It feels so weird playing the same game twice at the same time.

Oddly enough, Athena doesn't only speak German; she also speaks Spanish & French.

Spoiler: Recurring / Reused Misc. Things
  • Whenever court begins, the text shows "Open Session" -> "All Rise"

    Characters addressing others
  • Odoroki -> Kokone; "Kidzuki-san"
  • Kokone -> Odoroki; "Odoroki-senpai" (w/o kanji)
  • Kokone -> Shinobu; "Shinobu"
  • Shinobu -> Kokone; "Koko-chan"
  • Odoroki -> Shinobu; "Morizumi-san"
  • Shinobu -> Odoroki; "Odoroki-san" (w/o kanji)
  • Kokone -> Naruhodou; "Naruhodo-san" (w/o kanji)
All addressed English names here are first names; Koko-chan -> Thena
  • Monita always speaks with katakana, unless it uses kanji (robot voices do that)
  • Kokone's "Let's do this!" is always written in English; likewise with Kyouya's "Let's rock!"

Spoiler: Case 1 Evidence & Notes
  • Tonate's ID: 51103UR -> L10015R
  • Writing on the ground says "SINOBU" -> "WOODS"

Spoiler: Turnabout Countdown Day 1
    Pre-Trial
  • Juniper's gift to Athena
Kokone: Ah, thanks! Um, is this an iyokan? [TN: type of citrus fruit, related to tangerine family]
Shinobu: Yes. ...My grandma once said,
If you eat iyokan, it's a "good omen". [TN: romaji: "ii youkan"]

Athena: Hey, thanks! So, um... Is this an orange or a tangerine?
Woods: It's an orange! My grandma says...
...that orange is the color of strength and endurance.
  • Apollo asks if Athena will be fine
Kokone: N-no problem! (Maybe...) [TN: "no problem" in katakana]

Athena: No hay problema! I can handle it! (I think.) [TN: see above]

    Trial Begins
  • Athena's insults
    Monita: This twisted prosecutor!
    Kokone: Ah! Hey, Monita!
    ...
Auchi: In your heart, you really thought of me as the "twist prosecutor"! [TN: "twist" in katakana]
Kokone: Hyaiiii! (Actually, it was twisted prosecutor...)

    Widget: You arrogant jerk!
    Athena: N-no, Widget!
    ...
Payne: ...then you indeed said I was... what was it? "Elegance at work"?
Athena: Eeep! (Actually, it was arrogant jerk...)
  • Payne calls her a "yellow monkey" instead of "yellow chick" (as in, little chicken). His title is now "Rookie Humiliator".
  • The judge slipping as he fled is reduced from 15 to 10 (Perhaps due to text length? It does fill a lot of the text box.)
Kokone: (Is he really still alive?)
Athena: (Maybe the court should see to getting you even shorter robes...)
  • Payne suggests Athena to answer a question for him
Kokone: (He's just so overly irritating. I've got a bad feeling... no, a bad prosecutor!)
    Monita: Bad prosecutor!

Athena: (Could he BE any more condescending!? Really! What a thoroughly unpleasant man!)
    Widget: "L" is for "Loser"!
  • Athena answers correctly
Kokone: The bomb was inside this fiendish elephant...
    It's been "plushified"!

Athena: It was stuffed inside a stuffed animal!
Its evil intentions covered up by a cute exterior!
  • Campaign motto
"netsuzou shichau zou!" = "Forge evidence all the way!" (zou = elephant)
Kokone: (That's awful... in so many ways.)

"Phony Evidence is just Trunked Up!"
Athena: (That's so wrong on so many levels.)

    Tonate's introduction
  • Despite the warped voice, he still types in hiragana and kanji, sometimes ending with katakana. (He even talks like this.) He types in capital letters in the Eng ver.
Saibancho: What in the? You sound just like a robot!

