Godot is a complex character but he's not exactly a "good" person nor was he a good prosecutor. In terms of performance, even Manfred von Karma could be seen to be more competent. There is no denying that Von Karma was utterly corrupted but the reason he was so feared because he was "perfect" in that he left nothing to chance. In comparison to Godot referred to two pieces of evidence (the apron and the lantern) in court without knowing the full details of them due to his handicap and that is very negligent.

Ultimately the thing that let Godot down in his job was that he never took it seriously. His goal was to outdo Phoenix not in a professional capacity but personally too. He had no business being in a courtroom, really...

Not to mention not allowed to do anything on his own. Ever. :udgey:

Godot was a great guy, but he wasn't the best prosecutor. He didn't do anything what would have been visible for us to see that he makes a great prosecutor. He didn't win a case and in fact he never did anything great. For me, he's a great guy, yes, but not a good prosecutor.

The beginning was quite fun, just with all the ups and downs

He admitted he was willing to kill Pearl to salvage his own sense of self-worth. Tragic guy? Sure. Great guy? Nope

I have always been one of those people who just can't see Godot as a great, heroic or even good person. He is extremely interesting and complex but he's like something out of a Shakespearean tragedy. As JesusMonroe pointed out:

Not to mention the fact that he willingly let Maya walk into a dangerous situation as wish fulfillment. He wanted to be the White Knight to rescue the sweet Fey. He could have easily subdued "Dahlia" but he "killed" her, and in doing so killed Misty.

Godot's poor conduct as a prosecutor ties in with his poor conduct as a person.

I agreed. I bet opinions on Godot would be a lot more different if Pearl was the victim of 3-5 (and she easily could've been) and he tried to pin the blame on Iris for that

Funny thing about Godot is that he would probably be one of my favorite characters/villains if Takumi didn't try to elicit sympathy and imply that Godot was a truly good person instead of an ass who got fucked hard by the world

Godot suffers from the Acro Complex. :acro:

But I am a harsh critic. I find hard to sympathize with Misty, Iris and Godot (Dumb, Dumber and Jerk respectfully) for what happened. They are interesting characters but they are all amoral and they really brought what happened upon themselves. Yet we are told to feel sorry for all of them. The trouble with Godot is that while Misty and Iris are pitiful, he really isn't. He knowingly manipulated two people into going along with a plan that he himself admitted would have been easily foiled had he gone to Phoenix and Maya when he learned of Morgan's plan.

IIRC, Luke Atmey said that, not Gumshoe.

Luke Atmey is a dope.
Spoiler: Script
<Maya>
Um... Who is this "Godot"
person...?

<Atmey>
...It's not surprising that
a spirit medium has not
heard the name.

Godot. The prosecutor whose
equal cannot be found in this
country, but in heaven.

Godot. A legend or myth... Men
pin a lifetime of hopes on the
chance to simply meet him.

<Pearl>
Prosecutor...

<Maya>
But the best prosecutor
in the country isn't Godot,
it's Mr. Edgeworth!

Isn't that right, Nick!?

<Atmey>
...It's no surprise that a
spirit medium such as yourself
would know nothing of this.

But Ace Prosecutor
Miles Edgeworth is
currently traveling abroad.

<Maya>
Huh...?

<Atmey>
In fact, it was Mr. Edgeworth
who acknowledged Godot as
the best in this country.

<Pearl>
And you agree with that?

<Atmey>
Most certainly. In fact, you
could call him the Luke Atmey
of the Prosecutor's Office.

<Maya>
Well, that's good to hear!
The prosecution has a
fighting chance tomorrow!

<Pearl>
Mr. Nick, is this "Godot"
really that strong?

<Phoenix>
Hmm... I seem to remember
hearing about someone like
that...

<Atmey>
Not surprising... Some people
spend their entire lives idly
waiting for his appearance.

I meant Atmy not Gumshoe

<Atmey>
In fact, it was Mr. Edgeworth
who acknowledged Godot as

That makes no sense as in case 5 as pointed out earlier Edgeworth has no idea who Godot is

Just judging from his style in court, it felt different enough from Edgeworth, yet competent in its own way. He didn't feel threatening at first, but after I played a bit, I quickly understood that this guy knew what he was doing. Had he been up against anyone else, he would've crushed them in court. Even in Nick's case, he wasn't focused on winning, he was trying to challenge Nick in court, to see if he was a truly good defense attorney. In the end, he got exactly what he was searching for, and it wasn't a win. He was successful in testing Nick's skill to its full potential, and that shows enough of his skill as a prosecutor in my eyes.

Studies of his character aside... I think Godot did well in his job. He was a competent prosecutor.

All he did was ask for proof. I love the guy but don't think he was that good. Still he was a much better opponent than Franziska and Klavier
