Thank you! Chapter seven!

Spoiler: Chapter 7: Court and Mind Battles
Mia walked into the detention center. Maya tagged along, then she would later go home. On the opposite side of the glass sat a pitiful looking man with scars across his face. His eyes were filled with tears. He looked like a lost puppy. Mia sat down in the chair.

“H-hello, Mr. Fawles. My name is Mia Fey. I would like to hear your story.”

“GRAH!!!!!”

“EEK! I’m sorry!”

“I din’t do nuttin’! I kill nobody!”

“You say you didn’t commit this crime?”

“No. I never kill. Never lie.”

“What happened?”

“W-WAAAA!”

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”

“I go to the bridge and leave. Suddenly, police captured me again.”

“Captured again?”

“I escaped.”

Oh boy…

“I was convicted of kidnap and murder. I din’t do it, though! The witness lied. I want to know! Why did she lie?”

He started to cry. Mia’s heart sunk. She felt so bad for him.

“Do you have an attorney, Mr. Fawles?”

“No one take my case.”

“Mr. Fawles… I’ll take your case.”

“Really?!”

“Eek! Yes, yes!”

“Thank you! Thank you so much!”

“You’re welcome.”

* * *

Mia and Maya were sitting in the train station, waiting for Maya’s train to arrive.

“Mia, why’d you take the case?”

“Didn’t you see him, Maya? He was so trusting.”

“True… I’m just wondering how Diego would react.”

“Oh, Maya, give it a rest.”

“Heh heh. I’m sorry, Sis. I’m really going to miss you.”

“I’ll miss you, too, Maya. I’ll see you in a couple of weeks, though.”

“You better let me know what’s going on!”

“I’ll call. I promise.”

“Good.”

The train arrived. The two sisters hugged. The hug managed to squeeze a few tears out of Maya. Mia noticed, and kneeled down. She wiped off some of Maya’s tears with her thumb.

“Shh… Don’t worry… It’ll all be okay.”

“I-I just missed you so much. This visit was so short.”

“I know… two weeks, Maya. I’ll see you in two weeks. I’ll call you every day.”

“Okay, Sis… thank you.”

They hugged again. Then, Maya walked onto the train. She sat down, and waved at Mia, who was visible through the window. Mia waved back. The train departed. Mia sighed. There was no time to be disappointed about Maya’s departure. She had a case to prepare.

* * *

There was a knock on Mia’s office door. Diego walked in before Mia could answer. Of course, he was holding his usual white mug, filled to the brim with steaming black coffee.

“You’re working late, Kitten. Did you get your first case?”

“Yeah. You’re one to talk. Why are you still here?”

“Grossberg and I were discussing a few matters. What’s the case?”

“… Homicide.”

“A homicide as your first case?! Quite bold for a kitten…”

“Okay, could you stop calling me a kitten for a sec?! I’m very busy trying to prepare!”

“Well, sorry!” Diego said sarcastically.

“I didn’t mean to snap… I’m just so stressed out! What am I going to do?! I’m so nervous!”

“Just have a little faith in yourself.”

“That’s easier said than done! I’ve never tried a case before!”

“Is the client innocent?”

“Yes!”

“Where’s the evidence?”

“Well, he said he is, and I believe him.”

“Just like that? You believe him?”

“First of all, you didn’t see this guy. Second, you should always trust your client.”

“This from a newbie…”

“Oh, you’re impossible.”

Diego laughed.

“It’s not funny.”

He shook his head.

“The funny part is you have more faith in your client than you have in yourself.”

Mia paused before replying.

“… It’s pathetic…”

“Don’t stress so much.”

He put his hand on her shoulder. She got butterflies in her stomach. Mia closed her eyes and sighed. She fought back the tears.

“Diego…”

Grossberg looked into the window to see if Mia was still there. He saw Diego with his hand on Mia’s shoulder. Her eyes were closed. Grossberg smiled.

Ah… young love…

* * *

Mia was lying awake in her bed that night. She couldn’t help but feel nervous about her case. What if she lost? Then, poor Mr. Fawles would be wrongly convicted. Then, there was her love life. She couldn’t shake Diego off her mind. Her inner battles started.

Why can I not stop thinking about him?

You like him.

As a friend.

As a boyfriend.

There are other guys out there.

You never met anyone like Diego.

Touché. But, it’s no more than a childish crush.

How can you be so sure?

… I’m not sure at all.

Mia’s conscience could agree on at least one thing, though.

I have to fight in court like that tomorrow…

I simply loved the character interaction in this chapter. Especially the convo between Mia and Diego concerning the trial. The dialogue was very real, flowed well, and was very in-character. Oh yeah, and I think I may have teared up a little during Maya's departure :larry: Yet again, you have given us another great chapter :edgy:

Chapter eight!

Spoiler: Chapter 8: A Cure for Sadness
Mia ran out of the courtroom sobbing. She ran into the defendant’s lobby and plopped down on her stomach on the couch. She didn’t know how she’ll live with herself after what happened.

I can’t try a case ever again.

