Fair enough.

I'm just pointing out an alternate way to do it. You can't have your cake and eat it on this manner. You can either give Pie another number, or you can keep the number and come up with a reason why the numbers are as they are. XD

That's... um, exactly what I'm trying to do, and I'm just explaining why "random numbers" doesn't work for me. There might be some other way to explain it...

Or the other solution, make a reason why Pie could join Interpol before Romein despite being younger, but short of her being a mild super that Interpol called dibs on early, or her otherwise joining under unusual circumstances, I can't imagine why.

I'm gonna think about this some more. Bee's right, we shouldn't get TOO hung up on the numbers, especially when there's other fish to fry. Some things take time to work out.

I got another idea. It's not the best one though.

What if he quit, or was forced out of Interpol for a while? If he came back, there's a good possibility they might give him a new number. As I said, not a brilliant idea, but it's moderately logical XD

Gerkuman, don't you have a script to write?

The Misty Connection
Misty Fey, former master of Kurain and the Fey Main Family, was a renowned superhero in her time, possibly the greatest. As such, a number of villainous forces began to conspire against her...

The most worrisome was the rise of a would-be emperor, Manfred von Karma. Using the reality- and mind-altering Venom created by his Power Perfect, he established a base of operations deep in Antarctica, where lesser humans would have difficulty interfering with him.

But epic lawyer Gregory Edgeworth is no ordinary man! ...What he is, exactly, we haven't worked out yet. But regardless, he and Misty Fey become a thorn in Manfred's side, and he vows to be rid of them. Manfred conspires with the jealous Morgan Fey, Misty's younger sister, to trap them. Misty's source of power are the three Magatama she uses, and Morgan plans on forcing Misty to give them up by disgracing her and forcing her to retire.

In the elaborate plan, Manfred kills Gregory while Misty is forced to watch, unable to help her ally in his time of need. She returns home defeated.

Fall of Justice
Many people take note of Misty's failed adventure, in particular the contemporary Lightning, aka Damon Gant. Damon, feeling that it was Misty's code of honor that prevented her from doing her duty, concocts a plan to recruit supers under his banner and install a new world order where justice and the law could be meted out with the proper force.

When Misty finally retires and disappears from public view, too ashamed to show her face even to her family, the three Magatama she used are divided among the most powerful heirs to the Fey name: her daughters Mia and Maya, and Morgan's youngest, Pearl.

Present Danger
Still driven to do her part, Misty bides her time while living incognito as an artist. Eventually she becomes mentor to Larry Butz, who goes on to become Makoto's high school art teacher. When Misty learns of this, especially Makoto's connection to Manfred von Karma, she becomes determined to aid the young artist hero somehow.

(Perhaps to this end she crafts the Celestial Brush, which contains the power of Fey Spirit Channeling and can be combined with Makoto's Inspiration?)

Wait whut, Antarctica is seriously being considered? As much as it is a PERFECT WASTELAND with PERFECT PENGUINS, I could've sworn that was a joke...

One branch idea off this is that Gregory Edgeworth may have actually been a friend of Gant's, making his death and Misty's failure to save him quite personal. However, Gant does not know who killed Gregory, and sees no reason not to cooperate with Von Karma to some level, a man who also wants the sweet and magical Misty out of the picture.

Then Gant dies. But as we all would do well to remember, death is not the end for any character of a story. In this case, his legacy is quite literal.

Remember this picture?

Spoiler: ZAP
Image

We can pretty much now see this as Dahlia channeling the spirit of Gant and his powers. Bee himself suggested it at the time, drawing it while we were figuring out the nature of Spirit Channeling.

But wait, Gant dies at the end of his Story Arc without knowing who killed Gregory Edgeworth, and so even in death he eagerly helps the bad Feys who are allied with Von Karma. What if he learns the truth of the matter - that it was Von Karma himself who killed Gregory - while he is being channeled? Might he not suddenly force himself free of Dahlia's control? And might he not, in a very sudden change of heart, do what he can to support the heroes?

Meaning he could insist that Pearl, holder of the Blue Magatama, be the one to channel his powers instead, giving her a whole new ability which she can use develop some Essence of Bushido techniques?

