Klavier Gavin sat alone in his office, pondering over his last few cases. ‘Geez,’ he thought ‘I have to find some better friends.’ He looked in the direction of his burnt Borginian guitar. “Damn Forehead… Why…? Why?!”
“Why what?” Ema Skye asked as she walked into the room.
“Fraulein, have you ever been extremely angry at someone when something happened and even if it wasn’t their fault, and you still can’t get over it?” he asked her.
“Yes… in fact, that happens a lot with you…” she replied stiffly.
“Hey, now…”
“What… wait… lemme guess… you have a problem, and you want me to listen to it…”
“Well, kinda…”
“Listen, Gavin… I’m a detective, not a psychiatrist… I have much better things to do than to listen to you babble on about your quarrels with Apollo. All I came to do today is to drop off a report… I’m leaving now…”
“But Fraulein…” Klavier complained. “You know how much I’ve gone though in the past few weeks, I got to see my brother and my best friend get taken away on accounts of murder, and—”
“I said NO, Gavin!” Ema interrupted. She walked out the door and slammed it behind her. “Stupid prosecutor… he thinks he can get everything he wants, just because he’s famous… OH!!!” Ema bumped into someone and sent her papers flying.
“EMA! Are you alright?” asked her sister, Lana. The 38 year old chief prosecutor bent down to help her sister pick up the mess. “I’m sorry I bumped into you, I’m being very ditzy today, and I don’t have a clue as to why.”
“Don’t blame yourself, sis. I’m annoyed with Klavier Gavin at the moment because he’s being a big pain-in-the-butt.”
“I hear ya, sis. He’s been nothing but an arrogant brat since he got here. Perfect for you, I think.” The prosecutor smirked.
“LANA SKYE! WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU!” Ema shoved her sister.
“I speak the truth, Em. You two are perfect for each other.”
“Auuugh!!!” Ema stormed away. She pondered over her situation, and decided to go talk to the wisest person she could think of. “Mr. Wright! I ask for assistance!”
“Detective Ema Skye, I wondered how long it would be before you visited my office again with the intention of speaking with me…” Phoenix sat down on the floor and started meditating.
“What do you mean? I was just here yesterday.”
“For Mr. Justice, I’m assuming… Correct?” the ex-lawyer countered.
“Well… Yes, I did come to drop off some papers for him, but whenever I’m here; you’re welcome to talk to me… It’s not like I forgot what you did for Lana all those years ago…” the detective’s voice trailed off as she remembered what had happened. Her sister’s guilty pleas, Mr. Wright’s insists to continue defending her, SL-9, Chief Gant, and all the other memories came back to her until she was interrupted by Phoenix saying;
“So you wanted to talk to me, Ema?” the female detective gathered her thoughts and told him all that had happened between Klavier Gavin and herself. She then told him that he was the only person she thought she could trust with something like this. Phoenix listened, his eyes closed, deep in thought. She finished and he was silent. After a long pause, he sighed and said; “Ema… the only person you can go to in this situation is not me, but Klavier himself.”
“WHAT?!” Ema shrieked with surprise. “Gavin is the last person I’d want to go to with this.”
“Ema, don’t you see? I think you’re in love with him. It’s not unnatural. Personally, I think the two of you are perfect for each other.”
“TAKE THAT!” Ema shouted as she punched Phoenix in the face. “I am NOT talking to Gavin. You and Lana are wrong. I don’t love him! Mr. Wright, I HATE him!” she started to cry. “No one understands… I think I might love him, but at the same time, I feel a burning hate for him!”
“He loves you, Ema,” said a voice. “He loves you with all his heart. He understands, too” Ema turned around. There stood Klavier Gavin.
“How much did you hear?” she asked.
“All of it. I heard everything, from you talking to your sister, to here. I was worried this would happen, so I followed you.”
“So, you stalked me, just because you were worried that I had fallen in love with you?”
“Yeah, pretty much.” He grinned.
“You’re an idiot, Klavier. But, you’re MY idiot.” She stood up and hugged him. Phoenix smiled. This was the mark of a new era of justice.
