Althea didn't have any answers.
No coherent ones, anyways.
She set the remote device thing on her podium and just started crying. Wailing, I guess. She ripped off her bandages and mask and began banging them against her own head. Her coat was already staining with tears and snot.
It wasn't dignified, nor pretty to look at. It was like seeing a very young child in a teenager's body lashing out.
Eventually, she seemed to run out of energy. Her mask was bent and beat at several points, with a few red marks on her forehead to show where it had been.
"Grandpa..." she sniffed. "I want my grandpa..."

Taylor chewed his lip, looking at Althea with what seemed to be pity. All of them just wanted to go home, after all. After a pause, he huffed and looked back down, shaking his head as well. "Well, I... I suppose it's obvious, but I want to bring Rose back." Despite his icy demeanor, his voice cracked a bit.

He said nothing after that, mainly because he wasn't sure what to say.

Kyoya wanted to respond to the murderer with his usual belligerence and intolerance. But for some reason he found himself unable to. Perhaps it was surviving yet another trial where he was on the chopping block. Perhaps it was knowing that somehow Rose could come back. But he had no energy to hate her at the present moment.

Nana rushed over to take the communicator, worried about what might happen if they left it any longer. She took a few moments to figure out how it worked, but through a bit of lucky trial and error the small screen lit up, showing a view of the inside of the Nexus room. Eve managed to set it up so that a projection of the display showed up on the large screens around the room too, so everyone else could see.

"Rose! Are you okay?" Nana cried, seeing the state Rose was in. The Perfumer was slumped on the floor, legs bleeding and broken, and was clearly in a lot of pain.

"N-Nana? What's going on?" Rose yelled, turning towards the mirror and seeing Nana staring anxiously through.

"There's... there's no time to explain, sorry! You need to get out of there, there's a trap in the room that's going to be sprung soon! S-someone's trying to kill you!"

"Ah-ah-ah, can't do that!" Eve said cheerily. "If Rose leaves the room then this trial won't even happen! Rose will forget this conversation and no-one will think there's been a murder. Then I don't even know what'll happen... My bet's on spacetime rupturing and the universe exploding, but other theories are available."

Nana turned to Eve in shock. "What? Why didn't you say so sooner? Wh-what... what'll happen to Rose then?"

"Nana, it's fine. I think I've got it," Rose said, gritting her teeth and pulling herself towards the mirror. "Now that you've mentioned a trap, I can see the holes in the walls all around me... They cover the whole room. Almost. But there's one spot in this room the spears won't reach." Saying this, Rose drew right up close to the mirror, her face magnified all around the room. "I bet whoever built this place didn't want their precious Nexus damaged!" The image on screen suddenly blurred and span as the mirror was toppled over, and just a few seconds later there was a brief flash of spears shooting out towards the screen before the feed went dark.

"We've gotta wait a little longer until the teleporter recharges!" Eve said cheerfully. "So how about we pass the time with a fun execution? Post-trial tradition!"

"What?" Evelyn exclaimed. "If Rose is alive, then there was no murder to begin with! You can't execute Althie!"

"Hrm... I guess you're right..." Eve conceded dejectedly. "You can all go home, guys," she called out, and the students were presented with a brief view on the large screens of a collection of uncanny plague doctors walking away from an operating table in disappointment. "But come on, it's not like we can just let this end with nothing at all! Think of all the viewer complaints we'd get! So you'll be glad to know I thought up an alternative while you were all bickering during the trial. I've prepared a very special punishment for our non-murdering friend!"

Spoiler: The Curse of Knowing

Catching everyone by surprise, a metal claw shot out from behind Eve's podium to grab Althea and hold her in place. A second arm then emerged from the ceiling of the room, with a strange emitter-like attachment on the end of it that was pointed right at Althea's head.

"Remember this thing? Well, probably not, its pretty shy and likes to work from the shadows. This is one of the devices that was giving you nightmares back in the jungle!" Eve said, posing to indicate it. "But I figured, hey, dreams aren't the only information I can beam into your heads. Althea, you're a Early Modern Period Medicine Scholar, right?"

"...I'm a Plague Doctor..." Althea replied quietly, hanging limp inside the claw's grip.

"All you strive for is acquiring information about your chosen field, just like any other scholar," Eve continued, ignoring her. "But this is 'early modern period medicine' we're talking about! That stuff's in the past! We know all there is to know about it already, if you look hard enough. So why not cut to the chase and just shove all that knowledge into your head right here and now and save all the effort?"

That caught Althea's attention. She looked up and stared at Eve with an unusually desperate expression. "I... I want to know. Please, I need to know. Please..."

Hearing this, Eve grinned, and pushed the button to get it to start.

Immediately, the room was filled with dazzling lights and screaming, the mental burden clearly too much to bear for Althea. However, Eve didn't let up, and even started to up the rate of information transfer. Holographic images of all kinds were shooting out from the emitter and into Althea's head, from plants and flasks of chemicals to anatomical diagrams and depictions of trepanning. As it sped up the holograms became a blur of light, and Althea writhed as though caught in a torrent of water, twisting and lurching against the cold, unrelenting metal restraints.

Yet just as suddenly as it had started the display was complete, leaving the students with after-image negatives in their eyes and laboured breathing in their ears. Yet despite the torment being over, Althea looked as though she was experiencing something much worse in her own head, staring off into nothing in horror.

"Miss Rose!" Nana dashed into the Nexus Room, weaving through the spears stuck all through the floor until she reached Rose's unconscious form. "Miss Rose?" she called again as she shook her gently. Once she saw the other girl was still breathing, she sighed loudly and pulled her into a tight hug. "Oh thank god you're alright I was so so scared I mean I guess you're not exactly alright but you're alive and that's really really good and everything's going to be okay now and and um you probably can't hear me so I don't know who I'm talking to but that's okay too!"

She raised her head and turned it back to the room entrance. "U-um, help? Does anyone still have the medical stuff?"

Marshall stares at Eve with indignation, glancing nervously at Althea, "What?! This isn't fair! What's even the point! You..."

He silently fumes for a few seconds, tears welling in his eyes, "Althea? Hey doc, what's going on?"

Hearing Nana ask for tools, Marshall snaps out of his anger and fear for a second enough to nod at her, "I can go get you the stuff, assuming it's where it was."

He leaves and comes back with the supplies for Nana shortly thereafter, "I can help out, okay? Let me know what's going on."