Yes, I am seriously suggesting that Pearl gains control of Gant. Let this sink in.

In other news, I've written up the article on the end of SL-6. There's some parts of the actual fighting I'd like to expand in more detail, but I think it's a pretty solid Event article.

One worries you might have a conflict of interest there, pal. Mind I ask what's made you so interested in a 'rival' project? :eh?:

So when I woke up this morning, my mind was already half-awake spinning with SMako thoughts. That's what I get for soaking my brain in it so much yesterday, huh? Two things I remember from my dream-like brainstorming.

- If Luke is a Neutral, and Regina and Max work for him, does that mean we'll get to see Team Berry fighting villains along with heroes? When do we get to see Sadi crush them?

- Are we still going with Viola's fire plant being symbiotic, or at least having some sort of intelligence? If so, we should pick some fancy Italian name for the plant ('Charlie' might seem a little too plain for this) and probably treat it as we do Mime Demon, as an OC.

And now for some art and a bit of scene writing, inspired by mentioning Neil's funeral on The SL-6 Incident.

Spoiler: In Memory
Image

In the weeks to come, Sunset's real name, Neil Marshall, will eventually be released to the public with a large public memorial service for the recent winner of the titles Hero of Heroes. However, it had been his brother Jake's request that the actual funeral for his brother be held quietly, without all the fans and cameras, so all his friends in life could gather close to say goodbye. It will mark the true end of SL-6 as a team, as the four remaining teammates stand together for a final time. Lana's young sister Ema is present for the funeral as well, along with several members of the Blue Badger Corps, most notably Dick Gumshoe and Maggey Byrde. Miles Edgeworth may have found a reason to show up, too, though this is before Holy Trinity turns him into a werewolf.

There's not one among them that doesn't feel sympathy for Jake. The pain of losing his brother can be seen right on his face, as the casket for his dear brother is lowered into the ground. He's gone completely silent for the bulk of the funeral, something that had rarely been heard of either Marshall brother prior, normally warm and social no matter what the situation. It will mark a drastic change for Jake, who will waste no time in the days to come pushing away all his friends and companions. Even now he seems a bit standoffish, despite it being his best chance to truly grieve for his brother.

At the end of the burial service, before the somber group leaves to eat, Bruce Goodman pulls Angel Starr aside to speak with her alone. His white suit is substituted for a black one, for a change, and though the trees cast heavy shadows over them he stands in plain sight. They take a seat at the base of one, with Bruce's hand on her shoulder and Angel's head leaning lightly against his. They talk idly about the weather and the service, an easier subject than the deceased.

Then, Bruce asks, "Can you promise me something? If I died tomorrow-"

Angel stops him. She notes that Neil's death has hit them all hard, made them feel their own mortality, but that's no reason for Bruce to speak as though he's already dead.

He considers this, seeming almost amused by the sentiment, and starts again. "I want you to promise me that if I'm not here for you, you'll get out of this." Realizing he means herodom, Angel is baffled and asks why. "In the years we've worked together, you've put yourself in danger and given so much for this fight, when you're the sort of person we're supposed to be fighting for. You're a queen, not a soldier."

Angel lets his words sink in before making this promise. They stay where they are, now in silence. They share a kiss. By the time they rise to their feet, the rest of the funeral party has already left to eat, and so the two follow to join them.

Within the month following, Bruce Goodman is reported dead.

I think we've decided on the name "Belladonna" for Viola's plant creation. Now to actually design the damn thing!

Speaking of which, what does Dee Vasquez do? From the sounds of it, she's more into the black/shadow magics that we had originally assigned to Viola, especially with the younger woman now focused on herbalism and pyromania. Right now all we have assigned to Dee is the plot-based "contract" wherein she can gain total control over other characters, but what other kinds of things do we want to see her doing?

I was also thinking that Gant's methodology towards other heroes would have to change: first he tries to recruit them under a pseudonym, and if they don't join his cause he secretly organizes for their "removal." As Lightning, he'd definitely have access to hero information networks.

