Yeah I think the writers were 'inspired' by the nasty pink butterflies in GS3 and have invented their own fanon about them, kind of like the black psyche locks.

Wow, I would not have come upon this conclusion ever. Butterflies have always been symbols of life and death across many cultures. That Dahlia and Iris also had them was a tribute to that recurring symbolic theme. ...

And not saying this to icer in particular, just saying, but if you think the AAI games & DD are "official fanfiction", you ain't seen nothin' of the manga or the CD audio dramas. They are as fanfictious as you can get without actually stepping into the realm of fanfiction.

Yeah okay. They are pink, that's a connection.
The butterflies aren't necessarily anything to do with them remembering GS3. But why not? They retrod the black psyche locks in GS5? It's like an Easter egg. The writers are at least 'inspired' by previous games when they write them.
OR yes, it could be unconnected.
Like the 6 being 'like a magatama'. And purple. In some ways it's maybe symbolic, in others we are desperate.
6=magatama really seems pushing it, it's a coincidence. Especially since Kurain Kingdom's own magatama things have a different shape.
Purple is a better connection, but they might just have decided it's a generic 'mystical' colour.

Does the game take place only overseas in 'Kurain Kingdom' or also 'back in Phoenix Wright Country'? The Apollo trailer appearance was in Kurain Kingdom's court wasn't it? [?] If the game takes place in multiple locations it's more likely Maya and other chars will turn up, but if everything is in Kurain Kingdom it's a 'convenient' writing reason why some chars are just, not there.

If the manga is that one translated and published in English (6 volumes? NOT the weird 'official' casebooks that were fan mangas), umm yeah I wouldn't consider that 'canon'. It's some light entertainment but it probably contradicts the 'official' games anyway.... I admit I bought it more to support the franchise rather than it being all that exciting.
But in any franchise you just have varied material featuring the characters that can't all be said to exist on some explicit canon timeline.
Like how about the live action movie? And those musical things? it's always for a different target audience, sort of like those games or toys that have cartoon TV shows as a 'feeder'.

As for the anime, it's probably going to contradict the games, so we will have 'anime canon' or whatever. I'm looking forward to the anime anyway... it probably won't be as good as the games but should at least be entertaining. I'm really wondering if it's going to be a more serious attempt to tell the story of the games, or if it's more just a filler case of the day each week....

I think it'll be a different Kurain entirely and Maya won't be in it.

I assume each case will take a couple of episodes to cover (maybe with three or four-part episodes for the finale/ special cases). Assuming that episodes will be about 24 minutes, that seems like quite a short amount of time to fit in a full case (especially if they end up adapting ones from the games). You could probably use one episode for short cases though, kind of like the tutorial cases from the games.

Wow, this brings back memories. I used to be very active on here a few years back, took a break from fandom sometime after AAI, and am re-discovering my love for AA (not that I stopped keeping up with the games, but still).

Anyway, I skimmed through the conversation on the last page and it's actually exactly why I'm here.

In getting back into the fandom I kind of got the desire to start writing again, and once I started drafting ideas of my own I realized just how much is out there that's... impossible to track down? Even some early ff.net stuff can be hard to find because it lacks character tags.

Hey guys, it's been a while!
Say, I'm looking for a really old fic from ff.net for someone, does the following ring a bell for anyone, by any chance?

1) Maya is dead
2) there is some deep convo between Phoenix and Trucy discussing Maya
3) Phoenix refers to Maya as his 'special someone'
4) It's a one-shot

If this reminds you of a particular fic, let me know, please? Thanks!

I recall reading a fic ending with the line "She...was my special someone." in such a context.
"The Things We Lost In the Fire" maybe? It was where the courthouse caught on fire, Maya passed away in the hospital, etc. It was on ff.net but I don't know if it's there anymore.
(I remember I didn't index the tragedy fics (including my own, lol) when I was making that fic list =/)

Do you think we could see an uptick in the number of P/M writers again? I would think being on the verge of a new game (and the anime) would be the best time. Maybe it's just because I've been away for so long, but I feel like there's less than I remember for a fandom that's still going pretty strong.

As for the anime, do you think it's possible it was planned much earlier, but the creators waited until 2016 to keep with game timeline? :yogi:

I dunno, guys. I read somewhere the anime was just going to be a retelling of the trilogy.
Ergo, straying from the source material may not be all that significant.

