Fan-friggin'-tastic work, Gerk. I hope this makes for a better RP experience for everyone involved. I was really hoping someone would address the lack of work put into posts at times.

It's not difficult to reach the minimum, no, not at all, but having to create additional abstract conditions (such as length of time between posts, refreshing descriptions) that one has to consider that will affect the very content that one intends to produce is something else altogether. It's just a little too much to think about.

I suggest that the guidelines for expanding content in one's post ought to be more constructive. Give people something to work with. For example, suggest finding a part of the environment that hasn't been described yet.

That is definitely the down side to this.
People really don't want to write that much, and feel pressured to do so...
I have split emotion about this, but I do want to see more descriptions used, but I don't want to see poeple leave!

I'm just going to say that as someone who has a hard time putting words together that this really isn't as hard as it seems at first. It takes some getting used to but it is doable!

I've said it once and I will say it again.

If you can't conform to 50+ words for at least 90% of your posts, you need to rethink Board RPing. Keep it to IM RPs, in the latter case.

I'll do it, sure.

I can easily strech it, but I can't strech a simple question, after the scene was set up. Without godmodding >_>

Ya. Dialogue between 2 people might be tough. Even if the scene could be expanded upon, I don't want to just have my charecter say "Yes they are" then cut off into some description of the scene.

Though outside of dialogue like that I probably won't have a problem.

What's the rule now? 50 words or a paragraph?

Well i'm not gonna be getting into this RP anytime soon (i was thinking about it). When it comes to thinking up stuff like that i have trouble :meekins: . Especially if it was something that i could only think of a brief sentence to respond to. I'll stick with smiley comics :edgy:

Well, I'm a writer, and may type alot when I'm on a roll, but I'm new to forum based role playing- I normally do table top, so its all pretty new and weird for me. Please be nice to me if my post are too short or not descriptive enough. I'm a little lost on how online RPing works still, but I'll do my best to learn if people tell me what I'm doing wrong :)

If that's ok :payne:

One idea i've had in the back of my head since last year is the "Ace Attorney roasts", where all of the other characters do a roast of a PW or AJ character (friars club or comedy central style). And the speakers take turns ranting on Phoenix Wright, and the pthers in attendence. The problem is some of the posts would HAVE to be 1 liners.

And the first victim would be :phoenix:

I think most of the people in my RP ignore atleast 1 of those new rules each- some two. I make sure all my posts are long unless out of character. It's just dull otherwise

I wish more people would actually go here and read the rules, but instead one of our roleplays is plagued with a godmodder that won't leave... The story has been dragged far from it's original concept and we're all being pulled along for the ride...
Can't do much though. All I did was kindly ask them to read over the rules.

Anyways, just thought I ought to be a good Lawyer Wannabe and post here. :odoroki:

Just a heads-up, everyone. I've been placed in charge of the RP section. The current rules still hold. If there are any problems in any of your RPs, please alert me. If you've reported the offense already, then there's no need for a PM, but if it's not something that can be reported, then just talk to me about it. If there's some question you have, ask me.

Pardon the double post, but I've added in a little bit about out-of-character chatting. It's not a serious problem at the moment, but I do find it a bit annoying when people waste posts and thread space by striking up little conversations that contribute nothing to the RP they're in. It's one thing when you're trying to clear something up that you can't clear up in-character, but please save the chitchat for private messages, okay? It saves me a little trouble when I'm keeping an eye out for spam and also helps keep the RP on-track.

NEEECCCRROOOOOO!!!!

But seriously I bring it up because I think we need to crackdown on the word-limit to it.

At the time of posting in the most recent RP, the three latest posts have under 12 with the fewest having 7. Frankly it reads silly and uninteresting which is a shame as the concept seemed alright.
Though these posts read like a primary school Biff Chip and Kipper book.

Now I know many of us are good posters who provide enriching content to an RP with decent-length posts.
But in the light of the old Forum's revival I think the rules have been overlooked, and maybe we should redirect some people to the practice RP topic so we can enrich everyone's roleplay experience which can suffer without proper content and length.

Hum, I can relate to your feelings, Pierre.

Though I'm sure the current RPs have a general lack of writing, I'll risk saying that it's because the involved have more fun developing the story than actually writing it out perfectly. I can relate to that (although I have even more fun when the story being told is actually well-written out too). I even believe that most of the people that play using one or two sentences can do way more than that, if they feel like it.

Granted, whenever an RP is created here, it HAS to abide to the paragraph rule, or minimum words rule, that is present here in this thread.

So yeah, I agree with you. We need to reinforce its influence.

It's not a just a matter of it being fun when it detracts from the experience of the others.
For example someone is busy writing a rule-abiding post with length and detail and finds out that by the time they are done, 3 posts have applied at this length:

Jake walked north "Follow me!" he said.
Bob nodded "Sure thing" he said
Jesse walked after Jake and Bob "Wait up" she said.

Plus in more action-orientated scenes this can leave people out while Jake Jesse and Bob orchestrate an small fight while other characters are left at the sidelines.

Additionally I don't think multiple characters should really count towards the word-limit.
5 characters of 10 words each for one person still doesn't really add much detail or is any different from the old problems.

I've added a new rule, and I'm also gonna be cracking down on Rule 2 again. Please write a decently-sized paragraph; at least 50 words. It's not hard!

I do have to at least point out that small OOC talk should be allowed in the actual RPs. It's better than simply going to the OOC thread and posting a small sentence pertaining to the previous post when you may not understand what it was for a few days later.

You know, like when all of us were going 'GO IRIS!' in the original Ace College Student. XD

Er, that is, an OOC talk with an actual post. Obviously there shouldn't be any posts in an RP that just has an OOC comment. XD