With that out of the way, I'd like to unveil the preliminary designs for Viola's... uh... Witchplant... thing. Still undecided on whether we're naming it "Charley" or "Belladonna." Either way, it is an intelligent, shapeshifting plant organism. While it is emotionally attached to Viola, as she is with all her little darling plants, it is not physically attached to her. As an epiphyte, it merely grows around her, using her body as a framework for its transformations; epiphytes are by definition autotrophic, gathering their own food from sun, water, and soil. The plant's purpose is to protect Viola by forming armor and defensive weapons, so having it sap energy from her would be counterproductive.

It is assumed that while the plant does have some natural resistance to Viola's fire magic, it is not immune to it, and thus she always has at least one hand uncovered and unprotected so she can cast spells with it. As she is able to not only summon, but control fire, Viola can protect against one of her plant armor's greatest weaknesses with ease.

Future versions of the designs may incorporate wood or bark armor. For now, here is a basic "vine" version, in three different color schemes. Note the "core flower" in her hair; the plant remains retracted and dormant and "blooms" when Viola springs into action.
Spoiler: Three color palettes

A note about the plant (which I think should definitely be Belladonna), it's kind of my fault that it's specifically stated that it grows around Viola's body but not into it. Even if it were a symbiotic relationship, something like that gets too close to parasitism for comfort, and I have a very rampant, innate phobia of parasites. I don't know why, and I don't know what such a fear is called, but there are few things that frighten me in this world as much as a tick or a leech.

Anyway, I realize this might be impeding the design idea, and if at any point it's decided that it's really better for the plant to root into her or something, you can, erm, just ignore me and go ahead and do it I'll just go over here far away from the creepy conversations about the most vile and unpleasant sort of

....

I'M SORRYYYYYYY! :accordion-head:

*cough* Had to get that out of my system. Oy. Anyway... while I'm still stuck for ideas for Dee and the like, I think I've got an idea for the Interpol numbers now, but I was hoping to run it by Bee before sharing it in the thread. And, well, Bee's not around yet.

So, in the meantime, please enjoy Shippings of Super Makoto, an article I wrote up last night. Please look it over, I don't want to forget any!

Okay, having spoken it over with Bee, I think the role of Interpol in this story is getting more clearly defined... and boy oh boy, it is not what you would expect it to be.

The idea started with the ID numbers. I was considering something Bee suggested, of having the agency reuse numbers. The logical problem with this, however, is that one of the most important uses of these ID numbers would be for internal records. If a dead agent and a living agent share the same number, there could be confusion.

However, I considered this, and I was struck with an idea based on some other discussions held in the PChat...

Terry Fawles and Valerie Hawthorne were both in Interpol. Terry's ID number was IPXX314118 (inspired by the novel Frankenstein, first published January 1st, 1818, but this can be changed if anyone has a better suggestion) and Valerie's ID number was IPXX314159. Romein LeTouse was shortly after, IPXX314206. Check CR's timeline, this works fairly nicely with their birthdates.

However, Terry and Valerie were working on something outside of Interpol, conspiring independently. The details of this are uncertain, but the outcomes are clear - Valerie was killed, and Interpol wanted the death covered up. This was a fairly simple process, since they employ hundreds of agents distributed all over the world, and few would notice her absence. Terry, for both his crime and to ensure his silence, was locked up within Interpol itself. Romein, who had been deployed on multiple missions with Valerie, was one of the few who was given any details about her death, enough to keep him from wondering but not enough to involve him.

But covering up a death is one thing, and covering up a life is another. Valerie's name and information appeared all through the files and reports of Interpol's information, and records showed that an agent with that number was still in their service. So, they edited all their records to remove any mention of Valerie, and when enlisting the new agent Pie LaMode, they gave her Valerie's old number. Pie herself has no idea of this; as far as she knows, she's the first IPXX314159.

But why was Valerie's death covered up? We're still working on this, and Dahlia and the Borignia Incident could both be involved, but right now it seems as though part of it was her knowing too much, discovering that she was being played as a pawn by the higher-ups of Interpol.

Here's the tricky part... according to Wikipedia, "In some works of fiction, Interpol officers are seen conducting investigations in member countries. However, this is a highly fictionalized version of the operations of Interpol. Its main role is the passing on of information, not actual law enforcement." Well, we can fictionalize that all we want, we've got superheroes running around. But Interpol deals a lot in information... just like... say, Bluecorp?

