People weren't too fond of the train. Or the touch screen controls. Or the spirit flute segments. I get why people would be put off by the first two, but the last one never msde sense to me. I looked around and people were complaining that it took them "literally forever because they couldn't get the rythm correct." Yet in game, they flat out give you the rythm and time to practice it, so when the time came, I had no setbacks with it.

You can. My PSN/PS3 is living proof, I only got Symphonia off the PSN. I made sure it was only that, cause I can't stand Ratatosk. (Bad enough I wasted money on importing the Japanese Wii version AND putzed around on my Wii, to make it play import, I'm not wasting money on that again)

Oh, yeah. Tons of it. I think they were, once again, annoyed that it was 'Celda', that it still focused on touch screen controls and they complained that the train riding was like sailing in Wind Waker, only less fun. (Well, for those who found the sailing fun) Personally, I only watched an LP and... eh, the game looks fun enough. I personally tried to play it, but I felt like the touch screen controls would not work for me in the long run, so I decided to let it be. But some of the dungeons still look pretty fun.

Quote:
Twilight Princess was better than Wind Waker.

I kind of agree. Sure, TP has some problems in the villain department and some REALLY annoying dungeons *coughcityintheskycough*, but I did like several aspects of it, too. I like how you don't need to do lots of travelling, before you gain access to teleporting. Hyrule Field is pretty big and has lots of things to discover, but it LOOKS empty, which lead to me not WANTING to explore it much.

But! TP has... The Spinner! OmG, I love that thing! And I love Arbiter's Ground AND its Boss, best boss battle I have had in Zelda games up to that point! (Then came Skyward Sword and every battle against Ghirahim) I also liked the Water Temple there, and while I sort of hate the City In The Sky, it was also kinda cool... But I absolutely LOATHE the Lost Woods. Once was bad enough, then I need to go through it a SECOND TIME?! And THEN I get the teleport there?! Why?! That was SO annoying. But the Temple of Time sort of made up for it.

Sailing itself was fine, the problem was that there was so much freaking sailing to do, it just became grating. *cough*pointlesseternalnightsegment*cough*. Not to mention having to obtain bait just to mark an island on the map.
Though I find it funny that out of all the Toon Link games, Phantom Hourglass has the lowest average travel time, and that's the majority's least favorite.

Then again the Zelda fanbase can be pretty ridiculous, the Zelda Cycle meme exists for a reason

I think most people just didn't like the trains.

I remember my camp counselor once asking what my favorite Zelda game was. When I said Spirit Tracks he demanded I pick another one, without giving a reason why. Yep.

EDIT: Also I got ninja's by pretty much everyone but whatever.

One of the reasons i personally have been liking Spirit tracks is because out of all the Zelda's this one's world is the most modern. With trains and some of the mooks use some kind of car like vehicle and there's a small line of dialogue made by an NPC that implies they have cinema in that world.

I would have told him, "You can ask me however many times you want, I will NOT say Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask" with a shit-eating grin on my face. :will:

I'm contemplating getting the European version of Story of Seasons. I mean, my Japanese version is working FINE and I have no problem playing it. Mutliplayer is always empty, but that might just be that Japanese players aren't on when I am on. And SoS can be played fine without Multiplayer. With the European version, I might lose some unique character speech-type and it would be in English... just costs 40€. On the one hand, I want to buy it. On another, I'd basically be rebuying a game... (Not that I haven't done that before. Just look at my Tales collection, I have the localized and Japanese version.)

I don't dislike Spirit Tracks or Phantom Hourglass for being Celda. I dislike them because I'm not a huge fan of the touch control style of fighting and moving around that the games had. If they had button inputs instead, I'd have been fine.

For those who loved the games, but otherwise hated the touch controls, you might be interested in these links.

(Note: Not sure if that's allowed or not, since I'm only linking to patches for the original games, and not the games themselves, but if it's not, let me know, and I'll get rid of them).

Time for another...

TALE FROM THE TABLE!

So...in the underground tunnels of the Temple of Elemental Fire, things are going smooth. Our Warlock Malakai has some decidedly powerful spells that are truly coming into their own. We win more than one fight by blocking the escape exit and letting his dark-writhing-cloud-of-eldritch-tentacles slaughter everything in the room.

