Oh, come on. Everyone wants to know when this cross over is coming out, but Level-5 x Capcom have been suspiciously mum on a date other then 2012. But we can do better then that. Here's a recap of events so far.
So what does this mean going forward? Professor Layton is as close to a Mario as Level-5 gets. Assuming there's going to be a Level-5 World/Vision event this year (And if tradition holds, we won't learn about the October event until August) I would find it highly suspect if Layton's gameplay was not premiered then, if not teased at Tokyo GameShow. Yes, it's a long time until then, but remember we didn't see much focus on Phoenix and his gameplay until leading up to Ace Attorney's anniversary event. It would be extremely fair for Layton to be shown off at a time that's convenient for Level-5.
So, here's the expected turn of events this year.
- Level-5's event is announced in August
- TGS is September 20-23rd
- Level-5 Event in October - Focusing on Layton gameplay
So great, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney is coming out in Japan in October!
Nope. Does it make sense to end marketing a collaborative game with focus on just one character and his gameplay? Nah, the Level-5 event green lights the earliest they can start marketing both franchises together again. Could that mean November?
On the far end of the scale assuming Layton vs Ace Attorney is still on track for a 2012 release date; The last games Capcom and Level-5 both released for the 3DS in in 2011 were early-mid December, Monster Hunter and Inazuma 11. December 10th and 15th respectively. So Mid December is a reasonable last ditch effort.
Realistically, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney is looking at a late Fall / Holiday release date.
As for in English? Who knows. E3 starts June 5th in two months. We could learn something then, or maybe nothing until after the Japanese release. In either case, expect a lot of nothing for the time being.