That's right. Interpol is under control of Redd White. He also has a group known as the BlueCorps working outside Interpol for him, such as April May. This is why Manfred von Karma treats him as such a powerful ally, for Redd White is rich with vital information. And suddenly, the fact that Interpol is attempting to keep Borginia contained seems very sinister...

But there is one hitch to this part of the idea that we're not sure about: Should Redd White be directly controlling Interpol? Or should he keep his throne to the BlueCorps, and instead control Interpol indirectly through its head, Jean Armstrong? What do you think, guys?

Hmm...this idea looks fine but it conflicts with some things:

1) The Destruction of Kurain- According to what we have right now for Kurain's destruction, this might not work well.
Right now what we have is this: Dahlia went to Borginia, killed Mia and went back to Kurain Village with Iris to hide out there in secret. In the current set in stone regiment Interpol knew Dahlia was behind the incident, but framed Diego Armando in order to make the public feel more secure. After Diego was exiled they began to search for Dahlia.

Eventually, about a year after the incident, Dahlia and Iris (with help from mommy Morgan) destroyed Kurain and killed many acolytes. The reason for this was to fake Dahlia's death, so that Interpol would get off their backs.

But if Interpol is lead by Redd White (I personally like the idea of making it ran by Armstrong, through Redd White) this can easily change things. Especially if there is an alliance between Manfred, White, Morgan and Gant.

As far as the Borginia Incident goes--well we need to work through it a lot into more details.

Really? Interpol knew, but they kept it to themselves? I admit I haven't really gotten that involved in the discussions of this part of the plot. That alone seems very weird, but even suggests a less than noble Interpol - it's immoral to brand an innocent man a criminal if you know otherwise, especially if it's just so the public feels okay about it. Is it possible to change the reasoning behind the Destruction of Kurain, or would removing that keystone alter the event too drastically?

If that's the case, my immediate thoughts... without changing what we have now, this still might be able work.

Up to this point, it is implied all the big bads work together... and I even assumed as much for the takedown of Misty, even though the direct connection is with Gant and Morgan. But at what point are we sure Morgan is cooperating with Von Karma's forces? The only connection I can think of up to that point is Mime, who leaves HT/Redd White/Von Karma and goes to Morgan, correct?

... actually, this might all explain itself quite nicely...

Redd White becomes allied with Morgan Fey sometime between the Borginia Incident and the Destruction of Kurain. However, he can't just call off his own men without them questioning why, so the Destruction of Kurain is arranged - which works in Redd White killing part of the Fey family to protect his own hide.

Valerie Hawthorne and Terry Fawles are Interpol Agents on the scene at Kurain during its destruction. However, the two saw something they weren't supposed to... Dahlia Fey retreating from the scene. A conflict ensued in which Dahlia killed Valerie Hawthorne, with Terry Fawles and Redd White both present to see it.

Her death was covered up, lest someone ask by whose hands she fell. Terry Fawles was branded a criminal and locked up like a monster. And as insult to injury, Dahlia took the dead woman's family name as her nom de plume, becoming Dahlia Hawthorne.

... does that work, or am I forgetting something still?

The public is everything :x There are a lot of supers, but it's just like Mafia. The Normal Town will always outnumber every other syndicate of super powered beings. If the Big Bads want to have some control, they have to establish it in the towns people. Besides think of it this way- it helps create propaganda towards the government. A Secret Ops soldier killing off his own team is a big thing, considering human psychology and acceptance towards things bigger than they are is an unspoken pact of trust. You don't hurt us, and we won't go against you.

As far as Mime goes, she comes into working with Morgan after the Borginia Incident. It was during that time that work on The Edge began to start, and that was when she protested against unwilling experimentation.

...actually that leads me to another question; much simpler one I think: Does anyone but Morgan Fey know Mime is actually Mimi Miney? You have to remember, Mimi protested against HT as one of it's workers. If Manfred or Redd is controlling or influencing Holy Trinity, and find out that one of the workers that was arranged to be killed lived, then Mime (or at least her identity as Mimi Miney) could be a threat to Morgan's alliance with the two of them.

