Machi tapped his pencil against the desk. He normally would be listening to Kristina explain nouns, verbs and adjectives, but after what happened last night, he had too much on his mind to care.
Kristina noticed this. ("Hey, is everything okay? You seem distracted today.")
Machi perked his head up. (" Huh? Oh....I'm okay. I was just thinking about something.")
Kristina smiled. ("Okay.")
She went on with her speech, and Machi slunk back again. Kristina couldn't help but notice him.
"Oh no. Your lying..."
Machi started to worry. He knew that when she said that, she was on to something. He started to sweat while she focused her eyes on him.
"Hmm.....There's something that's worrying you.......and it's been worrying you for a long time." Machi felt ready to confess, when Kristina spoke.
"I....I can't put my finger on it, you just seem so all over the place. It must be complicated, though. Your face says it all."
Machi breathed a sigh of relief. "Yeah....it's like that. Nothing big."
Just then Kristina's face lit up.
"I have just the thing to make you feel better."
Suddenly, she grabbed Machi's arm and whirled him down the hall. He tried to protest when she suddenly stopped in front of a door. She took a deep breath, and pushed open the door. Machi realised she had just entered her father's room. He never really saw her father, but in those rare glimpses he did see him, he seemed to be the type of person who didn't appreciate people prying about in his bedroom.
"Mind you, I don't think anybody would, I sure wouldn't." Machi thought.
Suddenly, a white object flew in his direction. He figured it was from Kristina frantically searching through her father's drawers. Machi picked up the white object and inspected it more closely. It seemed to be a scarf of some kind, but it had frilly bits in the middle. Machi had never seen something like this before. He was about to ask Kristina about it, but before he did she groaned and got up.
"I thought there might be some normal clothes in here, but nooooo! My dad just has to be the fancy prosecutor. With that cravat and teas and-"
He couldn't hear the rest as she walked out of the room while saying it, leaving him alone.
He smirked. "She really wants to cheer me up."
He then turned around and saw a desk in the corner of the room. Curious, he went over to it to get a closer look. There where lots of papers and books on it, along with a laptop and a bright bouquet of flowers. Next to the flowers was a statue of a warrior of some sort. In the middle of the desk was a silver teapot and two cups. A picture of Kristina and her father sat next to that. Machi picked it up, looked at it and smiled. When he put it back down he noticed a filing cabinet near the desk. There was writing on the on each of the drawers. Machi leant in to see what they said. "Cases - A-L.". He bent his legs to read the lower ones. "Hm. They all seem to be cases, law cases I guess. Well Kristina did say that he was a prosecutor." He noticed a piece of a paper sticking out from the bottom drawer. Machi carefully pulled out some of it, trying to make out what it said. He made out an A, pulled it some more and saw the full word.
ADOPTION.
Machi didn't know what this word meant. He would of asked Kristina, but he decided that it's best to keep it from her. After all, if she told her father, he could get in serious trouble. He could hear her coming, so he quickly stood back up. She peeked in the doorway.
"Machi! Did I leave you here?" She seemed embarrassed.
Machi smiled. "Yes. You seemed to be in hurry."
Kristina blushed. "Yeah. Waitaminute .....your hair..."
Machi patted his head. "What about it?"
"It's too distinctive, it needs to be more normal-looking. Come. we have work to do." She grabbed Machi's arm and lead him to the bathroom. She put him in front of her then rummaged through the bathroom drawer, later pulling out a comb. "Now hold still...." She tugged at Machi's hair, trying to comb out the fancy arrangements in it.
"OW!" Machi found it very painful.
"Oh, don't be a baby. Goodness, how much mousse does your stylist use? Is that amount even legal? I mean come on!"
That was how it went for another ten minutes, until the doorbell rang.
"Oh, he must be here with the clothes. Wait here for a sec, 'kay?"
Kristina ran out of the bathroom and to the front door. Machi blinked and faced the mirror, inspecting the damage she had done to his hair. He gasped at how flat she had mangaged to get it. He sat there for a moment patting his sore and dramatically flattened head, until he heard a deep voice coming from the hall. Curious, he went to over to see who it was. He saw a man, and it wasn't her father. For one thing, this man was much more casual looking. Instead of a magenta suit, this man wore a grey jacket, with black trackpants. He also wore a light blue beanie, with a badge of some sort of face on it. He hadn't met this man before, but Kristina seemed to be very familar with him. They started to talk, and Machi listened intently.
"Thankyou so much Mr. Wright, I don't know what I'd do without you." Kristina said. Machi realised the man's name was Mr. Wright, the name seeming oddly familar to him.
"Heh, no problem. Say, what where they for again?" Mr. Wright replied.
"My father. He's painting his office and he needs some old clothes."
The man laughed a coarse laugh. "Your father? Painting his office? That's something you don't see everyday."
"Yeah, I know, insane, But it's true. The painters he orginally got weren't exact like he wanted, so he took it into his own hands."
Mr. Wright nodded. "Now that seems more like him."
Kristina pulled up a chair. "Can I get you anything? Coffee? Grape Juice?"
"No thanks. I have to pick Trucy up for the courthouse. She's there with Apollo now."
"Trucy...?" Machi was puzzled.
"Oh yeah, on that big case. Tell them good luck on that."
"Yep. Bye." Mr. Wright waved and walked out the door.
"Bye" Kristina waved back. She waited for a while to check if the coast was clear, then walked back to the bathroom. Machi saw her and quickly darted back.
"Here." She handed him a bag. "Put these on."
Machi opened the bag and found clothes. He pulled out a jacket, and found it was much too big for him.
"Are you sure?" Machi nervously asked.
"Well, it's going to have to do. Now go and put them on. You can use my room." Kristina repiled.
Machi sighed then walked to her room, emerging a few minutes later sporting clothes that were much too big for him. He and kristina shared a quick stare, then burst out laughing. "I must look so stupid!" Machi said, the laughter dying down a short time later.
Kristina smiled.'Sorta'
She checked her watch. 'OH NO!"
She grabbed Machi and raced out the door, not stopping until they reached a shelter of some sort further along her street. Machi grabbed his sore arm and rubbed it.
('You know Kristina, if you really want me to follow you, just ask. I don't think my arm can take it anymore.') he said with frown.
Kristina laughed a nervious laugh.
"Sorry. I'm just excited today.'
Machi was quick to apologise. 'That's okay.'
Suddenly, a bus pulled up to the road in front of them, and Machi realised that she took him to a bus stop.