Judge: Oh, my! What a strange, robotic voice you have!
  • Tonate explaining the detonation mechanism
Barashima: If they know how, anyone, even a child, could do it. Mr. Attorney, surely you could too.
Kokone: Naruhodo-san, looks like you're now labeled as a child.

Tonate: A MONKEY COULD DO IT. I'M SURE EVEN YOU COULD, MR. WRIGHT.
Athena: Uh, I guess this makes you the Blue Monkey in this barrel of fun, Boss...
  • Tonate disarms his bomb model
Saibancho: Please don't startle us like that!

Judge: Are you trying to give me a heart attack?! I'm not exactly a spring chicken, you know!

    Cross-exam
  • Press Tonate about watching from the gallery
Barashima: Dissembling the "爆" in "爆弾" makes "火" and "暴". [TN: in order, "burst", "bomb", "fire", "burst"/"violent"]
A dangerous object remains so no matter how you change it.

Tonate: EVEN THOUGH THE BOMB WAS DISARMED, YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO CAREFUL.
EXPLOSIVE DEVICES ARE VERY DANGEROUS THINGS.
  • Objection
Auchi: What's small here is your skill, Defense! Suspicious men aren't very well liked.
    Naruhodo: (You're one to talk...)

Payne: The only tiny thing here... is your skill as a lawyer! Being suspicious is not an attractive quality, you know.
Phoenix: (And you're just overflowing with attractive qualities, are you...?)

    Juniper's counseling
  • Payne mentions his exemplary manners
Auchi: A gentleman such as I to be labeled as "clingy" wouldn't do. [TN: since it's rude to always bother others]
If you must know, I attend a manners class every weekend.
In other words, I am a weekly gentleman! [TN: "shuumatsu" = week]
Kokone: The moment you start frightening young ladies is the moment you stop being a gentleman!
You mixed it up with a terminated gentleman! [TN: she uses "shuumatsu", but written differently]

Payne: How dare you you call a gentleman such as I a "rude ruffian"?!
I'll have you know I attend a manners class every Saturday.
    I'm more than just a mere gentleman -- I'm a GENTEEL-man!
Athena: Not when you're terrorizing a young lady you're not!
I'd demand my money back from that manners class if I were you!
  • Campaign motto
"Enzai yamete kudasai!" = "Please stop false charges!" (sai = rhino; 'zai' is a variant pronunciation)
Naruhodo: (I get the puns, but making an elephant and a rhino "brothers"...?)

    "No More Bum Raps!"
Phoenix: (Nothing against the campaign, but why an elephant and a rhinoceros?)

    End of the day
  • Athena's last chant
    Kokone: ...Let's do this!

Athena: Auf geht's! Let's do this! [TN: "Let's get going!"]

Spoiler: Turnabout Countdown Day 2
    Pre-Trial
  • Athena tries to comfort Juniper...
Kokone: But wow! I was really surprised by that yeti sighting! [TN: "odoroki" = surprise]
    Shinobu: ! O...do...ro...ki?
    Kokone: Eh?

Athena: You really should read the story for yourself. I couldn't even begin to do it justice.
    Juniper: ! "Justice"...?
    Athena: Huh?

    Decoding the bloody writing
  • Early thoughts
Naruhodo: But if you think about it, writing specifically in romaji is strange!
Oh, wait! Maybe it's something written in English!
Saibancho: Hmm, I'm not very familiar with English words, so I wouldn't know...
Auchi: *chuckle* If you must know, I also take a weekly English class.
In other words, I am a weekly American. Thus, I can safely say that
there's no such English word as "SINOBU"!
    Naruhodo: Is that right, Kokone-chan?
Kokone: Sorry, but I've never heard of a word like that.
    ...
Naruhodo: (If they're not letters of the alphabet, could they have another meaning?)
(Hiragana? Katakana? Kanji? Is there nothing in the evidence that has words?)
(Think! Think it through, Naruhodou Ryuuichi!)

Phoenix: But Candice Arme was a detective! Maybe "WOODS" only means something to the police.
Like a police scanner code, for example.
Judge: Hmm... I didn't think of that...
Payne: Heh heh. You may have tricked His Honor, but you'll never get the best of me.
I have a thing for studying on the weekends, as you may have already guessed.
And there is no such radio code as "WOODS" in this state, dear Mr. Wright!
Phoenix: I-is that a fact, heh heh...
Athena: Don't look at me. I know as much as you do about police codes.
    ...
Phoenix: (What other meaning could it have besides the obvious one...?)
(Maybe it's in another language? Or maybe it's a code?)
(Think, Phoenix! You can do this!)
  • Erasing one line
Saibancho: A-anywhere, you say...? Then, I'll erase the "I".
........So, what is this supposed to mean?
Naruhodo: ........That, would be what your current state of mind is like.
Kokone: Na, Naruhodo-san! Why are you doing a psychology test?
Saibancho: My state of mind is now unsatisfied as usual, I have to say...

Judge: A-anywhere I'd like?! ...All right. I'll erase one of the "Os".
"WODS"? And what is that supposed to mean?
Phoenix: Your state of mind. I believe it stands for "wise, optimistic, dauntless, and serene."
Athena: Boss, what in the world?! This is no time for a psychology test!
Judge: I can't say my state of mind is exactly "serene" right now, Mr. Wright.
  • Erasing two lines
For "SINOBU", erase the middle line of "N" and the left line of "B" -> 511103U(R)
For "WOODS", erase the line 2nd to the right of "W" and the right curve of "D" -> L10015(R)

Saibancho: Umm... Oh, t-this is! ...........
    "Shiiiosan'u"?
Naruhodo: Why are you reading it as romaji!?
    ...
Auchi: You would then become Attorney Norehodo! [TN: ナ and ル -> ノ and レ]
    Saibancho: Well, then? Attorney Norehodo!
Naruhodo: Please don't erase it as you like!

Judge: Well! Would you look at that! ...........
    "LIOOIS"?
Phoenix: No, no, Your Honor! It isn't meant to be read as a word!
    ...
Payne: What if we erased two lines from your name?! Would you be happy as "Mr. Wrigh"?!
Judge: Well? Would you, Mr. Wrigh?
Phoenix: The only RIGHT spelling is "Wright"!

    Tonate on the stand again
  • Press about "no bloody writing"
Barashima: I can see very well, even down to every single strand of your spiky hair.
Oh, there's one that's prematurely gray.
    Naruhodo: Eh...!
Kokone: ...Naruhodo-san, it must be hard, being the Chief and all.
    Naruhodo: (A-are you kidding me!?)
    Barashima: Just kidding.
    Naruhodo: Objection!
I object to the witness's underhanded comment!
Saibancho: Witness! I don't appreciate your deception regarding people's hair!
Kokone: T-there's a great amount of sorrow coming from the judge!

Tonate: I CAN SEE QUITE WELL WITH THEM. IN FACT, I CAN SEE EVERY HAIR ON YOUR SPIKY HEAD.
OH, YOU HAVE A FEW GRAYS, MR. WRIGHT.
    Phoenix: What?!
Athena: Poor Mr. Wright. You're always working so hard, keeping our office together...
Phoenix: (Wait a minute! I don't have any gray hairs!)
    Tonate: JUST KIDDING.
    Phoenix: Objection!
I-I object to the witness's attempt to prematurely give me gray hair!
Judge: Mr. Tonate, this court frowns upon untoward comments on a person's hair, or lack thereof!
Athena: I'm sensing a great sorrow coming from the judge...

    Final cross-exam
  • Press about not detonating the bomb
Kokone: You only just reclaimed your attorney's badge!
In that case, you're even more... of a rookie than I am!
Naruhodo: (...You're not helping me here.)

Athena: You just got your attorney's badge back, after all.
In that sense, you're still more of a beginner than I am!
Phoenix: (.........I suppose I should be thankful you're not a licensed psychologist.)
  • About the missing R...
    Kokone: W-what is it, Naruhodo-san!?
    Suddenly shouting out like that!

Athena: What is it now, Mr. Wright?!
Are you trying to imitate Apollo and his "Chords of Steel"?
  • Because Japanese usually uses an English keyboard to type, kana are spelled out in pairs or triples and reformatted to become characters. It's obvious that Barashima uses such a keyboard because his panicked outbursts include random English letters and numbers.
  • When prompted whether or not to run, one option goes "Run like a yellow-bellied chicken"
  • Guessing on the bomb photo
Kokone: ...Ooooh. I thought we're really gonna die here.

Athena: Ugh... If the bomb doesn't get us, the judge definitely will if you don't get this right!
  • Tonate insisting on the HH-3000
Naruhodo: (O-okay, he doesn't seem right anymore.)

Phoenix: (Mad Bomber, party of one.)

Edit: Working on case 2 right now. My God, Athena loves to throw in random European languages. Kokone frequently uses English, but not on the level that Athena spouts in foreign tongue.

Edit 2: Added a whole bunch of stuff and cleaned up the entries for easier reading.

Well, depending on the country, you are really required to learn a lot of European languages at high school. I know I did English, French, German, (classical) Greek and Latin as foreign languages at middle/high school and I know some schools also offered Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

Oh, I know. She just tends to toss out words or phrases without warning. I don't like calling her a Mary Sue, but this quirk only adds further to it. It's like an attempt at parodying the very concept of a Mary Sue... You know what? That's exactly how I'm going to see her as now. This is Ace Attorney, legal world of parody.

Spoiler: Case 2 Stuff
    Characters addressing others
  • Minuki -> Odoroki; "Odoroki-san" (w/o kanji)
  • Minuki -> Naruhodou; "Papa"
  • Minuki -> Kokone; "Kokone-san"
  • Minuki -> Yumemi; "Yumemi-chan"
  • Odoroki -> Yumemi; "Yumemi-san"
  • Yumemi -> Minuki; "Minuki-chan"
  • Yumemi -> Odoroki; "Oni no bengoshi-san" (Mr. Demon Lawyer)
  • Odoroki -> Tenma; "Tenma-shichou" (Mayor Tenma)
  • Kumabee -> anyone he's trying to flatter; adds "-dono" or keeps the proper title
  • Kumabee -> Biyouin; "Biyouin no danna" (Master Biyouin)
  • Yuugami -> Odoroki; "Doro no Ji" (The Mud Word)
  • Yuugami -> Kokone; "Tsuki no Ji" (The Mood Word)
  • Yuugami -> Ban; "Ossan" (old man)
  • For some reason, Blackquill calls his opponents using the "-dono" suffix, though it's supposed to be polite, unlike with using "no ji"; he calls the judge "Your Baldness", Fulbright "Fool Bright", and witnesses various nicknames that don't use their names
  • The term 'yokai' and all the names of the yokai are preserved; so is 'tanuki' (though I've seen the occasional translation to "monsters" and "raccoon dog")

Spoiler: Case 2 Evidence & Notes
  • L'Belle's perfume brand: "I Am Biyouin" -> "Je Suis L'Belle"

Spoiler: The Monstrous Turnabout Day 1 Investigation
    Before the murder
  • Entering Nine-tales Vale
Minuki: This is Kyuubi Mura. The yokai boom that's the talk of town started here.
Odoroki: Yokai... Oh, yeah... these things do look kinda like some.

Trucy: This is Nine-Tails Vale. Everyone been talking about the yokai craze here.
Apollo: Yokai? Oh, you mean Japanese monsters? Guess that explains all these weird things...
  • Talk about the yokai craze
Minuki: Let's hop aboard the yokai boom, so Papa and Odoroki-san can form a combo!
How about like the red demon / blue demon combo?

Trucy: Let's jump on board the monster craze! You and daddy would be a perfect comedy duo!
You could call yourselves Agni & Rudra, Demon Kings of Comedy!
[TN: Agni and Rudra are from Indian mythology]

Spoiler: The Monstrous Turnabout Day 1 Trial Part 1
    Pre-Trial

  • 1st cross-exam
  • About Apollo's scrawniness: Blackquill calls him a "yellowbelly"; Yugami calls him "aobyoutan" = green calabash or weakling
Kokone: "That's not the impression I get. I'd see you more as a red bell pepper."
Athena: "He didn't get the color right. You'd be more like a squishy red tomato!"
  • Blackquill knew an inmate who sharpened his blade before the strike, "like the samurai of yore" ...before the cutting board
Odoroki: (He was talking about chopping up fish!?)
Apollo: (Wait, so the inmate was a murdering samurai prison chef?)

    2nd cross-exam
  • "Exodus" of the villagers?
Apollo: (The mere thought of His Honor buying into Simon the Psycho-Slasher's words...
makes me want to spark my own exodus out of the courtroom right about now.)
[TN: I'd say Odoroki just wanted to flee with said slasher before him.]

Not sure why I noticed it only now, but why belle if he's male? :3

Okay. I have to admit, that's a bit surprising. I knew they were rewriting him a bit to be more like the stereotype of a samurai, but -dono? Heh? From a insulting nickname, to one which is actually honorific (though, I assume, used sarcastically). And a pretty 'high' one too (on the interhuman relation stepladder). What's he going to call Edgeworth instead of danna then? O_o

L'Belle is short for Labelle, which means "fair, good-looking" in French. His first name is Florent (Flor-ah-n), btw. It comes from the Latin florens, meaning "prosperous, flourishing".
:odoroki: (More like yokai grotesque. This place is just crawling with monsters.)

...My guess? "Edgeworth-daimyo". It makes him sound so regal it's hilarious.

I'll get to the rest of case 2 later. My 3DS first needs a nap and some charge.

I know (like I said, I had to do a lot of languages ^^') I mean, why la belle, which is a feminine word and not the masculine counterpart le beau.

I guess that could be it, because it is (sorta) recognizable, though it would make no sense in a socio-linguistic way. Daimyou was never used as a proper title to address people with. Actually, something like dono is exactly what a close retainer to a daimyou would have used to his master, but they already used on Apollo, so... ^_~'

Yeah, I'm aware of that about daimyo, but "-sama" would be too obvious. I would laugh so hard if he were at some point referred to as 'tonosama', but I don't think it's likely. And yet, I can't pick out any other choices...

Probably because L'Belle makes him sound like a fop. >:D He does introduce himself as "beau divine", hence Apollo's line there.

Beware... my precise dual-wielded stylus action! Haaaaaaah!

Spoiler: The Monstrous Turnabout Day 1 Trial Part 2
    Filch's cross-exam
  • Letting a thief guard the mansion
"mochi ha mochiya" = mochi is from a mochi seller; best results from an expert of a trade
"onaji ana no mujina" = badger/raccoon-dog in the same hole; danger right at home
Athena: After all, it takes one to know one.
Apollo: I dunno, it seems more like letting the fox guard the henhouse to me.
  • Judge: The witness will henceforth testify truthfully under penalty of painful bird attacks!
  • Occasionally, Yugami cites proverbs or poems to pass a point across. Blackquill doesn't do so as elegantly.

    Next cross-exam
  • Yugami: Shall I have Gin feast upon your salted tongues?
Kumabee: Heeeeee! I'm sorry! Please at least leave one!
    Odoroki: (You only have one.)
[TN: It's a figure of speech to say that a liar has two tongues; each for a different time]
Blackquill: Lie again and Taka shall feast upon that forked tongue of yours.
Filch: Yiiipes! Sorry! Just lemme keep me tongue!
Apollo: (At least leave it until we can get the truth out of him, in any case.)
  • Judge: Y-Yes, sir! I hereby declare a three-minute recess before the battle begins!
Athena: I declare Prosecutor Blackquill the winner of this round of Simon Says...

    Recess
  • Odoroki: Ugh. Prosecutor Yugami is getting serious about things now...
Apollo: What's with that guy and the whole samurai act, anyway?

    Jinxie's mood matrix
  • Yumemi uses "kuma" to point out the bags under Yugami's eyes. The latter mistakes her to be talking about Kumabee, suggesting the tanuki tail noodles instead. In English, she only says "bags", and Simon immediately makes the connection to Filch's bags for some reason.
  • Jinxie's cries of yokai bring subject-verb confusion in English. Japanese is vague with numbers unless they're specified; English has no such luxury. Hence why "yokai" was chosen in place of "demon" or "monster". Apollo isn't supposed to respond with doubt until she says "lots of them".
  • The explanations for each of Jinxie's yokai are given in the Japanese version too, so the English one isn't just being wordy here. In other scenes, though, there aren't given explanations in Japanese, so I find this particular Heart Scope section a bit odd out of the rest.

Edit: Whoops, almost missed this... and that.
Spoiler: The Monstrous Turnabout Day 2 Investigation
  • The hair dye: "Shuuichi Color" -> "Couleur me L'Belle"
  • Investigating the scroll in the Forbidden Chamber, it reads right to left like classical Eastern literature. It was mirrored - scrolling left to right - in the localized version.

Spoiler: The Monstrous Turnabout Day 2 Trial Part 1
    Opening session
  • Athena starts off with some extra French, where there's no English substitute originally: "Je suis prêt!"
  • After the judge's opening statement...
Odoroki: (Is it just okay to turn everything around like this?)
Apollo: (Well, this was not an unexpected turn of events...)
  • Blackquill demands testimony, yet Filch dares to call him "Mr. Blackhead"?
Kokone: Even with that footwork, he couldn't run from Prosecutor Yugami, huh?
Odoroki: He'd probably chase him to the ends of hell.

Athena: He may beat a hasty retreat, but there's no escaping Prosecutor Blackquill.
Apollo: Yeah, Blackquill doesn't strike me as the give-up-easy type.

    Filch's testimony
  • Just before the cross-exam
Yugami: ...Signs of the existence of monsters are all simply that: complete rubbish.
Saibancho: So you're saying... people mistook things for them?
Yugami: Precisely. Human sense and perception are easily deceived.
Recently, the prisoner in the cell next to me would cry each night about seeing a ghost...
But of course... it's just the cleaning lady.
Saibancho: Ho ho ho. To even be able to confuse an elderly lady for a ghost.

Blackquill: All monsters are naught but tricks, either of the mind or the cheap parlor variety.
Judge: So, you're saying she created an illusion like one of those magical eye things?
Blackquill: Precisely. Human senses are easily deceived. Take the fellow in the cell next to me.
Each night, he cries and screams about some ghost he thinks he sees.
But in truth, it was simply the janitor.
Judge: Ho ho ho. Prosecutor Blackquill just gave up the ghost, literally!
  • Filch calls Blackquill "Mr. Blackjack" at one point after Apollo's objection to the testimony.
  • Sudden glare from exiting a dark room...
Judge: Like how the reflection from my head blinds fellow moviegoers emerging from the dark.

Spoiler: The Monstrous Turnabout Day 2 Trial Part 2
    L'Belle's cross-exam
  • L'Belle refers to Blackquill as "Your Darkness" during one questioning part.
  • By hiding, L'Belle was hiding his "fabulous" self...
Odoroki: (...From where am I supposed to poke a hole in that?)
Apollo: (I'm sensing a black hole of egocentricity forming around the witness stand.)

    Final cross-exam
  • Just after L'Belle finishes testifying, Apollo is meant to comment to himself, but the text hasn't been colored blue or wrapped in parentheses. I don't know if this is an error or if it's intentional, though the latter would be unlikely.

    Court adjourned
  • Watering L'Belle...?
Odoroki: (Would spraying him actually make him grow back...?)
Apollo: (Um, but wouldn't that just wash MORE of his makeup off?)

That's a very minor, yet interesting change with the ghost part: in Japan, most yuurei are in fact female, which may account for the change in the English version[/has been reading up on Japanese ghost stories and urban legends lately]

Admittedly, I didn't catch that. It's not the first time the localization has swapped a female worker for a male one, though in previous cases, I don't see why they needed to.

I've realized I haven't been checking the dialogue ensuing from optional presentations of evidence. So far of what I have gone through hasn't revealed anything in particular that would make a clear-cut difference, but don't hold my word for it.

Edit: Okay, finally got case 2 done (except the extra dialogues that I may get to later...) and moving onto case 3.

Finally getting around to case 3, but lately I've been feeling sick. I guess it may be thanks to the randomly cold days recently. Dang global warming.

...Is it me, or do Apollo's eyes seem to penetrate through the screen? I remember Phoenix getting two different models for court and investigation. Is it the same for Apollo and Athena, or just him?

Spoiler: Turnabout Academy Day 1 Investigation
  • Apparently, the school newspaper is titled "Themis Herald". It didn't get any special treatment before.
  • Prof. Means loves his "mean" puns - puns using "mean", that is, including his emphasis on "end justifies the means".
  • Robin really likes to use "maaaaaan" a lot.
  • A cardboard box...?
Apollo: Wait, you don't mean a... SNAAAAAAKE!?

Updated this and below.

Spoiler: Turnabout Academy Day 1 Trial Part 1
First Testimony
[*]Myriam: Stealth mode deativated!
[*]After Blackquill's ninja tale:
Athena: (Holy Shinto! How can the judge believe this load of crock!?)
[*]The voice recording: "殺してやる!" = I'm gonna kill you! -> "You're a goner!"
Meant to be mistaken as "コラ!シズヤレイ!" = Hey! Shizuya Rei! -> "Hugh O'Conner!"
[*]The envelope reads: "採" (as in 採用, saiyou) = to use, to adopt, to accept -> "Use"; both are circled

Cross-exam
[*]Press first statement:
Yugami: Smooth and slippery, huh? You mean... your brain?

Blackquill: Indeed, you are quite fair -- fairly desperate!
[*]Press last statement:
Yugami: ..........Hah... It's tiring to have a little brat as an opponent.
Kokone: Objection!
Wh-wh-what did you say!?
Odoroki: Hahaha. And it's tiring to sigh too, huh?
Kokone: It's not something to laugh about! I'm not a little kid anymore!
Odoroki: Okay, okay. I'm sure he meant "adolescent".

Blackquill: .......Hmph. Weary is the trial which pits hawk against canary.
Athena: Objection!
Wh-wh-what did you say!?
Apollo: Ha ha ha. If he's so weary, he sohuld try hmph-ing less. I bet that'd save some energy.
Athena: This is no time for jokes, Apollo! He just called me a canary!
Apollo: Don't let him get to you. At least canaries pick up on things quickly, just like you.
[*]After pressing all:
Yugami: However, in the end... it's still a blade on loan. Trying to master its use is like being completely unarmed.
Kokone: S-stop with the hard-to-understand sayings!

Blackquill: However, the blade is dull, and it shall remain so until you master its use.
Athena: E-enough with the stupid sword metaphors, already!

2nd testimony
[*]Myriam's alibi...?
Atsume: That's right! Around the estimated time of death, I was near my home...
in a secret classroom!
Kokone: (A, a secret classroom...?)
Yugami: Your back has been left open. Sad for you, but this girl can't be the killer.
Saibancho: A bit too rash of you... Defense.
Odoroki: See, I told you.

Scuttlebutt: Oh, yeah, I do! Around the estimated time of death...
...I was at undercover reporter class. It's right near my home!
Athena: (Undercover reporter class?)
Blackquill: The proverbial rug has been pulled from under you. The witness could not be the killer.
Judge: The defense must look before leaping -- or at least make sure the rug's secured to the floor.
Apollo: I tried to warn you.
[*]Myriam's secret photo
Saibancho: The day for taking out the trash, is tomorrow.

Judge: I think it would be more eco-friendly to recycle it, but that's just me.

3rd cross-exam
[*]object to last statement
Saibancho: Keiko's paint... which is to say, it would become like her paint, is that right?
Shinobu: Yes. It's supposed to be transparent, but it can glow in the dark. ...*cough*
[TN: 'keikou' = fluorescence]

Judge: Fluor... what was that again? Fluoride? Did your costume have cavities?
Juniper: Not fluoride -- fluorescent, as in glowing. The paint would make it glow in the dark.

Spoiler: Turnabout Academy Day 1 Trial Part 2
    Robin's mood matrix
  • Like with the kana, Robin spells out her words as she waves her finger.
  • She calls Yugami with -chan; calls Blackquill "Mr. Birdman"

I've searched a couple Japanese fansites that feature comparisons of the two versions. It's surprising how much time these people have... but anyway, I should have used them as references all this time and saved myself some energy. Of course, there may be the occasional section in the Japanese script they can skip over, which names some old or abstract reference that goes completely over my head. It isn't brought up at all in the English for lack of cultural parallels, so it's frustrating finding such.

Now that I take another overview of my progress so far, I notice just how much I've been missing out on. I think I'll have to take a break to go back and fill in for somethings that I didn't catch the first time; since those wrong answers are all waiting to be uncovered. This probably means I'll be taking another hiatus from this thread as I dig around for information, but I promise not to keep you guys waiting for too long. (My apologies for the sudden month-long hiatus when I was still working through GS2. Life got in the way.)

Hey, any of you guys still keeping up with me, how about some suggestions, or even complaints about how I work on this project? I want feedback, but I'm not getting much. I'm thinking about reorganizing this mess into something a bit more clean than the indented lists I have so far, but I'm not sure how else to set the format.

Geez, for so much work that goes into this, I don't get enough viewers. So far, it seems like I'm the only one who's complaining about it.

Now that I've finished with one of my translation projects, I'd like to move back to this one. Since there are multiple threads regarding a direct translation of the Japanese script, compared to the localized English script, I've decided to reorganize my stuff.

Since I may not have stable internet access all the time, coming onto the forums to update posts with my notes can be a hassle. I've settled on keeping my stuff together on text files that I'll come to upload and share it with everyone here. This way, I don't always need to be online to keep progress.

Also, now that I have both scripts back to back, thanks to Jozerick in another thread, I've decided to begin direct translation, rather than continue taking notes, starting from the first game. It'll move a lot more smoothly this way, and I can better describe exactly where a certain train of dialogue is from within a game, even if the script codes aren't exactly in order of play.

As for the GS5 notes, I've lost where I last was, since I ended up skipping too much anyway as I replayed both versions. When I have the game in front of me, I naturally get the urge to play it as is, rather than go script-hunting, and I get distracted. Since it's not on an emulator, I can't just jump back to a save state, and it's a bother to save constantly just for the sake of returning to look for a single train I might have missed. Besides, I run it on a regular 3DS, not an XL, so I don't have as much battery life. I may have to set GS5 aside for now and return to it later if I have the time. Sorry to those who were anticipating it, but I've left this thread on hiatus long enough that you probably forgot about it anyway. Once I'm done with the other games, I'll see if I can get back to it, but I won't be translating it line-by-line, as with the others, unless someone can upload the script, ripped or otherwise, from the game.

Please be patient, folks. Translating games is a long and tedious process, especially in a series like this one.

I can only imagine how much work it must be, so I completely understand. I'm happy to hear that you will still go over the other games.
Once again, thank you for your hard work. :)
