe a case which Klavier becomes a defendant, and finally reveals about Gavin Brothers? They can tie it together with Apollo-Trucy..but i don't know, i wish they cover Gavin ALONG with Apollo-Trucy too. It's already end about Athena afterall, now it's about these 2 mystery, Apollo-Trucy and Gavin brothers.

These 2 last one is mostly because how i think AA4 still had many mystery.

It probably wouldn't have been that way if Takumi had continued it. I think the approach the GK staff took upon entering the development of DD was to analyse the characters Takumi had created and tried to pay homage to it, and as it shows in the writing they ended up overdoing the character traits abit, like Phoenix always talking about how much he bluffs (or everyone else) when it was a thing albeit never quite outspoken so directly in the past, and Apollo's "I'm fine" thing pops up several times in AJ:AA as well, but it was never really anything but a subtle character trait.

In short, they should definitely tone it down, but I think it came as a result of a new writing staff overtaking an already-established canon and trying to analyse the cast to make sure they didn't make it out of character, so they ended up overdoing it.

How about a case where you accuse yourself of murder to buy time? Or at least point out that given the prosecution's scenario, the defendant wasn't the only suspect and it was also possible, you yourself could have killed the victim as well.
