Photoshop is the general industry standard. It has many possibilities. On the same note, GIMP is free and works fine. I have seen a bunch of amazing work that people have created in GIMP.

I pictured you saying "how have YOU been" in that Brooklyn accent. It was amusing. :)
I'm great as well; nothing to complain about. Lots of schoolwork recently, but I'M A SURVIVOR. *flex*

Sure, my thread's in the sprite section, though it's been dying as of late.

Good, then I don't have to go and buy a hundred pound software for editing if GIMPing is already okay for me!

The Brooklyn accent was heavily implied in the How have YOU been too. XD I have lots of schoolwork too, I have some science modular GCSE's in a couple weeks and I'm feeling the HEAVY pressure. Us two can survive together, can't we Vicki. *teamflex*

Hello Vicki,

I've been a lurker here for a long time, and just decided to join recently. This is quite easily my favorite thread! You have skills. MAD skills. That said, it'd be super awesome if you could please make me a signature and avatar set - I see your work all over the site and can't get over how cool it is. I understand you get a lot of requests and it's a big burden for you, so take your time - I wouldn't be cruel enough to interrupt your daily agenda. I hope I'm being polite...I am certainly trying. I understand that you are occupied with many things. Please, take your time! I am sure that the final product will be awesome! And I hope I'm not being too specific with the instructions...I am sorry, I just have a tendency to be OCD about a lot of things, please forgive me.

I know it sounds absurd,
but please tell me who I am.

Young and old Ema. I'd like the young Ema in the foreground, and the older Ema in the background kinda transparent-like, as if Ema is looking into her future and isn't sure if she likes it or not.

http://www.court-records.net/animation/ema-sad(a).gif in the foreground (young Ema),
http://www.court-records.net/animation4 ... 28a%29.gif (older Ema.)

Any preferred size?: 200x200, maximum CR avatar resolution.

Color scheme: Green (light & dark), white, black. Basically whatever matches Ema.

Extras? (hearts, stars, swirls, etc.): Swirls and splatters of paint. A design inspired by grunge and fractal brush work. Some stars too.

Text (it is long, feel free to cut it down if the need arises, let me know if it does)

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily, joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable, clinical, intellectual, cynical.

Image(s):
Two images of Ema Skye, one young and one old:

Young Ema: http://www.court-records.net/animation/ema-thinking(a).gif
Old Ema: http://www.court-records.net/animation4 ... 28a%29.gif

Any preferred size?: Big enough to cover sufficient space, but not so big that it violates the signature rules.

Color scheme: Same as avatar.

Extras?: Also same as avatar.

I hope that is not too much for you, and again, I am sorry for being so precise. Thank you so much for going out of your way to do this. This is an awesome service and your talent is a huge part of this forum...keep up the awesome job.

Hello everyone!

@Vicki: if you can give me a little longer time, I'll explain myself. I'm sorry I sounded so contradictory there; I realize that now completely  That's what happens when I don't think things through.... XD I'm pretty exhausted right now and typing long, explanations doesn't seem to be a good idea right now... *sigh*

Anyway, pet name? Uh... I used to name my fish Coral :edgy:

Cold52: Sure! Could you do me a favor, though? Could you provide the sprites as separate images? :) It would make it a whole lot easier since I work with the individual components first.

Also, just clarifying: you want green like you have it currently on that image, then black where the darker green is? :)

Nadindi: I'll stop by :D

Oh, good!! I'm glad I had accent *INTUITION*. XD
Good luck with that schoolwork! I've never heard of the GCSEs o__o''
But yes, WE CAN SURVIVE TOGETHER. *"I will survive" starts playing* *disco lights*

I'm so happy to hear that you've seen my work elsewhere and admire my thread. :) It really makes me happy to hear that!! Good to know that my dedication and work has some positive influence, ya know?

Please don't worry about requesting and "adding to the burden" (which it isn't) -- I would love to make something for you!

Freyarule: Oh! You're an artist! :D I love the romantic theme you created with the right picture. Kudos ^__^

Oh, ok! No, it's totally fine, no need to apologize. I just wasn't sure if I just wasn't getting the point. XD;

Hi vicki!

I´m glad you liked the name of my dog! XD
I`m not very sure if I could take seriously a cat named Count Chocula... XD Just kidding.

About the avatar I wanted to ask, I think I`ll have the specifications for tomorrow.
Just wait for me!

Just for fun: What is the question you hate the most? (I`m just copying you Vicki, with the thing of the questions)

For me it is: Did you cut your hair? (Duh! Obviously that`s why I have it shorter! XD)
Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure.

