Right now I'm reading a collection of short detective stories by Raymond Chandler.
I'm only really reading the ones with the classic first person narration. There's something exceptionally charming about the first person narrative to me recently. I blame Hotel Dusk.

Yes, I'm serious. Everyone in the class so disliked reading the book that people sneak out of class just to advoid reading it. And it didn't help that the teacher stop ever 10 lines to explain stuff to the class even if we understood it.

XD. That reminds me of last year when my teacher assigned us some book about how to be really successful in life or something. It wasn't even a novel. <_< People hated the book so much she told us we didn't have to read it a week later.
Gosh, though... It's been a while since a read a book last. Like, a few months, since October or November. My teacher told me she wanted me personally to read "Angels of Darkeness" (I think that's the title) by Caleb Carr. It looked like a good book, but I was reading something else at the time, and then when I finished, I was just to embarrassed to start reading that... and I haven't read since. V_V
For school, I'm reading To Kill a Mockingbird! :D I remember when I first joined, people were asking that one guy Atticus if that's where he got his name from and stuff... As far as the book goes, I've read less than a chapter, and it seems like another southern novel to me. >.<

It's... not very good.
Why does everyone hate Eldest? Sure it is a heck of a lot like Empire Strikes Back, but it still has enough original ideas to not be a complete and total Star Wars knock-off. Besides, anyone remember learning about the Hero's Journey in High School English? Doubt it. But if you do, you might know that pretty much all stories have the same format.

I thought that book was boring when I started reading it in 8th grade, but I really got into it after some chapters.

Oh, sorry, it's not a complete Star Wars knock-off because there are dragons in it.
To aid in my explanation of why the Eragon series is lame, I enlisted the help of a few good friends from another forum.
What is this describing?
There may have been more than that, but it's been a while since I've made fun of Paolini and Eragon, so my memory is foggy.

I do realize that this was a piece written by the dude as a kid, and that his parents owned a publishing company and passed it off as a true piece of literature, but still. I think that most kids write like this, and that this guy receives way too much credit for doing something that the average teenager can do if they have the patience for it. The fame of the book is basically just because his parents were vain enough to publish it.
I'm not saying that people aren't allowed to enjoy the series, but I find it absurd that it's become this loved and well known when it's Star Wars with dragons. And don't even give me that Hero's Journey excuse, because that has such a wide range of possibility that it's not an excuse to entirely rip off someone's film.

I just finished that about two weeks ago in English class. We had to make a film about it. XD It was really fun, and totally cheesey. But a few of them were actually somewhat good.
I can see why some people thought it was good, but I'm not really enjoying it.
I loved that book. I had to read it the summer before my Freshmen year. That and "The Autobiography of Ms. Jane Pittman." That book was AWFUL. It was so boring. And to top it all off, Ms. Pittman wasn't even real. Someone wrote a super boring book about someone that didn't even exist. Pissed me off, it did.
