For my English class, I had an assignment to write a 30 second Rap Battle (don't ask) between Prosecutor William Jennings Bryan and Defense Attorney Clarence Darrow of the Scope's Evolution Vs. Creationism Trial.
Long story short, it wasn't 30 seconds. I kinda overdid it, and it became 3 Pages long (100 lines). and now it's planning on becoming a animated rap, using Phoenix Wright Sprites. Phoenix Wright will play the role of Defense Attorney Darrow, and Edgeworth will naturally be Prosecutor Bryan.
Please give me your comments and suggestions as I go about completing this project.
here's a few suggested topics to discuss:
What's the best Case Maker program I should use to make this rap look right, and make it easy for me to program the script in?
What lines should I add/change?
What other characters should I include?
What should the accompanying Rap Music be (most likely a slow remix of a phoenix wright song)Progress
Rap 1st Draft (Basic Script, this is what I Turned into my class)Rap Final Draft (With more line interchanging, and more lines for other characters like the Judge)
Draft Corrections (so that each line is fluid)
Beat (To match the flow of the rap)
Recording (I'll have 2 of my friends rap the text according to the specific character parts)
Animating (Case Maker)Current Rap Text (Bolded is Clarence Darrow, Defense Attorney, Rapping):
1.This is the Trial for John Thomas Scopes,
2. a man of many dreams, a man of many hopes
3. This man was simply teaching about Evolution,
4. A theory just as true as Earth’s Revolution.5. You might think you’d learn lots from a Galapagos vacation,
6. but the Bible teaches 1000 times more about creation.
7. I’m sorry John Scopes, I don’t mean to belittle,
8. but it’s a guarantee that you aren’t getting an acquittal.
9. You will lose this trial, and that’s a guarantee.
10. We don’t accept evolution down here in Tennessee
11. Winning this trial, that is my ultimate intent
12. Defense, if you please, give your first argument
13. There’s no conflict between Evolution and Creation,
14. The reason by which I will soon give explanation.
15. Both of these ideas can live in harmony.
16. Give the Jury a reason to disagree17. There’s plenty of reasons, I’ll name even two,
18. That God made the Earth, creation believes it’s true.
19. Evolution states that it was a Big Bang,
20. that made the earth, and from it animals sprang.
21. Evolution also states that apes evolved to man,
22. but, Creation has God making them according to his plan.
23. Fine! I’ll admit it, these theories can’t coexist,
24. but what better opportunity for me to insist
25. that your interpretation of the bible is too literal
26. That’s what I intend to prove in this general locale27. You can’t just change what you already said!
28. I’ll give you something else that you can do instead.
29. Just say what you mean, I’ll make you a deal
30. Say exactly what your argument is in an appeal
31. My argument? Let’s see…it’s about the Butler Act…
32. It’s unconstitutional, that is a fact.
33. It was designed to benefit particular religious groups,
34. and that is unfair to those out of the loop
35. Let’s turn our attention to the establishment clause
36. to be neutral with religion for all of America’s laws37. You’re forgetting the real point of this trial
38. argue against me, and you’re in denial
39. this is a legal matter Darrow, don’t be a fool,
40. it’s whether or not Scopes taught evolution in School.
41. Teaching Evolution is morally pernicious
42. it’s cruel and it’s wrong and completely seditious
43. You said it yourself with Leopold-Loeb;
44. The statement you said is what I will probe.
45. You blame evolution for the death of Bobby Franks
46. Evolution was entirely the idea to give thanks
47. Evolution and his death, you made the connection,
48. evolution is evil, this logic is perfection
49. And to your claim of Natural Selection,
50. I yell out one word, and that is OBJECTION!
51. A heretic, last name Darwin, first name Charles;
52. preaching to the world of birds with different skulls
53. Just because your Darwin saw finches with different shapes,
54. doesn’t mean evolution made man evolve from apes.
55. The Bible should not be put into the course of science,
56. Rather than duel to the death, there should be alliance
57. Fighting against this idea is very uncouth,
58. You know there is never a duel with the truth!
59. I’m all out of witnesses, and the Bible’s irrelevant
60. If only there was someone that was very fervent
61. about the Bible and about the Church
62. but where would I find him? where would I search?
63. Williams Jennings Bryan, I have something that’s unplanned.
64. A bishop, a priest, that’s someone I demand,
65. You know a lot about the Bible, if I understand;
66. so you won’t object if I call you to the stand?67. Of course I’ll testify, I am an expert on the bible
68. I’ll let you cross examine me as long as there’s no libel
69. Surely the bible isn’t that hard to decrypt,
70. so how many people lived in ancient Egypt?
71. Was Adam’s rib really what gave Eve her life?
72. And where exactly did Cain get his wife?73. I want you to know that I’m not doing this for the court,
74. this is simply another chance for me to retort.
75. I am not afraid; I can take your inquisition.
76. To deny my faith in God? I won’t give you my submission!
77. What about this rock, ten million years old?
78. The remains of an animal preserved inside its mold.
79. You claim the earth was made in B.C. 4004,
80. but couldn’t the Bible really mean something more?
81. You say that the earth was made in seven days,
82. But it wasn’t till the fourth Earth saw the Sun’s rays
83. So these seven days were each not 24 hours,
84. Earth might have took a million years to be made by God’s powers85. OBJECTION! Your Honor, these questions are misleading!
86. You can’t let this badgering disrupt our preceding.
87. I might not know all about your “magic” science
88. but the Bible is something to which I am in reliance
89. Forget about these arguments, they cause no success,
90. Your Honor, I declare that we all have a recess
91. Teaching Evolution? Where is your evidence?
92. My client hasn’t done so, that’s the claim of the defense.93. My evidence is here, not one witness, but three.
94. His teaching evolution is what all of them agree.
95. This is all a ploy of the ACLU,
96. Trying to get rid of every American taboo.
97. The jury can’t give a verdict of innocent
98. It’s not our duty to make out the act’s judgment
99. This trial all depends on if his teaching has reality,
100. the Jury will of course have to say he is guilty