My sprites aren't very good, though of course you can stop by. ^^

GCSE's are the exams we take in England from the ages 14-16, depending on how advanced you are you can take them earlier too. These are important for college, leading to A Levels (16-18) which are important for Uni. It's so complicated here, I hate it. *shudders*

And Gloria Gaynor is win. XD

I had drawn it before, but I decided to color and edit it so that it looked better.

The textures are from masterjinn @ deviantART... I'm not a great graphics maker, so, yeah. ^^;
Annnd it says 'Vicki', not 'Nicki'. The font kinda screws it up but it's still pretty.

Bloom: OH MAN that is ADORABLE!!~ ^___^ Thank you so much, I love it!!
You have great intuition with regards to coloring and texture techniques for lineart. Great job!

Asaki: You're welcome ^^

yuzikichan: Poor fishy. :(

Nadindi: Oh pishposh. Even having the courage to attempt spriting is admirable in my eyes! :]

Ohh, ok. We have something somewhat similar here called the Regents exams. They test us in English, Math, Science.. the basic subjects in middle school. The difference is that they're not so important for college (except for the foreign language one because it would satisfy that requirement).. what's important for college is the SATs.

Yes, oldies music for the win. ;)

Gray Godot: None of the names I listed before are meant to be taken seriously, hahah. Don't worry if you couldn't take a cat named Count Chocula seriously. :B

Sure, no problem~

Question I hate the most: Umm.. Ok, well, I work at a restaurant and I work at the take-out counter so the most annoying question customers ask me is, "is my order ready yet?" If it's your first time asking, I don't mind at all, but some customers ask me that question EVERY 2 MINUTES. I'm very attentive to the orders that come out of the kitchen so when they ask me all the time it's like "T___T';; Please have at least a little confidence in my ability to do my job."
Patience, people. Patience!

That's a funny question for me. People ask me "did you get a haircut?" like three weeks after I get one (and they see me on a regular basis). I just think that's amusing. X3

Cold52: Thanks! I PM'ed you the result. Let me know if you want any changes. :B

Ha! That`s a very annoying thing. About the "did you cut your hair" question, when I cut my hair I want it short but not that short like balled (correct me if wrong) and I wait until the last second to cut it, when it gets long enough to annoy me. So I get all: "you realized just now?"

BTW: I didn`t know you worked at a restaurant! It`s... cool, I guess, I really don`t have a clue about working in restaurants. But anyway good for you. BTW2: What`s the name of the restaurant?

About the avatar I wanted:

I have the details:

Images:
Spoiler:
ImageImage

Details: Nick has to be in the left and behind him Franziska barely visible.

Text: I can`t find something better than:Love it`s the cause of my ruin... Why?
Size: Big enough to understand the letters. XD
Colors:I can`t decide... sorry. But something that suits FrannyXNick.
Effects: your choice.

You could add :by vickinator.

Thanks for reading my request!

EDIT: I just fixed the error of the second image... uff that was too close...
Sorry I`ll be more careful next time.
Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure.

Thanks for stopping by the spriting thread. It's so hard to keep them things alive without spriting daily. XD

We had SATS in Year 2, Year 6 and Year 9. They were just in Science, Maths and English, but our GCSEs are those required ones as well as options. I've taken Graphics, Music, ICT and French. Languages do help with Uni too, especially if you take a gap year in the other country. ^^

Gray Godot: The restaurant is called The Orient. It's an uninspired name ^__^;; It's authentic Chinese food, as well as some of the "Americanized" Chinese food like eggrolls and whatever, to please the people who enjoy that sort of stuff.
It's a family business :B My father is the manager, my older brother is the co-manager/assistant manager.

Sure thing about the avatar! :]

Nadindi: It was no problem at all~ :]
Sounds interesting how our testing formats vary. I've only taken the French exam and don't remember much. I took introductory Chinese last year just because I wanted to learn the simple basics.

You mean eggrolls aren't Chinese? I'm not surprised. Fortune cookies are American constructs too from what I've read.

I hope that your reading and writing is going well. Tomorrow I'm going to start reading Homer's Oddyssey and hopefully I'll have it finished by the week's end. Then it is on to Romeo and Juliet (must first find my copy).

They are.. to a certain extent. Spring rolls are more representative of the authentic Chinese equivalent, I've noticed.
What I'm mostly referring to are the Chinese take-out restaurants. Most of the items on the menu are "Americanized".. stuff that's not really representative of what authentic Chinese food is (whatever that means).

It's like... Chinese fast food. Kind of like how Taco Bell isn't very representative of Mexican cuisine (though I'm really not an expert in Mexican cuisine.)

How many pages is the Odyssey? (depending on your copy)
Good luck with that! And thanks for the luck; this week is more laidback than others because a Wednesday class will be cancelled. :o)

Anyway: Gray Godot, thanks for editing the post. XD The Phoenix picture is adorable!

