Just out of curiosity, what were the other Ace Attorney games' scores?

I noticed each review has 4 different scores on it. I haven't seen any Famitsu reviews before so could someone tell me are those numbers 4 different reviews by 4 different people (as in "Jim gave it a 10, Claire gave it a 7") or is it broken up into categories (as in "Graphics get a 9, Story gets a 7")?
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Wow that's incredible, 37/40?!

This is a sign of good things to come, can't wait for this game now, glad i'm getting the Japanese Limited Edition!

@ADA It's 4 different people, so for 2 to give 10's and one 9, that's awesome

Four reviewers each offer their own score out of 10, which you then add together for a total out of 40. In this case GS5 got a 37/40, which is damn good. Here's more info if you're interested.

Basically, no other Ace Attorney game has gotten a higher score on Famitsu? That's pretty amazing.

For the record, PLvsAA got 9/9/9/8, for a total of 35.

Good to see the high score, though these days a Famitsu score ain't what it used to be. Hopefully we'll get some of the other DD info that's supposed to be in this issue as well soon.

Do you mean they overrate games nowadays or give high scores too often?

A bit of both? They used to be very reticent with the higher scores, but in years past they've gotten more and more common.

well its a big jump compared to the old AA so would make sense that it would be the best game in the series from the trailer everything looks and moves way more fluently :minuki:

I don't know if I can trust a publication that rates AA4 higher than GK2... haha... Uhh, anyways, I'm a little curious to hear more of what 8+9 thought of the game.

Each man/woman to their own. I can't fairly judge GK2 though as there isn't an English version.

I don't remember this competition being up on the site before, but it probably was...

http://www.capcom.co.jp/gyakutensaiban/5/taiken_campaign.html

I'm guessing it's saying play the online demo, tweet with the hashtag #Gyakuten5 to @Gyakuten_capcom.

Also a guess, but i think the closing time is 10am (JST) on 25th of July. Probably for Japanese residents only (well, most likely). At least JapaneseGIRL can take part!

Ever since Final Fantasy XIII-2 got a 40/40, I've read their ratings with one eyebrow raised. :yuusaku:

That's a cool T-shirt, though I could do without the text. Not that it matters since I'm probably not eligible to enter haha.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was awful...no sense of pacing, horrible character consistency, tedious battle system, etc.

So the fact that it got a perfect score leaves me more than a little wary.

That said...if DD has gotten higher ratings than all of the other AA games...at the very least, it's a sign that DD should be on par with the rest of the series. Which would make for an amazing game, still.

I figured as much well in all honesty final fantasy series was never my cup of tea. Hopefully they dont botch the ratings for DD like they did for Final Fantasy XIII-2

I heard rumours that Famitsu sometimes gives favourable reviews for games published/developed by "friends" and certain big-name companies. Ace Attorney is pretty big in Japan, but not Square "big". Despite what I've said, I think that their review of DD is probably pretty fair.

Those authors could have also simply liked FF XIII-2. I have no opinion on the matter since I've never played it (still working on FFXIII) but I'm sure there were some gamers who it appealed to. I think you have to factor in the author's personal preferences. I've seen games that in my opinion are awful and boring given 10 out of 10s by authors who will then go and give a just-as-glowing review for a game I really like. So I think DD probably deserves the score it got.

And it is a very nice score. One of the big worries was that it was going to come out and it wasn't actually any good. And I'm sure the review takes the plot into account since the game is so plot-heavy, so the story must be pretty decent.

Hopefully when Famitsu hits the newstands someone will post a translation of the full article.

A very fair point, but it still doesn't sit well with me because the fan reaction was quite negative. Regardless, my point is still that I believe Famitsu is at least giving Gyakuten Saiban 5 a fair review. I think we can all look forward to the game's release. :-)

If someone has the full article, I'd be willing to translate it. Though JapaneseGIRL will probably be on top of that sort of stuff.

^There's probably not much too add though. Famitsu reviews are very short. Two or three sentences per reviewer. And even then, the reviewers have a tendency to say the same ^_~

Well this is a good sign at least.

Granted, my faith in video game reviews has been permanently shattered by people actually giving Dragon Age 2 anything over a 3...

There are four reviewers, who each give a (total) score (from 1 to 10). So 10/10/10/10 = 40(/40) would be the maximum.

EDIT: One of the reviewers who gave the game a perfect score had some other points on the GS5 introduction page. I quickly translated these as well. This information was available on hoso_boso's blog.

Spoiler:
・When I first heard it was in 3D, I was admittedly worried, but playing the game, it feels perfectly natural.
・One thing that "surprised" me was Athena's facial expressions. She makes some really strange faces for a heroine, which made me further like her character.
・Finding the contradictory feelings in the Mood Matrix gets quite difficult in the latter half of the game.
・Despite being a part of a series, character backgrounds are explained well so anyone can jump into this series with this game.
・Please experience the big Turnabout at the end of the game!

Translated some bullet points (from hoso_boso's blog) of the cross-review in Famitsu:

Spoiler:
・Athena's Mood Matrix didn't feel out of place.
・The added features makes it easier to play the game.
・The game's climax/finale is very surprising/dramatic. Just as you would expect from the series' best game!
・Music is good.
(Comments from the two 10 reviews)

・Moves along at a good pace and the shifting circumstances in court are very nerve-wracking and really draws you in.
・Everything in the game feels improved.
・The 3D anime's presentation is impressive.
(Comments from the 9 review)

・Much like previous games, the story's good pacing from the start draws you in.
・Feels a little "forceful" at times, but the tactics in court provide excitement that draws you in.
(Comments from the 8 review)

Also, the game's completion time is roughly 25 hours.

There's also some more screens of Pearl and a section on Psyche-Locks, so I guess we know what'll be on the official site in a few hours.

Thanks for the translations!