Hey hey hey everyone!! I come bearing news of the anime! :edgey:
So apparently an ace attorney pachinko thingy is coming out, and licensed panchinko thingies sometimes use footage from anime (even as-of-yet unreleased anime) in their promo videos. Seeing as the clips in here--> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiE6mPFvgcQ are decidedly too good to just have been made only for a few seconds of panchinko advertising, this may be our first time seeing actual cutscenes from the anime!!

There's a particular scene in there which you guys might want to see... and fortunately someone made said scene into a gif! See it here --> http://49.media.tumblr.com/a0c312c4240e ... r2_400.gif

Well at least according to the discussion here, unfortunately since pachinko is the equivalent of casinos/gambling it might well have gotten separate, BETTER animation than the anime. So don't get too excited that it IS the anime :larry:
Despite this it Is an 'official game' and so any P/M 'evidence' is just as valid even if we never get to play/watch the rest of it!

Urghh let's just hope somebody plays one of those things and makes a video of it. The thing is just to die for.

Oh, do you mean the discussion in the comments of the video? The comments that say that the animation style doesn't fit that of previously-seen anime artwork? :edgey: Haha, I strongly suspect that by '(previously seen) anime artwork', they were referring to the fan-made screenies going around sometime last year and got confused; said screenies were made by tumblr artist wonderfulworldofme (she's just so talented)! You can see them here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dn4DECqcL0 (it's a video because redasatomato decided to voice it, alongside a few other people; all of them are awesome) It could pass for the real thing, yeah? Such talented people... (wistful sigh)

You should have a little more faith, Icer! :edgey: I hear they also used cutscenes from the Naruto movie before it was even released to promote a Naruto pachinko (the promo also served to promote the movie itself). And well, Naruto is waay more popular than Ace Attorney, isn't it? If they did that for Naruto, there's no reason why they wouldn't do the same thing Ace Attorney, wouldn't you agree?

Yeah afraid so. :larry:
Sorry to ruin the mood. But I think it's better to be disappointed now and maybe pleasantly surprised later, than be eagerly awaiting this for months and then we find out that's not the TV anime at all and then we won't properly appreciate whatever it actually is...
So reading that thread did kind of ruin my day, but I think it's a smaller disappointment than finding out it's not the anime after all after waiting for months thinking it is. And then if we find out it IS the anime after all it's like even more exciting.

On the plus side at least we know Maya will be in the anime, so it's definitely to be looked forward to in any case :kissy: Oh and there might be merchandise too!
Also Project X Zone 2.

EDIT:
Turns out the anime is starting on April 2, if it's that soon maybe there is more possibility that the video is from the anime? But I'm not getting excited yet.
Edit again: Arghh, look at it! It's the best thing ever! Too bad they couldn't have an actual HD 'remake' of the original games including THOSE cutscenes! :nixiesob:

*bump*
Yeah, according to the news on CR they only just started recording the anime voices, so the scenes from the pachinko probably aren't from the anime after all. :larry: Still looking forward to the anime though.

But before that there's this:
'The broadcast (Mar 6) will reveal the game's release date, as well as promises "that" unannounced character will be shown off.'

So this means either they're putting us out of our misery, or it's someone else like Apollo's father (the green guy in the poster?) or even someone we already know will cameo like Trucy (have we seen any actual screenshots of her yet?).

Not long to wait thankfully.

It's pretty ambiguous, actually. The anime prologue (the one with the WAA attorneys admiring cherry blossoms) may suggest it since Athena looks forward to seeing Maya come over again, but she doesn't say anything outright. Pearl's influence is strong with these people.

But the face he makes when she asks about how Maya's ready to come back home? That was genuine delight.

Yay! I've only waited 8+ years for this!
See patience pays off, never give up on your OTP :kissy:

I think Pearl is only in the preorder episodes but it's not confirmed either way. But since she was in GS5 supposedly she isn't in Kurain Country, although she could turn up back 'home' with Apollo etc.

Regardless this is pretty much a best case scenario. It was hard to imagine having another game without a cameo (especially with a magical spirit country) but it could have been a small one at the end, but no she's back as a main and Phoenix's partner in court. It looks like they're going to try and ret-con a semi-reasonable explanation why she wasn't in the last 2 games. At least being in some Kurain country that didn't exist before is more believable than being told she was just too busy in Kurain Village only 2 hours away for the last 3 years. Although it still doesn't explain where she was when Phoenix was disbarred.

But after all this 'training' I really hope Maya gets some amazing new power and/or game mechanic.
