Looks good. Too bad it will never come out of Japan. I hope that the game will, though. Not that I own a 3DS to play it anyways. :sadshoe:

Let's hope the upcoming 3DS Nintendo Direct announces this for us! Otherwise it'll be E3...

Have you read that Nintendo is supporting Japan only 3DS games for worldwide release?

Ah, yes. I forgot about that. Hopefully we'll see this and Time Travelers as localized. There are probably a bunch of other Japanese games that I can't think of off the top of my head as well.

If anyone wants to pre-order the art book, CDJapan currently has some limited pre-order slots left. Alternatively, Mangaoh also has the book up for pre-order as well. Both ship internationally with the difference being that CDJapan has cheaper shipping options while Mangaoh only has EMS shipping available for customers from overseas.

I... admit that I have never bought from Mangaoh before, so I can't say much about them, but I've heard they're pretty reliable if you're looking for products that are not being carried by or unavailable for other shopping sites.

Very nice cover, I get some very serious Ace Attorney vibes from it.

Nah, there's virtually zero chance of Time Travellers coming out of Japan. The game tanked horribly (like, really awful... 10 000 copies together for 3DS and Vite versions during 1st week, and PSP version didn't even chart at all), and it's not a genre popular overseas (it's more of an interactive movie than an actual visual novel like 999 and VLR). So that'd mean high localisation cost (even if they don't go with English dub), so... don't see that happening.

Then again, it's Level-5 we're talking about, not Capcom. I'd love to play Time Travellers :sadshoe:

I don't know why the interactive movie genre kinda died here in North America. You never see it anymore, even on the PC where the majority of them were on. Anyone remember the X-Files "Game" for the PC with the entire cast/soundstage/scriptwriters? It was awesome!

Can someone fill me in on exactly what this Nintendo localization news is? Is it somehow different than how localization has worked before?
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I don't think localizing Time Travelers is as impossible as you may think. Bringing games like Ace Attorney, 999, and Professor Layton out of Japan were all each big risks, but they all paid off in the end. None of these games really had that much advertising either, being spread mostly through word of mouth.

Level 5 is also known for producing big budget games and also taking the time to go through extensive localizations. Look at Ni no Kuni and its localization of tons of text. They also hire English voice actors that actually care about their performances, Professor Layton being a good example.

It may take a long time, but it's certainly possible that we will see it someday. Now, something like 428: In a Blockaded Shibuya may never see the light of day outside of Japan

That art style looks incredible! Capcom and Level-5 always has great art, so I bet this artbook is going to be a great steal! I wonder, do you think they'll have the alternate art styles for the Ace Attorney crew and Layton crew in there? You know, where Phoenix and Maya look very Laytony and the Professor and Luke look more like the Ace Attorney style? That'd make the book worth buying to me.

Nintendo is helping third parties localize their 3DS games and distribute them the way they help Level-5 with Professor Layton.

I saw this post a few days ago, and wow that cover looks amazing. I really want this game! I soooo hope it gets translated and Time Travellers too! It's such a shame the 3DS is region locked, I would have got them in Japanese. :sadshoe:

They left out the prologue-exclusive characters on the cover... but I'm pretty sure there'll be a page on him somewhere - like an entire page on him and his early designs.

I hope this comes to America along with the localization. We normally don't get much of the Professor Layton stuff other than the games/movies and occasional key chains. Also hope the Miracle Mask Plus edition comes here but it most likely won't.:larry:

Don't be silly. Ace Attorney and Professor Layton always have compelling stories. That's why they're so popular. You're right about the art though. It's beautiful.

I'm not so sure how to feel about it...It looks amazing but it will mean that I have to wait for a localization of the game before I can try to get it since it must contain a heck ton of spoilers. At least the prices might go down by the time I get a chance to do so... :Hoboright:

Same reason Knightguy looks like Klavier; the same character designer as Rise from the Ashes and Apollo Justice :)

Well, looks like they created a Dark version of Pheonix, but decided NOT to include him...

Image

Hmm... I know the whole 'dark version of an existing character' is kinda cliché and overused, but I really dig that Dark Phoenix design!
