That said, the line that's making the rounds across the net suffers from an acute case of Engrish. The good folks here at CR have offered a better translation, which actually tells us more about what the 2Chan author meant to say.

The 2Channer does not cite who. But we've known for two years now that Eshiro (The Ace Attorney Investigations Producer) offered his help in Gyakuten Saiban 5. However, we did not learn if his offer was accepted. Shuu Takumi is responsible for the story behind Ace Attorneys 1, 2, 3, 4, Ghost Trick, and the upcoming Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. Eshiro was behind both Edgeworth games.
Right now, we know Takumi is involved with Level-5 in the upcoming Vs title, but CR has heard nothing regarding what Eshiro is up to these days, since the release of the Japan only Ace Attorney Investigations 2.
We must reiterate that we don't know the validity of the 2chan rumor. While there is nothing in the rumor that contradicts anything we currently know about GS5 or current activities at Capcom, the rumor has been reported wrong regarding other items posted with the GS5 rumor, specifically the Monster Hunter rumor regarding online play.
With that said, it IS September, Tokyo Game Show is just over a week away, and the pre-TGS issue Famitisu hasn't come out yet. Pre-TGS Famitisu has been the traditional first official word for new Ace Attorney games. So, even if the 2chan poster is also wrong about GS5, it wouldn't be out of place to hear more major Ace Attorney news in the coming days.
... Speaking of GS5. Court-Records.net is STILL hosting the Pick your Prosecutor Contest. The contest has been running just shy of 5 years now. So here's our problem. Even if someone happens to have picked the most accurate description of the next prosecutor rival, they may have left the CR community in that time, thus unqualified to receive whatever prize they may have won. So there's no harm in getting some last minute entries in.
Just remember, the moment we learn who the prosecutor is, the contest thread will be locked, and any post edited after the discovery date will be disqualified.

If the whole GS5 rumor is true then does that mean Takumi is coming back to developing AA while still working on PL Vs AA? or is he just giving the okay, and letting the AAI team do it?
Well who knows, it may be a bit too premature to talk about the plot at this point but I hope they tie in some events from AAI into the main series and not just ignore it.

I'm not going to debate the MHP3G topic, mostly because I don't know the first thing about MH or its marketing state. But I will say, the timing would be extremely convenient given past history.
FACTS:
- Traditionally, new AA games have been announced via Famitisu just prior to TGS.
- TGS is on the 16th.
- Nintendo's conference is on the 13th.
- Capcom reportedly had a hand in designing the 3DS dongle.
- Takumi is working on Layton Vs; We don't know how much of his team is with him, or what Jiro's team is working. (Not to mention that movie project)
CONJECTURE:
- The 3DS is a flop because the 'best' games for the 3DS are remakes. Nintendo NEEDS to pump upcoming 3DS games at the conference, regardless if they use the add-on or not.
- Because Capcom had a hand in designing the dongle, it's not unreasonable for them in particular to have a showcase of what's new in the pipeline. (Deciding which to showcase, however, at TGS and which at Nintendo first is up in the air.)
- 'If' Capcom is showing off titles at the Nintendo conference, on top of the convenient timing with TGS, GS5 would have a semi-decent shot at being revealed there, being a franchise that's been traditionally on Nintendo handhelds.
- It may also be within Capcom's interest to showcase Layton Vs, and GS5 at different venues. But, Level-5 is the wildcard in that scenario.
Predictions for the Nintendo Conference
- 'Official' details on GBA on 3DS's Virtual Console, perhaps dates for the Ambassador program. (Perhaps trickling through the rest of the year?)
- Kid Icarus takes advantage of the new dongle (It was hinted that they weren't leaving Lefties in the dust)
- 3DS Pocket/Lite in 2012
- Games are showcased, beyond Kid Icarus

Holy cow, Eshiro DID say he wanted to do GS5 and had asked GS producer Matsukawa about it...
This could be huge. What if GK3 and GS5 end up being the same game, a huge, series-ending game where Phoenix, Edgeworth and Apollo's stories collide!? Jesus Christ I'm dreaming too much, this is not good for me. There isn't even a reason to be hyped about...

We aren't complaining about local play at all. We're saying that had they confirmed online play for it, it would lend credence to the GS5 rumor which was in the batch stating MHP3G would have online play.

How do you know that? I'm not disagreeing, but even as I translate it, it's very vague. Also, I'm not sure how the word "scenario" refers to writers. Nothing is said about the writers, and we don't have context other than that sentence to go off of.

The idea of a "person from Gyakuten Kenji" to me means that it's a character who was designed specifically for GK rather than someone who was from the original series. In that regard, probably Kay or Lang will be popping up. If it's Kay then it's a shoe in Edgeworth will be there as well. Maybe it's not too late to give up on the dream of Phoenix and Maya squaring off against Edgeworth and Kay.
I suppose time will tell how based this is.

It's just the most natural way to read the (admittedly very short) original Japanese source. Just add in a による (シナリオは逆転検事の人[による]). Reading those lines as 'a scenario featuring someone from GK' would require a somewhat unnatural reading of the original Japanese IMHO. But of course, the source is very short, so it might refer to that, but it would be a rather strange way to say it.

I can definitely see this happening.
Assuming GS5 is picking off straight from the Apollo storyline, we already know the established main characters meaning this "person from Gyakuten Kenji" has to be the rival right? I mean it's almost traditional that we're given a small hint or an out front reveal to the new rival character in a sequel were we already know the main characters.
It's probably just me being a Kay fanboy, but I'd say she fits the bill the most, father was a prosecutor she would be at the rightful age, gives a reason for Edgeworth's appearance as a sort of mentor figure. But hey, that's just wishful thinking on my part. However either she's the rival or not, I'd still really love to see both of these worlds collide, and tie both games together, versus just flat out ignore the GK events. Even if the that small tidbit is regarding the writers I'm still for the idea, and it makes it much more probable if the writers from GK are given full reign.
