My biggest pet peeve is when people say clay-vee-er.
Klavier - kla-VEER. It's German. There is an actual way to pronounce this, like it or not XDD

Lamiroir - I try to say la-MEER-wahr, but I usually end up saying LAM-uh-rawr. I'm from Texas D:
Gavin - GAV-in.
Machi Tobaye - ;oasijf;lkawejfl
Daryan - DARE-ee-uhn
Crescend - cre-SHEND, like crescendo.

I think I posted this in a different thread a while back, but you can listen to the pronunciation of 'Klavier' here. Just click the little audio icon next to the entry. :3

:odoroki: = a-pol-lo YOOS-tis. Clearly, that's the only correct way of pronouncing it. Even :Maki: knows that.
Kidding, of course. I just love Machi's adorable broken English.

So, focusing only on the confusing ones...:

:kyouya: I've been calling him "kla-vee-ERR," so that the last part rhymes with "Herr." :-P I thought I was onto something with that. Darn. It's going to take me a while to get used to "kla-VEER."

:gipsy: ...Honestly, there was a point at which I didn't even bother. I was like, "Yeah, I'm about to cross-examine Lami-whatever. That singer lady." But then I started making an effort, although I never could stick with one pronunciation consistently: "lah-meer-WAH"? "lah-mee-WAHR"? "lah-mee-ROAR"? "lah-mee-roh-ah" (going by the Japanese ラミロア)? Now I'm fairly decided upon something close the first one.... "lah-mee-rwah"... keeping the word "mirror" in mind... yeah... or something...

:agent-Smith: Ma-chi To-ba-ye. It looked like something that could have come straight from the Japanese, so I pronounced it just how it looked (マチ•トバイェ). Then I see that the ACTUAL Japanese version is spelled nothing like that (マキ•トバーユ). :nick-sweat: So now I say "MAH-kee toh-BAI." Hope that's better... although it could also be "TOE-buy," with the emphasis on the first syllable... :meekins:

:varanbaran: "Zak" and "Valant" definitely rhyme with "knack" and "talent" (I thought the line in the game that pointed that out was so clever -- I never would've figured out that wordplay myself -- and I appreciated its easy help with the pronunciation.) As for the troupe, though, that's the real problem... During my playthrough of the game, I thought of the troupe as "gruh-MAHR-ee" ... But then I saw that it's based on an actual word that's supposed to be pronounced "GRAM-mer-ee" (like -- this sentence has a lot of "grammar"; it's very grammary :moe-laugh:).
...And I WILL pronounce it that way now. I truly do want to learn to pronounce everyone's name accurately -- even if AJ seems to be trying, more than any other AA game, to purposely make everyone's names ridiculously unpronounceable. :wellington-crazy:

um, i'll just do the ones i don't think are so obvious~

klavier - i pronounced it klay-vee-uh/klah-vee-ehr. yeah, i know it's wrong, but i'm kind of used to it... ._.
machi tobaye - ...i kind of gave up on keeping one pronounciation to his first name, but i usually pronounce it ma-chee...yeah. and toh-bay.
lamiroir - lam-ee-wahr. probably not how it's meant to be pronounced, but i'm used to french pronounciation, so...
gramarye - gram-arr-ey-eh/gram-ahr-ee, depending on who i'm referring to
magnifi - mag-ni-fee.

actually, i'll just do (sort-of) everyone.

kristoph - kris-tof
trucy - true-cee
ema - emma
thalassa - th-lassa
vera - vee-ruh
misham - mish-ham
drew - droo
daryan - dar-ey-an
crescend - cresh-end (like crescendo.)
apollo - ah-po-lo (although, when that name's refering to the god, i pronounce it ah-paul-oh. strange.)
pal meraktis - paul (don't know why...) meh-rack-tise (like, kind of rhyming with the name reece)
eldoon - el-doon.
romain letrouse - roh-mayne leh-toouse
valant - vel-int. or, alternatively, valiant, if i can't be bothered. ^^;
olga orly - ol-guh or-lee, but if i'm referring to her as just orly, then oh-really?
wocky kitaki - woh-kee kit-ah-kee
alita tiala - ah-lee-tuh tee-uh-luh

Aside from the Emma vs. Eema issue, the only name I couldn't figure out how to pronounce was Machi Tobaye. I sort of figured out how to pronounce it once I realized that it was a pun on "much to buy." (Similarly, I couldn't figure out how the heck to pronounce Rhoda Teneiro from AAI until I read that it was supposed to sound like "Rio de Janeiro. )

:violin: Kris-tof Gay-vin. Not a joke on his possible homosexuality, it's just the way I pronounce it.
:snap: Kla-vee-r Gay-vin. Ditto. His and Kristoph's name are easy for me, being german and all.
The Band: Gay-vin-ers. I didn't get the pun until I read it was supposed to be a take on "Gewinners".
:Brush-Sniff: Spa-k Brush-el. The R tends to disappear or transform into an L for me.
:Noodle-Salute: El-doon.
:haha: Dare-e-an Cre-cend.
:takita: Woh-ki Kita-ki. I read his name was a pun on Walkey Takey, but I just can't understand how you can pronounce his name like that, if his last name is so clearly of japanese pronounciation.

"Herr" is pronounced similar to "hair" (but keep in mind not to roll the r at the end)
"Fräulein" is pronounced "Froi-line" (with an oi like in join)
I don't know how to describe the pronunciation of "Achtung" in English as I don't think something similar to the "ch" sound exists in English, but the second syllable is pronounced as "toong".

Not to bring this up again, but maybe you can help here... I never ever understood why the "ah" sound (like in Vera and Alita) is written as "uh" in English, because to me, the two are not alike at all. Or at least, not alike enough to be phonetic equivalents.
To me, "uh" sounds like some sort of exclamation of hesitation, doubt or insecurity like here. Just imagine the names ending with that sound. Veruh... Uh...lituh... It's just not close to "ah".

For the longest time I misread Alita Tiala as Atila Taila.

Also, since Valant is an alliteration overlord,I pronounced Gramarye as 'Grammar eye'. But grammarie works too I suppose.

Either I don't understand anymore what an alliteration is anymore, or I just don't understand what you mean, or you used the word alliteration incorrectly here...
Because as far as I am aware, there's no alliteration in either Valant "Grammar eye" nor Valant "Grammarie".

Alliteration is a poetic thing, where similar syllables are spelt out in series. Like that.

It's not necessarily a poetic thing but a literary device (there's a difference!) and it's where the consonants on the first syllable (I think?) are the same or similar. "Barry bakes berry beignets"
That's how I know an alliteration, anyway
