I've got the game and I've made it up to Chapter 3 thus far. The game is less like Hotel Dusk and more like Famicom Detective Club Part 2, with a better Examine function then in Phoenix Wright. The character's aren't as diverse as the crew from Hotel Dusk, but they're hardly flat. Hotel Dusk was about people from all over meeting in one place. This game is more about people and events that occur as if it was something that you could easily experience, provided of course you had a pen that could cut holes in time.

I really like the action-reaction-preaction aspect of the writing. Do something here, and it'll cause even B, go in time un-cause event B and unforeseen event C occurs. When you first start playing you aren't instantly attached to any of the characters. So a person could pick up the game, play a bit and then become disinterested. But I've found that's actually an attractive facet. The futher you progress in the game, the more you more naturally learn about your environment and characters and the events gradually become better and better. If this was a book, I'd call it a real page turner.

Graphically the game is amazing. The Pause Menu has a beautiful gear clock interface, the physics/motion they threw in there are spectacular! And when you investigate scenes, instead of using a single image background like in Phoenix Wright, they use several, so when you pan left and right, a brick wall that's closer to you moves slower then the bushes. It's a very simple effect, but one that's impressive to watch.

The game is also littered with movies. I find it both annoying and amazing at the same time. Annoying because they're so often, but amazed because these are very VERY well animated.

Musically, the game reflects the mood of the game. The game isn't artificially animated like Phoenix Wright, nor Epic like Final Fantasy Tactics, so outstanding music would standout poorly. The music sets the mood quite well, and the main theme for time hollow is quite catchy, XD It's also funny to hear when it showed up in an unexpected place.


But I must say, anyone who plays the game should watch the trailer first. It gets the catchy music caught in your head before you start playing the game. And if you're worried about seeing spoilers in the trailer, then let me debunk that. You're going to watch a longer version of the trailer as soon as you start a new game.

I don't know how far I am in the game, but so far I'd recommend it to anyone. But if you plan to get it you should act fast, the gamestop I went to to pick that title up, and Wii Fit for my brother for Christmas, only had one copy that wasn't claimed by a reserve.

^ Beat me to it. I'm not sure how much it's like FDCII, but the feel in general reminds me of Trace Memory a bit. I'm on Ch. 4, done with 3.

They seem to have, plus the videos, a lot of sprites too, which is really nice. I hate games where they get lazy with sprites. The parallax backgrounds are neat as well.

I'd recommend it a lot.

You wanted sprites? You got them. Except my eyes are bugging out from the very inefficient ripper I was using. So I didn't bother to remove duplicates. or even sort through what's in there.

Of Note, the Animations are not GIFs, but more in a sprite sheet form similar to real film, term escapes me at the moment. The Backgrounds are layered. So if you want to use the backgrounds you're going to have to find all the pieces, IE, foreground, midground, and background.

Its good so far, What i really really love, are the awesome Anime/movie like scenes which are just like the ones Level 5 made for professor Layton ^^
Erm... wooster pretty much gave a perfect review, the characters all have freat personalities the music is great, and so is the game play ^^

Ive only had the game since wednesday and im already am on chapter 5 (there are 6 chapters) but it seems as you go on the chapters get longer ?


erm Another detective game that i adore is touch detective, if anyone is wanting to try out another detective game

Ok, so far I like Jake Hunter pretty good. The characters are kinda ugly, and I think the BGM is pretty annoying. It's like three different tracks throughout the entire game. However, the game-play is decent, so I like it.

I agree, I think the rating that Nintendo Power Magazine gave it was good they gave it a 5.0.
There isnt much music the characters are kind of scary looking honestly XD

The only thing i really liked about the game is that it was MUCH more realistic than PW, Like the cases could actually happen in RL which is why i did enjoy it

The title already makes me not buy it. Hotel Dusk had a smart name, but Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles just says "OMFG, DETECTIVE GAME FTW! MYSTARYYYY!!!"