Feeling full of confidence we saunter on until we encounter two huge guys with fire blaring out a hole in their chest wielding flaming pikes. Bit of a rougher fight and I need to prop up a few people from unconsciousness from fire damage but the real trouble comes at the end of the fight.

So we've got one of the guys weak and dying. Our Sorcerer Kurraw blasts it with a ray of sickness and the thing crumples and dies...in a blast of explosive flame that hits about 3 of the party members for about 6-8D6. Excessive damage in any case.

Deciding to be a bit more careful we start cautiously gauging the remaining bad guy's health cautiously. I force him to disarm so he grapples our Rogue Smidley to do some damage.

Kurraw's turn rolls around.

He's got a diabolical look in his eye.

The GM confirms the bad guy is critically wounded. The GM picks up on Kurraw's devious grin and offers him 2 Inspiration (a very limited and valuable resource) if he kills the bad guy right now...with every other party member in range of the explosion and on flagging health. Kurraw in this infinite wisdom takes him up on the offer and the following explosion takes out me and Smidley (again) as well as hurting everyone else, except Kurraw, pretty badly.

Once we slowly recover with healing potions, we extract some compensation from Kurraw to pay for the health potions required to fix us. I took care of the rest of the healing but it doesn't matter, the trust has been broken. Kurraw has been healed his last heal from me.

Continuing on into the dungeon we continue cruising at a decent pace, some smooth encounters and we find ourselves moving towards another one of the temples (of earth) finding out that they are connected underground. Deciding that we want to be pretty thorough in our investigation we head back towards the Fire Temple and take a different turn.

And come to a long corridor with tonnes of rooms, almost like a row of cells. Guul the Barbarian opens the first door and we find a Fire Wrath (not Wraith) inside. We all grimace as it appears to be a fire spellcaster, which means FIREBALLS. Guul and Smidley get to work on slaughtering that guy but not without taking a ton of fire damage from contact with the flaming enemy and a (as expected) fireball.

Two guards burst out of another room and run up and start swinging at me ineffectively.

Kurraw's turn rolls around.
He blasts an enemy with a spell and the GM calls upon him to roll on his Wild Magic table. As a Wild Mage, he gets some benefits in exchange for occasionally rolling on a table. He rolls a 42 and we look it up.

He turns into a potted plant.

We're certain it's a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference.

He has vulnerability to EVERYTHING.

Another Fire Wrath prances out of another room, big grin on his face and blasts us with another Fireball. The GM rolls like a boss and hits us with a huge 33 damage. Knocks me unconscious and incinerates the tiny plant pot that was Kurraw with a whopping 76 big ones. He's so dead...like...so dead I don't even get a chance to heal him.

We mop up the fight (barely) and loot Kurraw's body.

We take his body out of the dungeon deciding it's best to leave now considering how beat up we are.
We ensure Kurraw is well PLANTED in the ground and continue making leaf puns while we laugh over his grave.

Good times.

I've glanced over the Wild Magic table. I, uh, don't remember that one...

But what do ya know, I have my own D&D story, too. Yesterday I had the craziest D&D session everrr~ We were 1 [stat value/die roll] from dying four times. I'd type it all up, but the GM already did so (in a fb post), so...
Quote:
Well, that was the most amazing session of Pathfinder I've ever run, all thanks to my players. When a combat involves (1) a Diplomacy check from PC 1 to sway a henchman who had just stabbed him into stepping aside, (2) a dive across the roof by PC 1 just in time to grab the arms of his lover whose throat has been slit by an enemy as she tumbles to her death, (3) PC 1 being stabbed in the back by that same enemy and falling with his lover to the ground 30 feet below as they both bleed out, (4) PC 2, having run out of healing spells, throwing herself off the roof, breaking a leg upon impact but still landing on her feet and just managing to make an untrained check to stabilize PC 1 literally seconds before he dies by staunching his wounds, (5) PC 3 charging in to avenge her fallen comrades and landing one solid hit before being reduced to 1 hp by a full attack and getting nearly bull rushed off the roof before stopping right at the edge, only prevented from falling by PC 4's earlier buff making it harder for PC 3 to be bull rushed, (6) PC 4 running around the building to heal the love interest (who was also actively dying but at least had more than 2 seconds before that happened) and bring her to consciousness, then in the next three seconds seeing PC 3 step backwards off the roof because staying up there would have led to the enemy killing her and PC 4 casting Feather Fall so she landed safely, then the combat ending with (7) PC 2 casting Obscuring Mist so they can run away (PC 4 carrying the still-unconscious and 1 hp away from death PC 1 over one shoulder) as their enemy bellows after them, and finally (8) unbeknownst to the party, inside the building PC 3's animal companion is bleeding out on the ground due to some earlier combat damage and an ill-timed 1 on a Climb check, and the henchman PC 1 convinced to stand aside feels guilty enough about what went on (he thought he was joining an anti-slavery movement, not an insane fanatic) that he stabilizes the animal companion and sneaks him out the back, the party only discovering his survival after tracking his blood trail and scent back to their original base where their employer asks, "Why did you leave your pet here?" The villain is still alive (for now), but it was a pretty good combat, overall.

Hey, this post makes me wonder, is there anywhere online I can play a D&D rp? I'd like to learn how to play the tabletop version, but I don't know anywhere nearby that hosts the game.

I've played an online RP oneshot of Kuro (J-horror RPG) on roll20.net. From my understanding it's a platform that a number of RPs can be done on and I've seen either Pathfinder or D&D done on it. I forget which one but they are very similar functionally.

The real issue you'd have is probably in having a GM and players to play alongside. Would need to dig around forums for a group.

Sure but you're assuming that everyone who has posted about it is up for a new campaign. Also that any of us have experience with GMing a game or planning a campaign. Me and BP were only sharing fun times rather than saying we'd be up for another campaign. Also its the first time you've mentioned it that I can see :-P Can't really berate me for not seeing that earlier. Its not that I'm against the idea of a campaign but I'm not blind to the difficulties of getting something like this going.

Play by post could work for sure considering that roll20 tracks all rolls. It'd be a new thing for me as I've only ever done tabletop rping live.

Got me a very cheap PlayStation TV, as well as a (free review) copy of Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls, which was a good deal (the PTV itself cost me less than what a copy of the game would've cost me). While there are not that many games that I want that are exclusively released on the Vita, I can still think of a handful of neat-looking adventures released in Japan I'm definitely going to get now I have a PTV.

I realize that, with the newer Bokujo/Harvest Moon games, I don't like playing as a boy as much. In ANB and SoS, the clothing options aren't that awesome, same with the hair and the love interests are... meh. So now I have two girl files in ANB. One will skip until Year 4, then actually do 'work'. (The other, I'm trying to get Allen to propose, I just want to see it happen)

In general: working for something that reviews things? :P In this specific example, I'm not going into details because you never know who's reading, but sometimes a publication doesn't always have enough review space for all the review copies they get, so what's left goes to whoever in the team wants them.

I'm thinking of maybe playing Zestiria. I haven't seen gameplay footage, beyond battles, which looks okay.
Sumguy, how's the story? I know a few things off and on, but witout context barely make sense to me (apparently, Shepherd means something Important here; I thought Sorey wanted to just become... you know, a regular person who herds sheep). Is the story okay? Like, is it as good as Abyss' or is it more okay-to-bland-to-bad like Xillia/Xillia 2?

For the most part, bland-to-bad. Not many meaningful twists, the villain might as well be Ganondorf except for when he actually does something somewhat unique at the very end, LittleKuriboh has a speaking role in the English dub (seriously) though the game has dual audio, expect to hear "malevolence" as much as Kingdom Hearts uses "darkness," and a psychopath joins your party who the game justifies with a flimsy excuse. The beginning of the game tries to make some of your minor actions have some consequences, but that doesn't last long. There's one moment in the story that everyone loves, but it's near the end. Also, there's a triforce hunt, though you can start collecting the items early (I was 75% done with it when the story asked for it). Honestly, the best part about it is the part of the soundtrack composed by Go Shiina.

I always pronounced it Fux-ia.

I'm watching AestheticGamer's LP of Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut and all I'm wondering is... where's the premonition? Where's the deadly part? I know, I'm only up to the video where he just got done with the autopsy of the dead girl, but still. Nothing seems to really cry deadly premonition of any kind.

PS: Well, I figured out something for later in Deadly Premonition even without clicking the spoiler tag, but only because the unspoiled part uses a previously used term, telling me what will happen to one of the characters. On the other hand, I clicked a spoiler tag for a conversation part of a scene I had already seen... and it seemed to spoil me on the killer's identity... ...Oops.

This is pretty random, but... the Japanese version of PLvAA is 63% on sale on Play-Asia right now, so if you happen to have a Japanese 3DS and for some reason haven't picked up PLvAA yet...

I have technically finished Nameless - as in, I recorded all routes and only need to finish editing and uploading them; though I still need to collect a few CGs or bad endings that I missed. In the meantime, I got myself Dandelion. The game made before Nameless, by the same company.

Heejung lives alone and suddenly gets 5 animals into her home: 3 rabbits and 2 cats. Eventually, the animals turn into boys (haven't reached that part yet). Up to now, it's been nothing but ADORABLE because... guys! Animals! Cats! Rabbits! So totez kawaii-desuuuuukaaaa! :pearl-blush:

The game is also based on parameters and not just dialogue options, like Nameless. It's a nice change and sounds similar enough to other Dating Sim games I've played, like TokiMemo.

Time for another TALES FROM THE TABLE~~
This isn't as epic and dramatic as my last one, but it's a fun little anecdote

DM: And the woman gives you a treasure map.
Me: Ooooh~
DM: To treasure in... a sunken ship.
Me: I grab the treasure map and rip it in two.
Friend (just getting back from the bathroom): Hey, what'd I miss?
Me: We got a treasure map.
DM: And BP tore it up.
Friend: WHAT?! Why?!
Me: It led to a sunken ship.
Friend: Oh. ...I go and rip up the map too.

(...Our characters have not had good experiences with sunken ships.)

Hey you stole my thing

Also hahaha xD that's kinda priceless. Shame I'd have loved to explore a new dungeon. What happened with sunken ships in the past?

So, I got Jisoo's Good Ending in Dandelion. I kept hearing how getting the Good Endings is really, really difficult... it sort of was? I had to reload a few times, to get his heartpoints up just past the limit, or I'd get Heejung's default Bad Ending instead. Can't say it was overall a 'good' ending. I also kept a savefile, where I didn't max out his heartpoints and still got the good ending.

Turns out, you need to do something SUPER SPECIFIC very early on, to get Jisoo's Bad Ending. Meaning, I'd need to start an entire new playthrough for it. :ron: (Because of this, I think getting the bad ending is MORE difficult)

Fine. I'll likely LP the game next, so whatever.

Ah mending...only used it once to infuriate the GM.

Our warlock cast some horrible spell that had trapped a bunch of bad guys in a horrible eldritch zone where they couldn't escape easily and took constant damage.

Fight was still on so my turn came round
I figure its pretty much in the bag and so use my action to cast mending on this sick smoke pipe we looted earlier.

Warlock takes his turn after me, he starts smoking and blowing amazing shapes from it.

The GM seethes with hatred at how lightly we are taking his combat while his goons die from horrible tentacle death.

Ah, the joys of naming your character and it being mentioned in-game.

So, playing through Valkyria Chronicles and the apparent big bad showed up and wants to fight. Ok, no problem, I'll just deploy my harem troops and we'll-WHAT DO YOU MEAN ONE OF HIS LANCERS CAN DESTROY THE EDELWEISS IN ONE HIT?
Game is still fun, though.

Sure is...just a shame the end of the game is ruined by a huge amount of idiot ball being passed around.

I don't really do stupid/immature things like that. If I only get to name one character, I name them after myself, if there's multiple characters I get to name, I give their names a theme. For instance, when I tried to play Final Fantasy VII, I named the characters after Ace Attorney characters. I named Cloud "Phoenix", since he's the main character and has spiked hair, I named Barret "Godot", since he's the closest thing to black I could think of in the Ace Attorney series, I named Tifa "Maya", because I thought that her and cloud were lovers at first and I'm a Phoenix x Maya shipper, and I named Aerith "Mia", since they both die. I didn't get much farther than that, due to me losing interest, as I don't like turn based RPGS unless they have some sort of action element that adds more to the gameplay than just choosing options from a menu.
