Yeah, that Laverre Flare member seems to appear post-game only, from what I read.
Inverse Battle guy? Where was that one?

Route 18

But you have to fight him to get it, he gives multiple items as prizes, and you can only fight him once a day

You could also grind for one with Super Training

I have a question. I wanna get a 3DS XL (not the new one). A used one would be 150€.
Doesn't matter to me, majority of my consoles are used and I have had no major difficulties.
But I saw that my stores have a Zelda-themed one. New, which would be 200€... I love Zelda, but 200€...? Think it'd be worth it?

If it comes with a game downloaded on it then yes. Otherwise I'd pass

It's new, so I don't think it would. Far as I saw, it's just a 3DS XL with a Zelda (I'm sorry, a - cough - Hyrule Warriors) design. It might, though, not sure. I'd have to check.

Nah what I mean is, a lot of these special edition models often are released to sponsor a game. As such many of them come with the game coded in brand new. A couple of monster hunter games did that and I think Fire Emblem awakening did as well with their special models of 3ds.

I got the Windwaker WiiU and it came with a download code for the game with it.

That's the kinda thing I mean.

Speaking of Hyrule Warriors are they ever bringing the 3ds story to the WiiU?

Nope

And most places wipe the system data on pre-owned consoles so even if it originally came with a game it's probably not there anymore

After a year or so of not playing it, I popped Theatrhythm: Curtain Call in again.
I also checked its DLC, cause I heard some Chrono Trigger music came out and wanted to see if there was anything that tickled my fancy. I didn't get any Chrono Trigger music in the end, but I saw MORE Romancing Saga music, including the final confrontation against the Four Noble Demons in 3! Oh, wow, even Seiken Densetsu 3 and Secret of Mana music! (Especially weird for western players because Seiken Densetsu 3 NEVER was released outside of Japan - the only Mana game to have this happen to it - but has a somewhat well-known fan translation)

I kept going, saw more FF music I like and-OMG, THEY HAD MUSIC FROM LIVE A LIVE! That is AWESOME!!
I got Megalomania, the BGM for when you fight the bosses in the scenario! I might get the other one, too, cause the music in that game is great! I dunno if they still do DLC for it, but I would love to have some of Cube's scenario's music in there. It was the least fight-oriented one, but it was so interesting.
Okay, the background for the BMS songs is REALLY spoilery of a major thing in the game, but... well, I guess if you don't know the context, you don't really notice the spoiler of it.

But still! Live a Live music! Another game never released in the west.
Oooh, I would love those games to be remade or something.

Time for Season 2 of...

TALES FROM THE TABLE

Spoiler: Tightened for posterity
So it's time for a brand new campaign, having finished Princes of the Apocalypse we're moving onto a more socialish campaign with Curse of Strahd. A vampirey-dracula-y more horror based setting.

We're cruising through Waterdeep when we encounter a pair of young siblings, Rose and Thorn, who tell us there is a monster in their house. Rolling our eyes we go into investigate their house.

The house is quite a nice one for the town and we take a look around, seems fancy and in good enough condition but we hear a noise from upstairs. The kids told us they had a brother upstairs and since the parents weren't answering our calls we decided to investigate. Rolling through the house we soon find everything is not as planned. The access to the upper levels of the house is guarded by none other than a walking animated suit of armour. We're soon sorely reminded that we aren't the level 13 adventurers of the previous campaign as an incredibly incompetent battle plays out where no one can hit anyone.

All the same we win eventually and continue to the higher levels of the house. At this point it's clear we're on some other kind of plane or world as everything turned grey and dusty for a lived-in house. I checked the balcony and the house had suddenly become surrounded by an impenetrable fog. I attempted to fly out into it and it started to suck the life from me - much to the hilarity of the other players.

We continued to explore until we found the room of the two children who had recruited us to help...along with their bones lying in the middle of the room. After our cleric tried to sanctify the bones the two children showed up, now clearly ghosts and explained that they had been trapped in this room and had not been the ones to recruit us to investigate the house. Seems whatever dark force ruled this place had also lured us here. After a little discussion the children revealed they had been locked in here by their parents who went to try and contain a monster in the basement. We ask the children if they could escape and in response...they tried to possess our Paladin and Witchhunter. Both of whom passed their test forcing them out leaving us with one pouty little girl ghost and one little boy ghost bawling his eyes out. I feel sorry for them so I explain we could use a guide and that we're all probably their only way out. I get possessed by the cowardly little boy and the Witch hunter takes the pouty little girl before we leave the room.