Ah, yes. This reminds me of the time that, as an optional project, my Spanish teacher said we could eat at an authentic Mexican restaurant and bring in the receipt to receive credit. She then quickly added, "And no, Taco Bell does not count."

I think most Mexican food restaurants don't represent what is actually consumed in Mexico and other Latin American countries. You could probably say that about any ethnic cuisine establishment though. Most Japanese restaurants serve curry and sushi, but those aren't the only things consumed in Japan.

This translation is 381 pages. However, we are not requiring the students to read the whole thing according to the instructions I was given. I think they only have to read the first two books (That is how the sections are divided).

Oh uh, a cancelled class? Now you will be inundated with sig/avatar/wallpaper requests because of your sudden perceived free time. What class was cancelled for the day? I remember once my Shakespeare teacher had to be unexpectadly gone for two class (she had some planned absences in the semester as well for days when she had to go to a conference). She had another English professor that had also taught Shakespeare before take over for those two days. It was nice to see another perspective on the subject.

Uff! Thank God...ot you got the message!

The school systems are all different even if they`re a total mess, sometimes they suit for the routine of the country.
It`s hard to know exactly how are other systems but I suppose it`s not a total waste of time, is it?
Just some time ago in this same topic someone told me about the system used in the U.S but I still can`t remember it. It`s a proof of how forgetfull can I be. :yogi:
Anyway there aren`t many things to say about educational systems.
But right now I`m more concerned cause the next monday I`m starting my classes. :larry:
Well, enough of me.

I just stumbled upon this pic and thought that I should kindly request you to make a wallpaper with it! Since you're doing so fine work I'm sure it will look great!

Text: None
Image(s): http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/5112/gs04.jpg
Any preferred size?: 1280 x 1024, that's my screen's resolution.
Color scheme: The original should stay, although some dark blue put into it (especially for the water) would surely look nice.
Extras? (hearts, stars, swirls, etc.): Add some extra stuff if you think it fits, but really just some. I prefer simple stuff and I mostly want the pic to look great in wallpaper size, so it's simple look mostly shouldn't change. But if you find some interesting yet simple and suitable effects or extras, feel free to add them! I love the sketchy look of the original (keep the drawings like that please!), perhaps that's some inspiration for you ... ?

Thanks in advance, you do awesome work~

YggdrasilsSword: Yes, exactly! Did you end up finding an authentic Mexican restaurant?

Lunaria:
Spoiler:
Yes, you'll never find a restaurant that serves every possible dish consumed in (whatever country). However, the thing that bothers me is what some of these restaurants/takeouts HAVE rather than what they omit.

For example, there's a good amount of Chinese takeouts that have french fries on the menu. I'm sure many of you know about Chinese restaurants that serve sushi (so it's like a Chinese/Japanese fusion), and so on. This combination of foods can cause a great amount of confusion and generalizations. People call our number and attempt to order sushi >__>; Some people have asked us if we have french fries or chicken nuggets. As if there's not enough ignorance about the differences between Chinese and Japanese culture.

Granted, I am not blaming the consumer but instead, I'm a little annoyed by the fact that restaurants/takeout places want to appeal to such a broad audience that they would call themselves "Chinese food" yet serve french fries and KFC-style fried chicken.

It's also a business tactic, and it appeals to a certain demographic, so eh. Whatever floats their little boats.

Oh, ok. Then the translation's not so bad.
I don't have class on Wednesday but there will be a lecture at that time so I'll be going to that. It will be on the definitions of "masculinity" which I find to be a fascinating topic.

I actually would love to get more requests these days.. my workload is quite manageable. :)
The class cancelled is Cultural Memories of U.S. Feminism. We discussed the messages in I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched last class. Fascinating!
I don't have many cancelled classes at all so I don't have substitute professors and such. Usually when class has been cancelled it was because it was a snow day.

Nadindi: Ha, you think your country's system is messed up? How so?

Gray Godot: Aww, good luck with classes! :]
Have you been on break or something?

Asaki: Oh good, I'm glad! Yeah, I was concerned about the text but it's good to know that's how you actually envisioned it. :)
You're welcome.. infinitely. ^__^

Selom: OMG! Thank you; I wasn't expecting a gift at all. T__T; <3
It's actually really good and I see that you're improving with regards to using different fonts and colors!
The MaskDeMasque image behind Ron is a nice effect, too!
I really like it and saved it to my computer. ^^

Perry: Oooh, I like the image as well! Sure thing, I would love to make you a wallpaper. :]

LadyGoggles: Hey!! I still love your mustache idea. XD; What's up?
(Everything's going great, thanks!)

As always you`ve done an excelent job.
And on top of things, in a certain way and without asking... I have a new sig! XD
You`ll never know how grateful I`m, it`s so awesome that I can`t even believe it... do you read minds by the way? Cause It`s just how I pictured it.

