I think this one speaks for itself!
The competition for second place in the fic category was extremely close!
And the art category needs a little explanation
Early on in the voting, Wooster and I noticed that a particular entry jumped from 6th place to 1st in the span of a few hours. At the time, Sergei and Tomoko were duking it out for 1st and we suspected something fishy. Some sluething on Wooster's part uncovered that someone on twitter had linked to the voting page saying "vote for this entry." In past years, I've had in the rules that doing so would result in disqualification (that's why we have a bumper page). This year, I neglected to word it that strongly, so while no one necessarily broke any rules, Wooster and I still felt that it wasn't in the spirit of the competition to let such an entry take first (given the number of lovely entries this year). But, because it happened so early on that it's impossible to say if this entry would have placed at all, it didn't seem fair to penalize it out of competition entirely. Thus, the results as we announced.
Next year we might have to adust our rules and voting process, or maybe just accept that open votes will always be influenced by all manner of things, but in the end, I'm very pleased with the entries we got this year and I'm looking forward to another fun contest in 2013.

How much sway do the judges' votes have? The more they count for, the more they can help counterbalance friend-voting.