We work our way down to the basement using the secret passages revealed by the ghost kids, finding a couple of other corpses and a letter from one "Count Strahd" taunting the missing parents as minor cultists with a stillborn demon (presumably the missing brother we've been unable to find). All the same the basement appears to be a dark dungeon. We find crypts for the entire family, which sets off the little kid in my head being all terrified. We eventually make our way through to some abomination made of refuse in some kind of cult pit surrounded by chanting.

Our monk eats some unfortunate damage in the fight including a critical and goes down but fortunately between myself and the powerful cleric we dish out enough damage to end the fight immediately after he goes down. Some quick heals later and the ghost children tell us they are free before leaving us of their control. Good deed done we make to get out of our house.

Unfortunately when we return to the main lobby...we find the place filled with horrible poisonous smoke as the GM declares that the house is trying to kill us. The doorways are filled with rapidly slicing scythes and the poisonous smoke is doing damage each turn to us. It's a bit scrappy but with some damage and some healing from our Cleric we barrel through the exit and collapse through the door.

Except instead of being in the comforting city of Waterdeep we find ourselves on the dirt road in some unknown country path god knows where in the world. I have a brief moment to lament the loss of my trusty mule and cart Rodney which I had left back in Waterdeep before the session ends.

Spoiler: The Team
Our team:
Gabriel Mercy (Me) - Winged Tiefling, Mastermind Rogue, Guild Merchant
Yes the name is tacky but apparently Tieflings ARE tacky...seriously all the naming conventions are like that. Built myself to be more charismatic than most rogues as I was told the campaign would be more social in nature. My stat rolls...weren't great and as a result I'm pretty squishy. The Mastermind Feature lets me use the help action (make someone roll two dice on an attack/skill check) as a bonus action and within 30 ft instead of 5 ft. Plus y'know...I can fly being a winged demon dude.

Durokon Fairguys - Dwarf Life Cleric, Priest of Soon
Apparently pretty handsome as is befitting of a Priest of what is basically the God of Beauty. Has a very glittery beard and immaculate hair.

Sebastian Braebann: Witch Hunter Half Orc
So our GM allowed a custom class in here, the Witch Hunter one is pretty fitting to the setting considering it's about hunting monsters. Seems mostly based around cutting yourself to bestow various buffs upon your weapon in a tone reminiscent of a Dark Knight in Final Fantasy.

Waxiros Bhhlartir(unspellable name): A Dragonborne Paladin with the Oath of Vengeance.
Fancies himself the "Batman" basically and talks with a voice befitting of one. Oath of Vengeance gives him a bit of a dark tone for Paladins but he's no Oathbreaker.

Racknor: Tall Human Monk on the Path of Shadow.
Basically a ninja with some neat powers to go with it. I like the Monk class and hope to see cool things from this...like disappearing into shadow and teleporting in between shadows...should be pretty handy in a horror/vampire themed campaign.

Hmmm... see, I REALLY feel like playing X-2 again. I still have my Japanese PS2 X-2 copy, but... well, my PS2 has that thing where it won't play a disc for very long before stopping and freezing the game. And I do not want to get the localized HD remaster, because it doesn't have Dual Audio.
Now, I don't mind Hedy Buress as Yuna too much. She did a decent job - it's just that James Arnold Taylor as Tidus infuriates me (at least Masakazu had the excuse that it was his debut role and he did improve later on) AND I much prefer, say, Real Emotion and 1000 Words in Japanese. Including the videos of it. (Not much of a difference in Real Emotion but 1000 Words' Japanese video is vastly different from the English one - also, Koda Kumi DID sing an English version of 1000 Words! Why did they need some other woman singing the English one with altered lyrics?)

Uh, rant aside.
I'm thinking if it would be worth to get the PS3 HD Remaster imported... I admit, I don't like the idea of replaying X all that much (mostly cause I'm sure there are trophies for unlocking all the weapons and... um, only way I ever got Tidus' weapon was in the Japanese PS2 version, where I made use of a glitch in the Chocobo Race. Dunno if that remains in the PS3 Japanese version), but if it seems cheaper to get both of them, rather than getting X-2 on the Vita, then BUYING a Vita itself AND a memory card for it... I might do it.

She drove me crazy in FFX (apparently she was placing more effort into mouth syncing than actual acting) but I did enjoy her a lot more in X-2.

At least the laughing scene will always be better than the Japanese version. (That's not saying much, but...)

Because English adaptations are a good thing. I don't mind "English versions" but if you listen to them lyrically, they tend to be seven kinds of awkward, even if they are technically "grammatically correct."

I always loved how bad the laughing scene was in the JP version. Tidus sounding like a crow just cracks me up.

Maybe I'm the odd one on this here, but I've never had too much trouble doing the Chocobo Race for Tidus's sigil or whatever it is. At most, takes me half an hour. Granted, it's still very annoying. The only one I've never done is Lulu's, but for me, it's just patience problems and I'm not a fan of the idea of one mistake costing you a ton of time. At least Lulu sucks during post game stuff anyway, so it never mattered to me.

I was more talking about the voice acting in X and X-2, in general. I think I can still tolerate English Auron and maybe still Wakka, but the latter not for very long.

Quote:

True. Well, at least she tried to lipsynch. Rather than James Arnold Taylor's line of "I wanted to see Yuna's statue... togetherwithYuna."
Ah, yes. She did improve in X-2. And she had the amazingly iconic line: "I don't like your plan. It sucks."

Quote:
At least the laughing scene will always be better than the Japanese version. (That's not saying much, but...)

It's an atrocious scene, regardless of version. Though it makes more sense in Japanese, but... still. Atrocious.
AND I heard you still can't skip scenes in X's remaster... :ron:

Quote:

Um, if I may link you to Koda Kumi singing her English 1000 Words. Granted, there is a noticeable accent, but most of the time, I can understand her pretty well - and the translated lines are close to the English adaptation. I just don't see why they HAD to alter the video sequence of 1000 Words. The entire point of the scene was that Lenne's image took over Yuna. Not that she stood alongside her.
It seemed like a dumb alteration. (And I hated to learn that the International PS2 version went the English voices + Japanese text way... why not give options)

I just don't like the racing.
Lulu's isn't that difficult, just horribly, horribly tedious. But I usually kept that until much later in the game, when I had a No Encounter weapon equipped. One less thing to worry about. Now WAKKA's was annoying... Blitzball... constant... Blitzball... god forbid you wanted the AUROCH REEL! I had to use that sucky team the entire time...

Tedium is the reason I never bothered to tackle Lulu's. Wakka's has a lot of tedium as well, but I didn't mind playing Blitzball as much as some others. And if I lose time in Wakka's from a loss, it's a lot more minimal than if I lose time with Lulu's. I never said I liked Tidus's either. In fact, I hate it, but I just never had too much difficulty with it myself.

I agree with your point on this too Cat. I feel that it is very stupid on Square's part not to include a skip button for the cutscenes on the remastered version. I mean, they even went to add in the original OST in the PS4 version, I don't see why they would overlook adding a skip feature. Even though the game isn't my favorite, I really enjoy the gameplay and when I want to go back to replay the game, I'd prefer the option to skip cutscenes myself.

What I find so ironic about the English voice acting too is that in the PS2 version, the direction was taken so that they match the lip syncs, but in the remastered versions, their English voices are no longer synced to the lip movements of the characters, honestly making it more awkward in my opinion.

I also laugh at the aspect ratio of the HD version when the characters are boarding the boat on Kilika to go to Luca. If you watch them, they all merge into one big glop of flesh before the scene blacks out. I get why that happens as that was offscreen on the PS2 version so they didn't need to worry about character placement offscreen, but it surprises me this was overlooked in the HD ports. I saw it when I played the Vita and PS4 versions and it was on a playthrough I watched over the PS3 version.

From what I understand, in order to unlock the Auroch Reel for Wakka in the Blitzball Prize List, which is his strongest Overdrive, you need to use the Auroch team for Blitzball. I don't know if it's true, I never really bothered unlocking it. They just suck. Getting his weapon was easier, since you simply had to win, I think, 5 games.

No you are mixing it up with Aurochs Spirit - a unique blitzball move for Wakka that you win in tournaments. You could use any team composition to win the prizes but Aurochs Spirit as a technique gave Wakka the combined Shoot stats of the other original Auroch members.

Also the original Aurochs ain't so bad once they have levelled a bit. Jassu is impressively fast for a non al-bhed and Keepa weirdly develops the best Shoot stat in the game.

I kinda loved blitzball.

My strat for Blitzball was to just recruit Brother and use him and Tidus. They pretty much sweep the competition.

Yeah Brother is an OP monster. You wanna hire him and keep him on the backbench to avoid others from scouting him.

Of course Wakka works for 1 gil a game so he's great.

Because English adaptations are a good thing. I don't mind "English versions" but if you listen to them lyrically, they tend to be seven kinds of awkward, even if they are technically "grammatically correct."

Oh, I've heard both English versions and still think the English adaption was a good idea. Nothing against Koda Kumi, she's a fine singer, but the version sung by Jade from Sweetbox sounds cleaner and is more grammatically consistent.

Changing the video sequence for the English adaptation sounds weird though. I'm guessing they did it to accommodate the change in lyrics, but even so, it seems unnecessary.

In the HD remaster, both the chocobo racing and lightning dodging minigames were turned into Those Two Achievements. Even worse, there is also a trophy that can be earned only by acquiring all the Celestial Weapons, sigils, and crests; and powering them all up.

I knew it! I fucking knew it! ARGH!!
I'm not so pissed to learn about the lightning dodging being a Trophy - far from it, I don't mind doing that. Annoying, but not obnoxious. But the Chocobo Racing? Oh, and those MOTHER FUDGING BUTTERFLIES!? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!! :tigrebw:

Well getting a platinum does usually signify you've "mastered" the game so

Also don't get a Vita just for X-2

I could see if you wanted like P4G or Danganronpa but X-2?

plz

One could consider buying a PSTV instead of a Vita, as they can be dirt-cheap (I got mine for about 30 euro), though not all Vita games are compatible for use on PSTV, so you need to check up on that (and games that are compatible in one region might not be compatible in other regions).

Pfft! Considering my overall stance on P4G, known on this forum, I wouldn't do that. And given that DR on the Vita has nothing in it that I haven't already hated on the PSP version, I have even less reason to get it. And no, I honestly don't care about School Mode or the chance of everyone surviving. The only two characters I tolerated survived, anyway.

I'm probably gonna import the PS3 version. Regioncode free and cheap... ish. 45~46€, from what I've seen.

Now, I'll look up all the rest of the Trophies... god, I hope Penance is not one of them... I watched someone defeating it in 35 minutes. And by 'watched' I mean I watched the first few minutes, then went to other tabs and did other stuff, popping in now and then to see if the sounds were the same actions I had seen previously.

When will videogame developers learn that making overpowered optional bosses that can only be defeated if you, yourself, are max overpowered is NOT fun?
It's just... tedious. (What a fitting name for a game involving a guy named Tidus!)

Hey, why is X-2's HD remaster on the vita cheaper than on other consoles...? :eh?:

Afaik X and X-2 are only sold separately on the vita. So for the PS3/4 version, you're getting both X and X-2, whereas for the Vita you might only be getting X-2.

And speaking of FFX, I just got the airship, and just tried to start getting the celestial weapons, and... screw that chocobo race. I read every single guide/tip I could find, watched a dozen videos, and still couldn't get it after an hour and a half. i think i'm just going to give up on every sidequest and get this stupid game over with and go back to net high cuz that game is awesome

Feels awesome once you ace the chocobo race though. Makes Caladbog worth having because it takes actually effort to obtain.

I know when I bought FFX for the Vita, it came bundled with a digital download code for FFX-2. At the time when I bought it, it wasn't sold separately, they only had those bundles. I find it odd though if they are selling them separate now, considering that it still comes as a bundle on the PS3 and PS4.

As said, only way I even managed it on my Japanese PS2 version was cause of a glitch. Get stuck on the turn, then wait until time almost runs out. Then move and get hit by a bird JUST as the time runs out and you need to redo the race. The getting hit by a bird thing then led to the birds just flying through me in the next race - easy less-than-0:00:00 time.
Unfortunately, that only worked on the Japanese version, since the glitch was fixed in the localized one.

Well, when I looked, the X-2 on Vita would have a code for LR for Yuna's outfit... which wouldn't help me, since I got a code for it off of someone for it already, but I could give it to someone else.
