(Is this in the right place? :eh?: )

Basically, I'd like to make avatars and signatures. Here are some questions I'd like answered:

1. Can you use MS Paint to make them?
2. If not, are there any programs or websites that you don't need to download and install?
3. If not, what is the easiest program to use?

I hope people help me with this!

Okay, number one... DON'T EVER USE MS PAINT FOR GRAPHICS MAKING :3

It doesn't support layer or brush functions and the quality is abysmal~ I recommend either Photoshop (provided you don't mind paying for it) or GIMP (which I use), an excellent free alternative which does pretty much the same as Photoshop does ^^

Both GIMP and Photoshop are difficult to get used to at first but once you've got the hang of them, you'll wonder how you ever found them hard to use <3

Yes, never use MsPaint for graphics. It's good for sprites, but can't even handle stuff such as transparency, not to mention there are no adjustments for the auto-shading, opacity, etc., and the current auto-shading looks like garbage.

Wooh, rant over.

Follow lots of tutorials~
At some point you're gonna have to download a whole bunch of brushes/textures/patterns/gradients. Filters can only get you so far :3
Oh, and EVERYTHING GOES ON A NEW LAYER. EVERYTHING. FOREVER. EVER.

Good luck~

Paint.NET is quite good as well. There's actually no need to get the "most-awesome-and-best-program-ever" in order to make a great sig. As long as you are creative enough, you can still end up making great signatures.... just don't use MS-Paint.

Another important point: ALWAYS save your sigs as png. and not as jpg.... when saving things in jpg. format, the quality of the picture decreases and your picture ends up getting a bit "grainy".

Oh and that may be just a personal preference of mine but don't add too many sentences and words on your sig. Sometimes "less" is better than "more", at least to me. Same thing goes for colors: there's no need to have all the colors of a rainbow in your sig. Choose a color which seems fitting and that's it.

--------------

Here's a website you might want to check out: http://www.aviary.com/
Not sure if you can make sigs there but you can draw/create digital art and such with the listed online programs on that website...

Anyway! Hoped that helped you a bit (:

I tried to make my first avatar and signature set!

Spoiler: TRIED.

I made the background on one of the things on that website, and then I used MS Paint to add the sprites (I'm a rebel. :gant: )
They're not that bad, but they're not brilliant either.

The set is.... *gasp* REALLY BRILLIANT! Wow, you are better than me.. (When you don't see my signatures/avatars - mh, don't look at this, there are really bad.)

Only one mistake in the signature: The April is not at the frame-dings (heh, I don't know the word..), so her body looks like very cut-off... or so. It's not a BIG mistake, but it's a small mistake.

Anyway, a very good work! You can be proud of yourself ;)
I'm happy to see new avatars/signatures from you. Maybe I'll give a request (:

It's not too bad, but I still have to criticize.

- I would recommend downloading GIMP because you can change layer blending modes, which can turn a good graphic into a great graphic. For example, you could have set the text to 'Overlay', and then duplicated the layer, which would have made it look much nicer :)

- Those purple dots don't really blend in with the background.

- The sprites are cut off at the bottom.

- Once again, you should have used GIMP for adding the sprites. You could have put multiple effects there, such as making the glow.

Hope this helps!

It's so much fun XD Whew.. You can take it, when you want. (:
But yeah, it's really cool.. I try it to make new graphics, but I'm so bad in it, so I leave it alone. :p

The sig is rather nice.. But with (a little bit) pixels in it. Anyway, good work ;)

Found another website you could check, if anyone is still interested anyway.

Here it is: http://www.sumopaint.com/home/

it's a bit less confusing than the other one and actually looks a bit more professional. You can use layers, filters and several other helpful tools as well~

Spoiler: lame example
Image
..not sure if you are able to make signatures with it though.

I found an awesome thing to make a spiral background, but it kept closing when I tried to use it :sadshoe:
