Oh yes. I'll leave you to enjoy the film review for yourself, but here's the part we're interested in:

Quote:
Interestingly, the subtitles used names from the Western versions of the games, while the Japanese soundtrack used the original Japanese names. During the Q&A after the film, Miike revealed that there are plans for a worldwide release of "Ace Attorney", with each region getting dubs and subs using the character names from the Phoenix Wright games released in that region.
A bold statement but who knows: it might work... I was surprised at how many people here in The Netherlands turned out to be a fan of these games.

And with that one paragraph, hope was ignited. It helps that the movie is apparently damn good, too.
Does we even do these things anymore?

Hey guys, PLvsAA is getting animation by one of the best studios in Japan and we're remaking the Phoenix saga games in HD. Oh also Gyakuten Saiban 5 is happening you guys, here's a logo. Oh yeah, the GS movie is awesome. And before we forget, Miike-san just called, he says it's coming out near you.

P.D.: Heaven is real, and it's made entirely of neverending ice cream.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa WHOA! That's awesome.

.....

Quote:
But the script is a bit more ambitious than that. Those first small cases open a can of worms which doesn't get closed until the end of the fifth trial, and therefore the producers (and Capcom) decided that the film should cover all five trials.

:holdit:

All five? You mean... the entire game, including 1-5? Either Capcom knows how to keep secrets sometimes or this writer is misremembering. 1-5 has no relation to the 1-2 or 1-4, and both are related to DL-6 and Edgeworth, which is the feature of this movie. But if what this review says is true, that means SL-9 and Ema? 2 hours and 15 minutes sound like it can cover the entire game, but if this means Rise from the Ashes is a part of this movie, then... hell, I'll take it. But that probably means 1-5 will be reduced drastically in order to keep it Edgeworth-centric.

I was going to watch it in Japanese anyway, for practise, since my Japanese needs DIRE practise, but getting several dubs for comparision? Good stuff! ^^

If there's a German dub, it's likely gonna suck but, oh well, at least I can annoy my friends with voice clips of German!Maya then. XD

Basically it sums up pretty much what Takashi Miike said, but I remember him saying also something amidst the lines of "editing what was popular in the game in that country". Now I'm not too sure about this, cause it's been a few days and I was too excited because Miike was answering my question when I him if the world premiere at an international film festival alongsided with English subs meant it would be released worldwide so that all AA fans could enjoy it :)

M-My word.....this is truly happening..

So we're going to get English dubbing on the Phoenix Wright film. NNNYAAAHHH! THIS MONTH IS MADE OF AWESOME!

Now speculate who gets what voices?

Oh god Eshiro was right there were a whole range of plans to make us AA fans happy... :acro:

Additionally the review describes the court-room gameplay as like a dating sim...
Dunno if I'd say that's quite accurate :yuusaku:

Though it's good to hear it went down well even if the press release hated it.

Let's see, other questions that were asked:
Q: Will there be sequals? (probably asked because of the post-credits scene)
A: Maybe, but they won't be done by Takashi Miike. He wanted to experiment with this type of film and was satisfied with the result and won't do another one.

Q: Why did he participate in the project?
A: He was interested in doing a film adaptation of a game. It was a sort of experiment for him to see how it would work out(he mentions other factors, but I'm not too sure about them)

Q: Why was the crowd in the courtroom dressed up extravagant? (I'm not sure if you can see this in the trailer, but the courtroom crowd is dressed OTT Japanese street fashion)
A: Because that's how kids in Japan dress themselves now.

There was a question about how difficult it was for him to adapt the game to the movie. I remember only fragments of it because it was a long answer, but he did say something about bringing the emotion to the movie cause there was lack of in the game? (my friend recorded some of the Q&A, I'll ask him whether or not he can share some of it)
... and the rest were more related to Takashi Miike's work and style (like what his new project would be and such). If anyone is interested I could write up a review of the film? (I left some first impressions on the FB fan page of AA film when I was in the trainride back home from the festival)

The movie "Ace Attorney" is based on the first five court cases from the long-running series of Capcom videogames starring attorney Phoenix Wright.

I also watched the movie, but the reviewer is wrong about the "first five court cases" part since "Rise from the Ashes" doesn't appear in the movie. Unless the reviewer meant "based on the first five court cases" is also including references, since there are some references to the fifth case (IMO)
Spoiler:
- At one point in the court, somebody starts yelling through a megaphone (like Mike Meekins :megaphone: )in one scene
- The design of the Blue Badger is the one showed in Rise of Ashes.

short summary of time spent on cases during the movie:

Spoiler:
beginning:
- a flashback of the event where Misty Fey is channeling Gregory Edgeworth
- little bits of First Turnabout and Turnabout Samurai, which introduce Phoenix, Edgeworth and Mia.

Then the real movie starts (IMO)with the end of First Turnabout, where Larry gives the Thinker clock to Mia

- Then the rest of the movie (which is the majority) is based on the cases Turnabout Sisters , Turnabout Goodbyes and DL-6.

If you're a fan of the game you should enjoy the movie. Though based on the reactions of the audience during the movie, people who haven't played the game enjoyed it too =P

Yeah it was shown Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the International Film Festival Rotterdam(IFFR) in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. (I went sunday)The movie is also there next Wednesday but the tickets for Ace Attorney are already sold out for that day(or at least the tickets for online sales are)

The movie also plays on 4 and 5 february in Groningen (province in the Netherlands)

I haven't even been keeping up with the movie. It sorta rolled off my shoulder (unlike most Ace Attorney-related things).

But I did do some research on it.

I also kinda forgot about the movie recently, but last week I somehow ended up watching trailers of the movie.
Then the next day my sister says the movie was going to be in Rotterdam so... we went to see it in the weekend =P The movie was definitely worth watching.

Ah! Looks like Capcom is finally getting their sh*t together after the AAI fiasco (AAI2 not localised, and AAI only in English).
I really wasn't expecting Capcom to actually go and release the film worldwide, and so kudos to them!
I definitely was going to get the movie... you know where... I probably will nonetheless, but I'm definitely buying a copy when the movie's released outside Japan (any version that got English subtitles, since this is the language I played the games in).

Thanks Capcom :phoenix:
