Excellent work on the wallpaper Vicki.

I would post in more detail on the different topics that've been brought up, but I've just woken up, so I'm too tired to read all of biblo's post, I'm barely coherent enough to write this... I need my coffee...

I love learning about mythology in general. It's fascinating!
I also think it's interesting to learn the reasons for why you went into a particular field of study. I don't have a single reason or life event that led me to Psychology, it was perhaps general life experiences of wanting to understand people. Specifically, their motivations and their understanding of certain situations or rationalizations. There's a bunch of other things but it's a laundry list. O__O;

Late reply is late because of family. Hope everyone had an awesome New Year's.

I do desire to travel, and I'm actually looking at studying abroad in the U.K. for my master's (a year away, God willing).

Mythology is really a fascinating study that I've always felt gets shorted. Most everyone learns about the Greek and Roman myths, but what about the Norse, Celtic, Asian or Assyrian myths? Or the old African folk tales? Most people, unless you seek out the info yourself, tend to know little to nothing about them. Of course, I've got copies of a lot of the Celtic and Norewgian primary texts sitting on my shelf, so I tend to be a nerd about this. ^.^

I think most people go into a particular field of study for multiple reasons, as you did. I've always been interested in myths and lit since I was a kid, but I never wanted to do anything in it until I got to JC. It's funny how things work out like that.

Biblio: It's just the sniffles and an itchy throat. Nothing serious, but quite annoying. I should be fine in a day or two, I just feel stuffy if anything. I hope your cold clears up very soon as well - get better!

"Happy new year! How did your day go yesterday in the restaurant and such?"
Thank you, you too. :)
It wasn't bad at all, actually... I think people ran out of money from Christmas or something because take-out orders stopped coming in at 7:30 (the usual time is 8pm or so). The wait was never more than 20 minutes (a "busy" day is when the waiting time is a half hour to forty minutes). The take out orders got a little crazy but luckily people were understanding of the long wait.. (40 minutes to pick up orders, yikes!)

I don't currently have the time to reply to your entire post but just random notes:
That's cool that your parents worked at Microsoft! :D Did you get any free stuff?
I've taken child psych before; it's quite interesting!
"..but sometimes when they get older they get confused when they realize it isn't as easy as that, that you can't just say you're going to be everything and you automatically are." Agreed.

Percei: Thanks!! :) Haha, hope you got your coffee.

GDM: No problemo. Glad you like it :D

Jenna: I love asian mythology!! It doesn't get enough love, for sure. ;___;
I haven't heard much about the others you've mentioned.. I'll have to add that to my ever-growing list of things to do.

Don't worry about it. I hope you had an awesome new year's too!

Oh, it's that kind of cold. Ouch. =( Still, get better soon. And thanks for the well-wishes. Luckily I believe it's already getting better, so that's good =)

Wow! That's a popular restaurant you have there =D At least it stopped early.

I don't currently have the time to reply to your entire post but just random notes:
That's cool that your parents worked at Microsoft! :D Did you get any free stuff?
Yeah. I used to live in Washington, and in some areas of Seattle it was nearly impossible to see a family that didn't have at least one parent working at Microsoft ^^ Free stuff...hmmm, well my stepdad got a lot of shirts, and sometimes he would bring home these little backpacks or something...and I guess when we were little we did get a lot of free t-shirts. Oh, but the biggest 'free thing' we ever got was when the xBox 360 came out--my stepdad worked there and helped with its design, and so even though he had already left Microsoft a few months ago, some of his friends brought over an xBox 360.
...He then proceeded to get four more, because he's a total technology geek. So we now have quite a few. ^^ I think he also got discounts on video games. So I guess xBox was the subsidiary with the most freebies =)

I've taken child psych before; it's quite interesting!
My sister took what was supposed to be child psychology last year, but it ended up being more of a...all-ages psychology class. But it does sound interesting to me. At the school I went to until sixth grade, our principal had a Ph.D in child psychology, and she was always the smartest person I knew =)

In other news, right now my sister is about to begin hosting a tea party that I'm attending for her sake. The somewhat odd part is, this party is the brainchild of my older sister. :yuusaku: Oh, well.

Yeah, it's a shame that academics just tend to focus on classical myth. Personally I think they're the least interesting set of myths, really. I mean the Celtic, Assyrian and Norse myths were practically the precursors to rock 'n roll (all the focus was on sex, alcohol (and feasting) and fighting), and the Asian mythology is really just beautiful. The African folktales are pretty fun short reads but there are some of them that are definitely pretty creepy.

If you ever decide to look into it, I'd recommend the Time Life mythology series. It gives a good overview of the different mythologies, and it's a good place to start. I have both the Celtic and Norse myth books for reference. ^.^

My New Year's was kind of dull really. It was me and my cousins sitting around playing Risk and watching the Twilight Zone marathon on Sci Fi. I mean, I had a good time, but it wasn't nearly as fun as Xmas was.

Native American myths are pretty interesting as well, but they are often not covered in academia either. One of my American lit. professor's had them on his syllabus, but I think he was the only professor to actually teach them at our school. For Norse, Celtic, and other non Greek or Roman myths it seems you have to go look for sources on your own rather than rely on the education system for them.

To be honest, I only enjoyed Japanese Mythology. Chinese mythology was a little vague and I am clueless about the Korean ones. I know Norse mythology by heart and I know a few myths from Celtic mythology. South American mythology was as hard to find as a copy of Harry Potter or Twilight. I just got some of the necessary basic info from an almanac.

She has a thread on Gaia that's been running since '06, if I'm correct =) Although the number could be wrong...but it's something like that. That's where a lot of her samples on the first page came from.

Ha! Biblio, you should consider signing up for the "How well do you know Vickinator" game show. I'm impressed!

Yes, since January '06 :D
And yup, most of the non-PW samples are from that thread. :B (Mostly tags and abstract things.)

P&M Fan: Yup, but I've never played the entire game. I know a lot of people think it's epic, too. XD

EDIT:
APT: In the GS4 Promo art, Trucy is smack-dab right in front of most of Phoenix's body.. so I hope you understand that I can't extract a full Hobo Phoenix image from it because I would have to essentially redraw him, and that's not part of the job description. Just clearing this up -- it's not really a matter of extraction.. the only parts I can extract is the background and around his edges.. that's about it.

:edgy: Well, I've gone through all of the pages at least twice now...? So, I remember a lot. I swear I'm not a stalkercreep! *hides camera*<---Nah, just kidding ^^ About the camera. I've been making a lot of Mike jokes recently. It's influenced me. (Mike is a stalker. He stalks my stepsister's family because her mom divorced him. So, Ashley and Ashley and I often make Mike jokes, like "Mike makes every family reunion better, because even if he isn't there...he's always watching." Anyways.)

I'd sign up, though. Maybe it's on your pseudo to-do list after Vickinet. :will:

Anyways. Just out of curiosity, completely randomly, have you ever seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog?

If not, do. It's awesome. It's funny. It's online. Woooo. *is in an obsessive phase*

I believe the area in red is enough for a picture. All I wanted was a good closeup of Nick's head.

:hobohodo:

Oh, BTW, can you put APT in big letters in the avatar? Something like your "The Vickinator" in your sig but with a solid font. Something like Arial Black (Bold). However, the APT is on the left side with Nick on the right.

Hi Vicki. I'd like to request a banner please?

Text: Mia Fey - The story (In a swirly, but easy to read font)
Image(s):
First image;http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x52/ToffeeNMallow/Sigmontage.jpg-Can i have all these pictures merged together as a slightly faded background, perhaps a few of them could be at an angle?
Second image: http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x52/ToffeeNMallow/sigmontage2-1.jpg - Can i have Dahlia more faded than the other image like a huge impression in the background and Mia standing out more that all the other images, but not too much. Can i also have Diego, just somewhere, also faded.
Any preferred size?: Erm 20cm x 18cm preferably but whatever's conveniant if you need to make it bigger/smaller.
Color scheme: Different tones of darker colours eg. Brown, Red, Purple. But make sure they go well together whatever you choose.
Extras? (hearts, stars, swirls, etc.): Can i have an ice theme over the top of it?

It's pretty complicated, tell me if there are any promblems but I'm leaving alot of it up your imagination. Whatever you make will be good; I know this from past works you've done.
Thank you in advance!

Happy new year by the way! :maya:

Batdor: Sure thing. Thanks :)

Missile: The only problem I'm seeing is that for the maximum 600x200 signature size, you may have too many images. The three main people are fine, but I may have trouble with the "sigmontage" faded background part. This is just a guess from looking at the images, so if I have issues with it when I get to working on it, I'll let you know. For now, maybe you'll want to consider which images are "essential" and which ones are optional, just in case. :)

EDIT: Oh.. I just realized you wanted a 20x18cm.. so just to clarify, this isn't a signature, right? So you want a large-sized banner, basically? :D

Missile123: I first assumed you wanted a signature, but after realizing you want a large banner, there's no longer an issue with canvas size/too many images. Sorry about the minor confusion! :)

Aliucon: PAH. You are too nice.
I wish it was warmer here. The weather was 50 degrees one day, and then 30 the next with a blizzard. This rapid change in temperature is probably one of the factors that got me sick. >__<;

Nadindi: You are far too nice! I'd give you a hug :)
I really, really appreciate it; your support and kind words mean a lot to me.

Biblio: Larry is the shiz.
Oh.. man, I have so many things to catch up on this break. I have tons of video games to play, books to read (my friend used to work at Random House, the big book publisher, so she knows a lot about new releases), movies to watch... GAAAH.

Don't you love how they hired a real kid to do VOICE ACTING?
"I'm fweeeeee...."

Here's a good one: http://www.audioatrocities.com/games/re ... /clip4.mp3
Resident Evil FTW.

There's also a hilarious one in a Devil May Cry game, but that involves a youtube link. I'll post it later if anyone's interested. ;)

APT: Hahaha, that's funny because my PM inbox is always full >___>; I have to constantly delete messages otherwise I get that silly, "YOUR MESSAGES ARE ON HOLD BECAUSE YOUR INBOX IS FULL" nonsense. :(

Fran: I'm so happy you like it! I drew all those swirls so I'm glad you appreciate the time I put into them. :D

I spent a while on this, just trying to make something decent. Every time I saved a copy, I found a glaring flaw, went back to fix it, saved it again, saw another thing that bothered me, etc. It's a cycle of doom.

You...still have a break?

...Lucky =( I just started school again today. At least finals aren't until the 20-22 or so. More time to study.

Vicki, you have made my crappy day so much better by delivering this wonderful wallpaper. I knew it would be great, but it is even better than I could ever imagine. You exceede my expectations. Thank you so much for making this for me. Here' to hoping that the rest of this week turns out better than today.

Also, I'm sorry my request troubled you so much. I hope it wasn't too bothersome.

Spoiler: Here is what it looks like on my desktop

I hope you get better...if you aren't already...
And believe me when I say that I wish we could exchange temperatures. I can withstand cold places much better than hot ones. ><#

Ouch, I didn't even see that about the temperatures. I'm sorry, Vicki.

(Here it's finally stopped raining and it's back to regular, all-75-all-the-time type weather. Except it was more like 38-45 degrees. :edgy: I didn't know NY could be that volatile...I guess I only went in the summer, though...

Kimmy: Haha, thank you so much for the support. :) I'm happy to help all of you with your signature/avatar needs, all while trying to improve my techniques/style/etc.

Yes, of course you may. :]

Voice crack FTW! Hahaha. Way to ruin the dramatic moment.

Thanks for wishing me well.. the cold is gone, I just have the sniffles now.
And yup, I'm still on break. I'm off from school until the 26th. However, it hasn't felt much like a vacation, considering I have to work almost every day and it's just not happy times..
Normally I'm probably one of the most optimistic people I know so I know that sounds quite odd.
Ahem. Yes, I'm still on break. WOOoo.. eh.

Lunaria: It makes me very happy to know that the wallpaper made you feel better. I guess that's why I'm doing this, ya know? I love to bring smiles to people's faces. :)
That being said, I'm sorry to hear that your day wasn't the greatest. I hope things work out for the rest of the week. If you need someone to talk to about it, I'm right here.

It looks awesome on your desktop -- I appreciate the screenshot. :)

Aliucon: Thank you. :) It seems to be getting more stable..ish. >__>;
I can handle cold weather as long as I'm bundled up in 5 layers. However, the restaurant layout is STUPID in the sense that the counter (where I work at) faces the entrance/door way. So, whenever customers open the door, we (counter people) get a harsh blast of cold air!

I don't wear my winter coat or 5 layers while working at the restaurant because it looks silly. So, I'm left there to freeze. T__T;

You're next on the waiting list, btw. :D
