But it does prove that he keeps up with some of them, seeing as Gumshoe and Hotti (though I wouldn't call him a friend) cameo'd, as well as Ema. You have to understand it's been seven years, many things could have happened: Edgeworth and Franziska prosecuting overseas, Gumshoe either too busy after being promoted or retired/fired, Maya and Pearls running Kurain (which has to be pretty time-consuming), etc.

Um, the pics just look like "Find the 10 differences". Okay, that guy might be Larry, but also might be the guy on the stairs on the left, who's also wearing an orange jacket, huh?
However, it's kinda suspicious seeing a painter who looks like Laurice Deauxnim on the same spot "Larry" was.
Oh, and I don't think that chick is Iris, she doesn't look like her. She might be some of his unknown girlfriends.

Now that you mention it, having
return isn't such a bad idea. Having her as a defendant could make for a very humorous case...I'd also like to see Kay Faraday in GS5. It would be interesting to see how she's aged over the past seven years, plus I wanna see how she would interact with Phoenix, Trucy, Apollo, and company...

These two in the starring roles, for sure. Because I love this guy, and his interactions with Apollo and Trucy. The father-daughter stuff is especially cute/sweet/amsuing. Yeah, he probably won't be the rival prosecutor again, even if GS5 does turn out to be an Apollo game. But I do want to see him return. I think it'd be interesting, especially after all the torment GS4 put him through. Edgeworth returned at some point for all of Nick's games, after all. So I guess I want Klavier to continue being the Edgeworth to Apollo's Phoenix... in the screentime sense, since their dynamic is way different than Edgeworth-Phoenix's.I want Ema to be the detective again. I want her to have some interactions with Hobohodo on-screen, and I also want to know what Lana's up to. So it'd be pretty awesome if Lana appears, especially if she's a star witness or the defendant
I do want to see Kay in GS5.. because her fate is one of the most open-ended, since her thing was all about being the new Yatagarasu, which I think is a childish fantasy she needs to abandon (didn't she somewhat let it go at the end of GK2? I dunno.) So I want to see what she's up to, where she is now. I've seen somebody posting here (Neni, I think?) about wanting Kay to be the next rival prosecutor. I really, really like that idea, especially if Edgeworth mentors her, although they always create a brand-new character to fill the role of rival. Still, Apollo vs Kay would be amazing.
Honestly, I don't want too many old PW characters to appear in GS5, if it does turn out to be an AJ game. I kind of want Wocky to come back again, maybe filling the role of Larry or Lotta...or something. Although I feel like Spark might be the new Lotta. I dunno. I really, really want to see Maya again. And I kind of want Edgeworth, but I don't know... I'm not as curious about him as I am about Lana, Kay, and Maya. But Edgeworth has the largest chance of reappearing, I think, being a prosecutor and all. I feel like he might pull his final-case-comeback thing. Although I'd probably prefer it if Klavier does that instead of him.
Oh yeah. I want Thalassa to sort her crap out. Every time a long-lost parent returns, they end up getting killed before revealing their identity to their kid(s). Hm...

Edgeworth, for sure, and Franziska! I've always had a fondness for Franziska, especially with regards to her relationships with Edgeworth and Von Karma. She was still pretty young in the GS1-3, so I'd love to see what eight years has been like, and what kind of person she is now.

Likewise, there are also some characters I don't want to see return, not because I don't like them, but because I think their pressence would detract from the game's story.
Maya and Pearl: I know, I know. It's sad that we never hear anything from them again, and yes, I'm curious too what happened to them. But with this new partner of Phoenix, involving Maya would create unfortunate side-effects, which skating around would only serve to subtract from the main story.
Involving Pearl without Maya would be equaly unwise, for... obvious reasons.
Godot, Kristoph, or any other of the series' old villains: Seriously, these guys are done. They made for great characters (some of them, at least), but they have served their purpose. The only possible exception I can think of would be Red White (who I hate as a character), and only to add some weight to Mia's murder case; because, seriously, that was dealt with way to anticlimacticly.
Edgeworth: Not so sure about this guy. On the one hand, yes, he's inseparably connected to Phoenix, but on the other hand, his story is pretty much finnished. He learned the whole truth about his father's murder case, and even got to live out his dream of being a defence attorney for one day.
In the end, I think his, and really any of these characters' appearence should come down to one thing, as Beautiful_Blue put it:

It's hard to imagine Phoenix in a tough situation where he's about to lose and not get help from Mia. However, they will likely reduce her to a voice in his head. They don't seem to like re-introducing old characters (the 'blue suit guy' thing) and Mia will likely be cut along with Maya and Pearl.

The fact that he's a better character is because he has had more time to work out a character. I get the "why break tradition" part, and even the "She's awesome" part, but I don't know if she should be involved that easily. She was a giant part of Phoenix's life, so she should get an equall treatment in the plot, should she be in it.Personaly, I wouldn't be surprised if the game didn't feature any "past generation" characters at all. And even if we are going to get them, the chances are pretty slim that we'll be seeing both Edgeworth and Maya in one game. There just isn't enough room on a cartridge for that.

As I said in another topic, they plan to have past characters in this game. I doubt that Edgeworth and Maya will be in it regardless.