Why would they know? Half the point of Mimi being Mime is that she can assume any identity she wants. If Redd were to meet her directly, he'd probably get introduced to Ini Miney.

I was just making sure C:~

Although this makes a problem. Part of Mime was that she would frequently make trouble around the HT staff (specifically Alita) and it's building. This was partly to attempt and destroy them by her own means, in revenge for her sister's death. So if she gets introduced then she can't exactly do that anymore, without Morgan's alliance being endangered.

If Mimi/Mime is a spy, and Morgan's personal spy, then I think it might be best not to have Mimi/Mime introduced to the Big Bads.

Aside from the Mime factor, I don't know why Redd couldn't be in collusion with Morgan beforehand. In or out of Interpol, he would be the one to engineer Mia's death using information manipulation to lure Grossberg's unit in, and then making it look like Diego betrayed them. Morgan just sends in Dahlia for the Magatama while Redd creates the smokescreen.

And I'm sure neither Morgan or Mimi would reveal the truth about Mime. However, Mime may end up knowing a lot of things she didn't before her "death," seeing how she spies on Holy Trinity, which is tied up by Redd's association, and his second-in-command, April May. I can easily see her betraying the Big Bads.

Also, it's nice that we finally have more solid concepts for Dee Vasquez and Viola Cadaverini, but how do we make a story about the various Mafia clans? Which of them would be involved in Big Bad type stuff?

Last call for objections to these Interpol ideas. Please, if you have any problems with anything mentioned about that (especially including an OC), voice it now so we can smooth it out quickly. I don't want tensions to build up over time and then suddenly have it all explode in a dramafest. That was last thread. This thread is going to try to learn from it and avoid those situations!

If there's no problems, though, I'd like to thank you guys for letting me work things out with that. I've been waffling about trying to get my OC into this for a while, and I think this sets a pretty good place for her in the grand scheme of things - not overly important, but not satellite from the story.

If this is settling, let's keep the thread focus on the mafia for a while. There is a lot of potential there... but I don't know how we should use it. Hrm. :eh?:

By the way, I've been going through and adding some photobucket links to character tags, and I noticed we have nothing tagged of Will Powers, either as himself or as the Steel Samurai. So, artists who have been asking what we need: I would like it if someone drew a picture or two of Powers, for the practical reason of setting up External Links for him. Thanks!

I can't say anything about Pie, the OC, until we actually place her as a character within a story arc. (On that note, Lydia is still in the hangar while we sort out the Gavins' origins)

What we have so far with the Mafia mostly concerns the Cadaverini's legacy of witchcraft, which was developed from the original oracular reincarnation concept for Viola. The reincarnation bit seems to have fallen by the wayside as we've developed the witchcraft ideas (though the connection to Diana remains through the mythological background).

What's interesting is that by making the entire clan based around this concept is that it extends beyond Viola herself and includes her family members, particularly her grandfather, Bruto. His part in the grand scheme of things will be important, as it defines the responsibilities that will be eventually passed on to Viola.

One concept draws on Bruto's considerable experience, as he is the oldest character in the timeline, with opportunity to witness all the events within the story thus far (as a side note, the original game timeline places his birth in 1940, a full 86 years before the events of AJ). How much would he know about the villain's schemes? The hero's? Which ones would he be involved in, and why?

Another idea concerns Bruto's potential as a practitioner of magic: collecting or guarding items of power, such as books of arcane knowledge. This would tie in well with Dee's motives: does she seek to gain favor with the Cadaverini in order to have these resources for herself?

Well, considering her part in the story is limited to post-LeTouse, that will probably wait until after we define his part in the story...

By the way, to continue keeping people up to speed, some characters are getting some of their super names now. Celeste Inpax plus suit equals Iron Maiden. Viola Cadaverini plus Charley equals Belladonna. Apollo Justice plus Sparta... still equals Apollo Justice. Um... yeah. I'll do art for someone if they can figure out a good solution to that name problem there.

As far as Bruto is concerned, I had the thought of Bruto being the one who summoned the succubus mother of the Gavins into this world. She had to get here somehow, right? Add a twist of romance into that history, and you have a recipe for bittersweet drama of times past... as well as for delicious crack in the present.

Bruto: You look just like your mother... *sigh*
Sadistress: ಠ_ಠ I BEG YOUR PARDON?

... buuuut if anyone has a less cracktastic idea, I'm all ears. I'd say I've been diving a lot into the backstory and the parentage of character lately, and while the backstory is an important groundwork for the present story, we do need some ideas for the actual adventures of Makoto herself. We know how she can get involved in Mafia business - thanks, Wocky - but there's also the question of why?

Isn't that similar to the Juan joke about Adrian?

I approve of Iron Maiden for Celeste. I wanted to make up a cool super hero type name (kind of like a codename) for her before but Bee said that she didn't need one >:(

Bruto should be a figure in society in itself. A beacon of organized crime fear, that does not completely rely on supernatural means. Sure there is Redd and Interpol, but Redd is more of a big corporate threat. Organized crime is a dangerous thing if you mess with it. Perhaps Bruto and Dee might have Big Bad potential in the future, because of this. As far as supernatural connections go, perhaps he might have some wickan in him too. If we consider Viola's supernatural influence as something that is passed down in genes then Bruto, being the grandfather, could have ultimately passed on recessive wickan traits through his own children. Things like this pass down the generation line, like eye color [/random genetic stuff]

Wait, are you suggesting that Bruto summoned the "Hot Succubus Mom", had quite a bit with fun with her and whatever number of months later, popped out Kristoph and eventually Konrad? This just seems so wrong.

Why does it seems wrong? It lacks flair. That's right, I want to expand upon this idea. Not so much of Bruto getting laid but the whole summoning Gavin's mom concept. I was thinking that perhaps Bruto summons her in hopes of controlling as a tool and using her (in more ways then one :hotti:). However, things don't go according to plan and she easily escapes in the world in search of younger and tastier meat. However, she doesn't to expect to fall in love in her hunt for sustain and she does end up loving the man who turns out to be Kristoph & Konrad father. And because of their mating of a demon and a mortal, the offspring has unstable powers which leads to Sadistress and Rocktra in the Gavin twin's future. Meanwhile, Bruto uses his power over the Mafia to secretly look for her while they conduct all other business at hand without them actually knowing it.

And, of course, things and go anywhere from here. Perhaps to have the Mafia whacking off the Gavin's parents? Which would leaving Kristoph to care for Konrad.

This has the once of the dirtiest posts I ever wrote...

That, um, actually was the idea I had, BP. That Bruto wanted the succubus to himself, but she didn't like him, and escaped his control to go bang a hot German man instead. Though I hadn't thought that he might kill off the parents - the father, at least, killing the succubus might be harder - in revenge.

We're killing parents left and right now!

Also, I had noted that in light of this, Viola's grandmother must have been an extraordinarily beautiful woman, to catch the eye of a man who fell in love with a sex demon.

When I asked, I meant it in more of a Rhetorical question kinda way. Anyway, as for killing off Succubus Mom, I kinda figured (just now) that her love for the Gavin's father is too deep, and she falls into an eternal depression. You know, as a backlash of having a Succubus falling in love, she can never fall out of it. Which leads to her never feeding again and she fades away into an eternal rest. A little on the sappy side but I think it works.

Also, I enjoy the idea of killing of parents. It sets the stage for more detail character backstories without making and introducing new charaters. Also, it satisfies my bloodlust, I mean, it possibly connects characters together that may have never interacted with each before.

I agree about Viola's grandmother unless we make it somehow in a terrible one-night stand experience for Bruto.

Doubtful. He wouldn't treasure Viola so dearly if it were just a one-night stand thing. Viola's grandmother must have been an outstandingly beautiful lady to compete at all with Mrs. Gavin.

...

Speaking of which, we really should name some of these parents, if only so we have a way to refer to them. For example, I think it's pretty much accepted that Daryan's name is Lucrecia (SHARKIROTH!) but in the wiki, his father is listed as "??? Crescend" in the places where Daryan's parents are mentioned. |D

DARYAN'S DAD IS HOJO.

END OF DISCUSSION

-shot-

I think we should only name parents if they are significant to the plot in some way. Like how Daryan's parents were killed by Gant, which Daryan would at a later time discover--causing epic fight with Gant and Daryan.

NUU, HOTTI IS HOJO AND DARYAN IS DEFINITELY NOT THE SON OF HOTTI D:

I was actually thinking, though, that as long as we're going to have a running FFVII gag with this, his father could be named Vincent. As for what powers they had that could lead to a son with mutant hair, I have no idea.

Yeah, that's pretty much the idea. Parents get some development if they're important, and if not, no reason to waste energy thinking about it. Or grandparents, in the case of Viola.

I don't think it's really necessary to throw in the romance subplot there... just my penny.

It would certainly be interesting if there were some kind of animosity between the Cadaverini and the succubus in question, though. Perhaps she might've inspired her children to become lawyers to counteract the crime families she despised so much?

Also, you all realize that "Mrs Gavin" has the potential to be larger than Sadistress... not that I'm complaining...

Necessary, maybe not, but it adds a certain extra level of intrigue to it, I think - remember, one of the most memorable things about the Trojan War was that it all began over the love of Helen.

And I agree wholeheartedly with having it impact the present Cadaverini and Gavin families, and having it turn the Gavins against this crime family and, perhaps, the mafia as a whole. On the other side of the fence, it might play a large role in Bruto's current view of demons in general - a view painted heavily with the bitterness of a proud man rejected - and could be easily passed on to his granddaughter.

As for Dee, she seems to be more 'branch family', the Morgan of the family, and one who would ignore what she sees as petty rivalries in order to gain her own true power. Maybe she successfully brings a new demon into the world as an assistant? Weren't we looking for a place for Joe Darke...?

By the way, a simple explanation for why the Gavin father was able to claim the succubus that rejected Bruto: Bruto, proud man as he is, insisted that he fully control the infernal woman, but Momma Gavin refused to be dominated. Therefore, Poppa Gavin must have fully submitted to her control, which she much more eagerly accepted.

And Sadi definitely takes after their mother. :garyuu:

Succubi aren't exactly known for their petite chest sizes after all... :hotti:

While I do agree with the concept of having Mama Gavin inspiring her children to become lawyers to counteract the crime families, it kinda leave something loose-ended to me. If she's around long enough to do that, then why exactly would Kristoph feel the need to care for Konrad? Or was that idea scrapped?

I don't think we've settled either way. Surprisingly little development has been provided for the history of the Gavins. I think the only ideas were before Konrad was a hero... or am I forgetting something?

We do really need to work on Konrad's role in the story more. Other than his friendship/rivalry with Hairaiser, he's very much unconnected from most of the plot, and by extension Lydia is even more satellite. This Cadaverini thing might be the start of bringing him more into the fold. And Sadi, too, but she was already very heavily established in the scheme of things.

On another note, I think Misty's design is developing nicely. Does anyone have any opinions on her weapon of choice? The Celestial Brush connection was Bee's idea - I gotta say, I love it, though. Plus it gives a cooler inspiration for the name of Misty's Staff than just, y'know, Misty's Staff.

Don't worry about posting off-topic. There's far too much in this project that needs to be covered for us to just stay on-topic most of the time.

Tidbits:
  • Doburoku Ese is now "Drew Ese" to accomodate both the American localization and Makoto's Japanese localization.
  • Viola's wiki page has been started, her supername is Belladonna, and Charley is her plant. Dee and the Cadaverinis have yet to be profiled.
  • Succubus additions have been added to Kristoph's profile, but have yet to be extended to Konrad and any other pages needed... do we want to include "Mrs Gavin" in the wiki?
  • Misty Fey is also setting roots in the wiki.
  • Pie did some voodoo on the wiki sidebar to have it include links to the Paintchat and the forum threads, too. There's also a portal on the Main Page with links to pages that could use some work!
  • External links have been added to most or all character profiles, particularly with Photobucket tag links.

And now an art dump:

Things I noticed:

- Bee is absurdly better at designing weapons than I am. Looking at how I had Misty holding the Celestial Staff as a sword... um, it looks kind of silly. I'd love to see how the Celestial Staff is reflected in the design of the Celestial Brush, though.

- For some reason, when you're looking at a specific tag on the 'bucket, the background turns white. Still pink in the main view, though. Bzuh? I'm guessing this is Photobucket screwing up their own styles with that big ad banner of horror and doom over the pages? Or...?

- We didn't have a Sandbox. So I made us one. The idea behind a Sandbox is to test out things you aren't sure are gonna work, particularly if you were to try building a complex template of some kind. Feel free to experiment and play with styles, or even just play period. We apologize if anyone knocks your sandcastle down.

Wake up, guys. I know a number of you are working on art, but the more discussion we get on things, the further we can press forward.

So, here's a quick look at the many new articles I added yesterday:

  • Troia Gavin - The Gavin mother is finally named! Troia was spawned from a different discussion, where I picked up from my Italian class that it's a vulgar word for a slut or whore. It sounds like it fits with the genderbent names - Sadistress and Rocktra - and fits her nature nicely. I'm growing very fond of this character very quickly, though I am not entirely sure what she'd be doing at the present time of the storyline. Any ideas?
  • Genderbending - Speaking of, here's an article on the Gavin family power. Does the name work?
  • Artspace and Artjump - Covers Makoto's Paprika-inspired art-travel power. I think if we ever bring back that pocket dimension idea which was in the project long ago, Artspace will be the pocket dimension Makoto hides in.
  • Suvari Corporation - Luke Atmey's company. Did they make other technology I'm not aware of? I know I've seen him piloting a mecha or other giant robot in some pictures. Also, Ema doesn't still work for them, does she?
  • Celestial Brush - Though I had started the Celestial Staff article, I've held off on making the Celestial Brush article because Makoto's arsenal has been left mostly undefined, so when Bee brought it up, I had to do some thinking on how to translate this weapon into something useful for Makoto and solidify her powers a little. I've been thinking about it a lot, and I think this design works well - besides being a regular multi-use weapon, like Misty's Staff, it also expands Makoto's range of abilities by allowing her to work off the canvas. She can draw in the sky! It has its limits, such as the fact that she can only draw quickly to make an image before her lines fade (something she might want some extra practice with), but it can have more direct effects than her normal art, allowing her to 'edit' the world as she would a canvas. Any other thoughts on this? The brush should look somewhat like Misty's staff, but I've had a hard time designing it - anyone else want to take a shot?
  • The Rise of Emperor von Karma - How the hell DID he come to power, anyway? And we really should name his empire...
  • Hazakurain - Would it be correct to say this is where Morgan, Dahlia and Iris now live? Also, what of Bikini? Isn't she technically a Fey...?
  • The Cadaverini Family, The Kitaki Family and Mafia - Aaaand I'll leave off with our current attempted focus in direction, the mafia. Bee and I both really want to turn Plum into a reference to the MAMA - and though he's keeping a bit of distance from the project, Jaws had been playing with a Cooking Mama parody called Killing Mama that I really liked. Chop the fingers! Hide the body! Don't worry, MAMA will fix it! *SHING!*

I can confirm that Bikini is a member of the Branch Family. Her surname probably isn't Fey though, I think she got married in the past, and them something happened (He died, or he ran off)

Here's the whole thing- Bikini might be a Branch family member or just an acolyte who set up Hazakurain. During 3-5 it didn't seem that Misty knew who Bikini was (she had to show her medallion to confirm her identity), even though they were probably close to the same age.

But remember this: Bikini is technically an acolyte nun. Meaning she probably never got married herself, despite her motherly nature. Iris had to hide the fact that she was dating Phoenix (disguised as Dahlia) from Bikini too. So Bikini is most likely an acolyte, not affliated with the Fey family surname (not everyone in Kurain is a Fey- only Main and Branch family members are). If she was part of the Branch family then wouldn't Iris and Misty be aware of it? Not to mention the bad blood in the Branch family, Bikini might have told Misty to gtfo out of Hazakurain.

Just my two cents.

I'll go with WhiteElephant's theory on this. The Fey clan being who they are, they must have a sizable community gathered around them, formed from students, allies, and the like.

Problem with the Cadaverini and Kitaki families is that they seem to be leaning more towards the neutral or good side of the scale. We need more ominous figures, possibly from the Rivales. And where exactly does Dee fit into the Cadaverini network? I don't think she'd be biologically related, at least not directly...
