Pierce Nichody theory which requires too many steps, but is closer related to the actual character (because surgeons are *simply* precise, not overly precise on non-important details):
Pierce → As in a surgeon has to pierce the skin to start working.
Nichody → Nichodemus, a biblical figure who met with Jesus, who talked about how Moses made the Nehushtan, a variant on the Rod of Asclepius symbol (symbol of healing and medicine).

...Is it me or is there a lot more references to Jesus in this game? Granted, not so much in the Jap ver, but there is some room to argue for the claim.

I only really remember seeing that in Pees'lubn's design. I don't know what other reference you'd be talking about.

I didn't have any problem with Pierce Nichody's name, partly because I pronounce Pierce as "Peers" and Nichody as "Nikuhdee". Peersnikuhdee, which is like persnickety with a long e.

Nah its De Famme.....defame: to damage the good reputation of someone.

The hell is Pierce Nichody's pun?

With the two "M" it's absolutely not pronounced like Fame, and only one of the character try to "defame" another but both are really "deux femmes".

Spoiler:
No it's not pronounced like Fame but it's spelt almost identically to it to the point the word is clear when read.

Also one of the twins is totally implicit in the defamation of Trucy, I think it still works.

Also if you want to go the pronounciation route then "De" sounds nothing like "Deux" and the meaning is in another language.

I'd argue "De Famme" to "Defame" is a lot less obtuse than "deux femmes."

However both I'd say are still valid and accurate puns, with Deux Femmes being a clever foreshadowing to the teleportation trick.

... I give up. What's the pun in Paul Atishon's name?

Me neither, but I never saw that one as being very obvious either. (Not Pierce Nichody's either, but that's beating a dead horse at this point) With Atishon's I kinda suspected the answer would make me wanna facepalm for not getting it, but it was even worse than I thought. (With people comparing the nature of his pun with Atmey's, the closest I could think of was "Pay Attention", but that felt too far-fetched)

IMO I don't feel like his name even suits him. He's too Japanese to have a half French half English name.

My problem was that I pronounced "Athison" with a similar intonation as "Atkinson", and then you don't really hear the Politician anymore

I did too. Still, it annoys me that I didn't get it even after really trying to figure it out xD

Sorry for being a necro but I had to ask, was I the only one who thought Sprocket was a play on "rocket", and not the actual device entitled "sprocket"?

Nope. Until you said it just now, I didn't know a sprocket was a thing and thought it was just based on rocket. I did think it was a bit strange his name was based on rocket, since it technically has nothing to do with his line of work

My first thought when I saw it was a combination of space and rocket.

In the DLC case for Spirit of Justice, Pierce Nichody comes from the word "persnickety".

Did you read even a single post on the first page?

Added the explanation for the name Nayuta that Yamazaki revealed in this interview: it's simply the name of someone he knew from university. It was intended as nothing more but a placeholder name, but Eshiro liked it so much he didn't allow Yamazaki to change it anymore.

I'm not sure what's more surprising- the fact that someone irl actually had that cool name or the fact that Yamazaki intended it as a mere placeholder. :beef:
