As with Dual Destinies, we've all been looking forward to how the translators have tackled the challenge of translating names that are often more joke than name. This time, though, we've got six translations to look out for, not one!

This post will be used to gather names (be that of people, places, chapters, or things) from all six translated versions of the game. So if English isn't your native language, don't hesitate to contribute! If the name has a special meaning or joke to it, we'd love to hear that too.

Song titles from the sound test are appreciated as well, especially the traditional Ace Attorney ones - this is their first official translation!

Let's get started! I've already filled in most of the names revealed before release.

Spoiler: English names
Mahone Catalucia - Espella Cantabella

Yup - I updated the first post with that a little while back. Sorry for not explicitly mentioning it! You can always check the list in the first post to see if a translation's already been added.

Thanks for the names!

Can I ask, are you playing the game yourself, or watching a playthrough? I've seen a screen or two of video suggesting someone's recorded at least through the second witch trial, but I can't seem to find the actual video anywhere. (Unless it's a streamer.)

Thanks so much! I've been waiting to know these names.

Spoiler:
Oh, my. Eve, eh? Quite the symbolic name, if I do say so myself. Hu hu hu...
By the way, that's not Patty's cat; that's Espella's.

Also, now I can finally say in full English, Constantine is one of my favorite canine characters ever. How does Takumi do it every time!? The animals are either so endearing or badass in some way.

Bunch of Spanish names! Spoilers for the whole game.

Spoiler:
Giovanni Jicole - Sebastian Fatale
Emeer Punchenbaug - Aparicio ("aparecer" means "to appear", and of course, it's supposed to sound similar to the re-appearing spell. Incidentally, Aparicio is an actual Spanish surname)
Chuuken - Ascuas ("embers")

Jordolla (real name) - Selene Belduke

Patras Algery - Jean Bergamot (a bergamot is a fruit and it sounds vaguely French, I guess?)
Mist Belduke - Newton Belduke
Ridelle Mystere - I think she was just called Mysteria?
Cracker - Pipas ("seeds")
Snowy - Copito ("copo" or "copo de nieve" means snowflake. Possibly a reference to Heidi's goat, who was called Copito de nieve in the Spanish dub. Maybe. Idk)
Magic book - Gran Grimorio
Fire spell - Inferno
Invisibilty/re-appearing spell - Disparito/Aparito
Gold spell - Deauro
Portal spell - Portale
Shadow spell... thing - Falma
Sleep spell - Sopio (I'm guessing it comes from "sopor", which means "drowsiness")
Dragon spell - Dracran

Chotto! - ¡Un segundo!
That thing Layton says when he presents stuff in the last case - ¡Atención!

¡Muchísimas gracias!

If I can ask two more things: what does Phoenix yell when you select a specific spot in a picture? And what are the titles of the Ace Attorney songs in the Sound Test? (Not the whole sound test if you don't want, just the 'standard songs' - so the last page of it.)

Phoenix says "¡Eso es!" ("That's it!") when selecting a spot from a picture. The track names for the AA themes aren't translated at all, but the Layton themes and the ones from this game are, which says a lot about the love and care that Capcom puts into translating AA to languages other than English :P

Oh, and also! Phoenix says "¡Muy buenas!" (which is just a way of saying "hi") when Layton and Luke first come into Patty's shop.

That's a shame about the track names. But actually, we haven't gotten official English ones either, so if you could post the English translations that'd be appreciated as well. :trucy:

Thanks for the other info!

This thread is really helpful because of those names.. if I have found some, then I'll post them right away!

The beginning was quite fun, just with all the ups and downs
But suddenly, we’re tired, from a waste of meaningless emotions

Oh, of course! These are the tracks that haven't been translated from English:

42: Phoenix Wright - Objection! 2012
44: Confess the Truth 2012
57: Cornered - Spell-breaker
58: Turnabout Sisters - Music Box Melody
59: Courtroom Lounge - Opening Prelude (Versión "El caso inglés")
60: Court Begins (Versión "El caso inglés")
61: Suspense (Versión "El caso inglés")
62: Logic and Tricks (Versión "El caso inglés")
63: Cross-Examination - Moderato (Versión "El caso inglés")
64: Phoenix Wright - Objection! (Versión "El caso inglés")
65: Cross-Examination - Allegro (Versión "El caso inglés")
66: Confess the Truth (Versión "El caso inglés")
67: Cornered (Versión "El caso inglés")
68: Won the Case! - First Victory (Versión "El caso inglés")

The (Versión "El caso inglés") part means they're used during the first trial, I guess; "El caso inglés" is the Spanish name of the first case in the game (before Labyrinthia). Every other track is from Professor Layton or unique to PL vs AA, and has the track name in Spanish.

Cool! Thanks so much for looking - I've been really curious about the official translations for the titles. Looks like most of them are in line with the common fan names (and we finally get an official word on the "Confess the Truth" tracks.)

I'm trying to put these in some kind of order that makes sense. Indoor sections for places that have the "Enter" prompt will be in brackets.
Spoiler: English place names
Main Street
Town Centre
W. Shopping Area
E. Shopping Area (Bakery, Espella's Room)
North Parade Avenue
Town Square
Town Square Outskirts
Alchemist's House (Butler's Room, Alchemist's Study, Basement Study)
Great Archive Entrance (Great Archive, Special Viewing Room, Great Archive Cellar)
Guarded Gate
Knights' Garrison
Audience Rm. Entrance (Audience Room)
Road to the Court
Court Entrance (Waiting Hall, Deathknell Dungeon, Inquisitors' Hall, Fire Pit Mechanism)
Marketplace
Seedy Alley (Tavern, Sculptor's Room)
Forest of Lost Way
Village Outskirts
Shades' Village East
Shades' Village West
Red Flower Lake
Wagon Station
Great Witch's Abode (Shades' Workshop, Great Witch's Room)

The following are also techically inside Great Witch's Abode, but I separated them due to the way they're named:

Ruins - Waterway
Ruins - Small Room
Ruins - Sealed Way
The Altar Room

This is missing the place names from London and Storyteller's Tower area, but otherwise it should be all.

Small corrections to the German names. At least that's what I thought they were.

Emeer Punchenbaug - Vidian
Sleep spell - Somnus

And some more, since I just played the game.

de Victoire's daughter's real name is Nora. She's referred to as Großinquisitorin Gloria most of the time though. Don't know her Japanese or English name.
The Storyteller's real name - Louis de Narrateur
Yutorino Gardner - Johnny Smiles
Flynch - Blindman (I think?)
Olive Aldente - Olivia Aldente
Barnham's dog - Fassfor
Biscuit - Cookie
Crook-looking sculptor - Bill Hauer
Bartender - Barbara Rossa
Aspiring Knight - Knights
The two little siblings - Greta and Hänschen

(The part where you have to use the magnifying glass to point stuff out) - "Hier!"
"Have a look!" - "Schau!"
Pauca sed matura.

I didn't write down the names, so you're most likely right.

Here I am sure it's Blynde (combination of blind and blonde).

Thanks.

And I believe that lady with the lamb is Gwen something or other.
Also don't know if that great witch's name was already mentioned in this thread, but in the German game, her name is Arcana.

More names from the Spanish version. I'm sorry for not knowing the original names, I'll try to describe the characters.

Spoiler:
Great Witch Bezella: Bruja Suprema Arcana

Johnny Smiles: Johnny Fanfare
The witness from the second case who wanted to be an Inquisitor: Hidalguio (from "hidalgo")
Mary and Snowy: Señora Capri and Copito (snowflake)
The teacher witness in the third case: Miss Severiana (from "severa", meaning severe). Her catchphrase is "¡Vaya, vaya, qué barbaridad!".
The witness in the last case who has so many wounds: Maltrech (from "maltrecho", meaning injured).

Spoiler: Last case
Storyteller's real name: Arthur Fable
Darklaw/Diana's real name: Selene Belduke

The final spell: Finistorio ("fin", meaning end, and "historia", meaning story)

That's all I can remember right now. If you'd like to know another Spanish name just ask.
I'm not English. Excuse my grammar errors.

Played the last part again, so I got some more names:

The captain and the first seven guards are: Captain Haubert, Lonzelat, Balmung, Papperlot, Zappellot, Von Schlag, Dominika, and Zu Tritt. Can't remember the name of that short guy; it's too long.

Eve Belduke=Dafne Belleduque
Jean Greyerl=Robin Earlington
Arthur Cantabella=Dedalus Minstrel
Patty=Madama Michetta
Ridelle Mistere=Miss Terry