I took some time in deviantart to find it XD It was really hard to decide in one specific picture and obviously the same problem with the phoenix picture.

WTF!? Fried chicken and french fries in a chinese restaurant!? WTF were they thinking! In Chile Chinese restaurants only have chinese food and the only thing in the menu that can be considered not from China are the drinks, sodas and juices.

But I thought in the U.S Chinese food was way better than here, but now that I read you... I`m changing my mind.
In here there are a lot of chinese/japanese restaurants who combine both foods (Well at lest they have japanese dishes instead of having only sushi) and that makes some people get confused on what kind of food chinese and japanese restaurants have.

Ah! I forgot you were on that Feminist organization... I hope you`re doing just fine with that business, it`s always important to learn something everyday.

Thanks, I appreciate your concern.
And no, it wasn`t a break, in here holidays are during the end of the year like... the last week of December, January and February and then we start the next year of classes in March.
Obviously in here it`s during those months cause in December, January and February it`s summer.

I`m starting to realize that when I comment something I always say:

-"In here..."
-"Here in Chile..."
-"In Chile..."

There are so many different things between the U.S and the rest of the world that it really surprizes me. Even though Chile is starting to get more globalized (how do you write that?)
they still have a whole way to become different, we still have some bad habits, but it`s not peoples fault... it`s how they were raised.

Well, that`s enough... In the first place I was just here to say "thanks".XD

Bye.
Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure.

@Gray Godot
"Globalized" is the correct term, Gray Godot. Thomas Friedman used it quite often in his book, The World is Flat, which I'm reading for Free Enterprise class.

@Vickinator
Feminism classes!? I wish my classes were so interesting. The state of Louisiana isn't exactly hospitable to such liberal ideas as feminism (It's almost as bad as witchcraft).
Snow days!? I've never had one in my life. The state of Louisiana isn't exactly hospitable to such liberal ideas as snow (It's almost as bad as witchcraft).
Ha, but I jest. Nowadays, witchcraft just gets you a ticket.

Texas isn't much better on any of those fronts.

The Chinese place I usually frequent doesn't have any Americanized foods on it (french fries or KFCesque fried chicken). Some of the buffets I've gone to have them. I've only been to one Chinese restuarant (that was not a buffet) that had sushi. It was more of a Stir fry kind of place, so I don't know if that is a cross cultural concept, or a Chinese only one.

Talking about shows like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie sounds fun from a feminist perspective.

Furuba: For future reference, you can edit previous posts by clicking the "Edit" button on the right side of each of your posts.

Second, are you requesting a signature? (You never quite mentioned what kind of graphic you wanted ^^;)
Thirdly, please use more manners next time (i.e. saying "please" or something similar). This time I'll let it slide, just because I trust you not to be a rude person.

To Lunaria, etc.:
I'll be back soon to reply to the rest of your posts. :)

EDIT: Ok, sorry. >__<;

Perrydotto: Thanks for being so thoughtful and polite :) I'm currently making good progress and creating a water/ripple effect for the Godot image in the water.

Lunaria: You bet.
Ah yes, I know about the french fries, etc. at "Chinese" buffets as well. That's a little more forgiving because buffets want to accommodate a variety of age ranges and types of people. After all, you're paying for "ALL YOU CAN EAT" and I suppose that applies to cross-cultural foods. o__x;

Yes, our analyses of media and such are very interesting. :]

YdddrasilsSword: Feminism isn't even a popular term here in New York if we're talking about a general consensus about the term. Though yes, it's great that we have Women's Studies or Gender Studies at all. Most people, unfortunately, think feminism equates to bra-burning, man-hating, scary, ugly women. >__>; True, radical feminism exists, but we have to stop with the sweeping generalizations, people! Most feminists are liberal, as you've hinted in your statement. Kudos for being knowledgeable!

I find that unfortunate that feminism is as threatening as ideas like witchcraft where you live :( It's a shame that ideals of equality actually offend people, including here.

Gray Godot: You're so welcome :) The "sig" isn't actually finished, so let me know if you ever want to use it as a sig and I'll give you a completed version.

Yes. French fries in a Chinese takeout. >__>;
That's interesting how Chile doesn't have this same trend. Then again, a good amount of Americans are known for their insatiable appetite for fast food and junk. These takeouts are just trying to cater to those type of people.

My class isn't part of my feminist club/organization, it's just a class I'm taking for my major (I'm a double-major). :)

U.S. Chinese food sucks (of the stuff I've had) unless you go to Chinatown or my dad's restaurant. :B If you ever come to New York I'll give you a free gift certificate!! XD

BC: I'm sorry :( Good luck with homework!! You're a trooper!