She couldn’t hold back her tears. Mia didn’t even notice Diego walking into the lobby. He walked over to her and rubbed his hand on her back, hoping to calm her a little. He was slightly successful. Her heart lifted, and she felt more comfortable. She kept sobbing.

“Shh…”

Mia finally looked up at Diego. She felt so embarrassed. Her mascara was smeared. It was hard to tell she was blushing since she was crying.

“I-i-it’s my f-fault. I made Mr. Fawles k-kill himself.”

“Mia… all I saw was a man who believed in the words of a witch.”

“I-if I didn’t press him so much, he wouldn’t have acted on her words.”

“You were just doing your job.”

“Then, I don’t want to have this job anymore. I’m not cut out for this.”

“You’re a great attorney. You just had a client who was brainwashed by the real murderer.”

“Thanks, but what if it happens again?! I don’t want my clients to keep dying!”

“Mia… I don’t think you should go home alone tonight… you’re in no condition to be alone tonight.”

“W-w-who will s-s-stay with m-me?”

“I will. I’ll stay with you tonight. I’m not going to let you be alone tonight.”

Mia paused before answering.

“O-okay…”

“I’ll drive you. May I have your keys?”

He extended his hand out. Mia trusted him. She gave him her keys with a shaky hand. He then extended his other hand out. She took it, stood up, and walked with him hand in hand. She sat in the passenger seat of the car. He drove off. Mia gave him directions to her apartment. When they arrived, she sighed and sat down on her couch. She curled her legs, bringing her knees to her face. Diego’s heart sunk. He hated seeing Mia in this condition. It was eating him up inside. Mia closed her eyes. She had a long day. She managed to see the clock hanging on her wall. It was nine o’clock. She decided to go to bed.

“Diego, you can stay in the room my sister stays in. You’ll fit in the bed. It’s pretty big.”

“Okay.”

“And Diego?”

“Yes?”

“… Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

She changed in her bedroom. Then, she brushed her teeth and wiped off her make-up. Mia went into her bed. Diego walked in.

“Did you need something?”

“Just came in to say good night.”

“O-oh.”

Mia’s heart was beating fast as he walked towards her. He bent down and planted a quick kiss on her forehead. The butterflies appeared in her stomach again.

“Good night, Kitten.”

“Good night, Diego.”

He closed the door behind him as he walked out.

He cares about you.

So? That doesn’t mean anything!

Come on, Mia. He gave you a kiss.

Only on the forehead! I’ve kissed Maya’s forehead plenty of times.

She’s your sister! He isn’t a relative of any sort.

He can’t possibly like me in that way.

Oh yes he can.

Prove it.

He’s staying the night with you, and once again, he gave you a kiss!

He could be staying with me out of pity! Once again, that was only on the forehead!

Why are you trying to hide from the truth?

What truth?

You love him.

No, I don’t.

Oh please. You wanted to kiss him when he kissed your forehead.

He’s attractive…

He’s attracted to you.

M-me?

Mia’s inner battle was driving her insane. She didn’t have anymore fight in herself. She fell asleep.

* * *

“Good morning, Kitten.”

Mia felt the pressure of his lips on her neck.

“D-Diego? What are you doing?”

She rolled over on her side. He was lying next to her. He slid his arm over her waist, pulling her close. He kissed her on the lips. At first, it caught her by surprise, but she started to kiss him back. They broke, and Mia smiled.

“Diego… I’ve been waiting for that.”

“It’s been too long, Kitten.”

Mia kissed him on the lips again, ready for more. She didn’t want it to end. Just when she started to enjoy herself, she woke up and realized it was all a dream.

You wanted evidence, Mia. That dream is solid evidence.

Oh, shut up.

She managed to get out of bed and walk to the spare room Diego stayed in. He wasn’t there, but she saw a note on the bed.

Mia,
I went to the office. Grossberg gave you the day off. I’m going to check on you later. Don’t think about things too much.

P.S.: Check inside your fridge.

She gave the note a confused look as she read the last line. Mia walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. Inside was a box of chocolates. A note was attached.

Chocolate is a cure for sadness.

She smiled. Diego was so thoughtful. She took the box of chocolates, sat on the couch, picked up the phone, and called Maya. She picked up.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Maya. It’s Mia.”

“Sis! You didn’t call last night!”

“I know. It’s just that… I had a rough day yesterday.”

“That’s right! It was your first case. How’d it go?”

Mia bit her lip before answering. She didn’t know if she could get through the whole story. However, she decided to tell Maya anyway. Her sister would find out sooner or later. Mia told her the story, crying a little while doing so. When she was finished, Maya didn’t answer until a couple more seconds passed.

“I’m so sorry, Sis… I feel so terrible.”

“You don’t have to feel bad, Maya.”

“I still wish I was there to comfort you.”

“Well, it’s okay. Diego took care of that.”

“Oooohhhhh, Diego!”

Mia blushed. Her sister knew how to make her blush, even when she was only talking to her on the phone.

“Oh shush…”

“What’d he do?”

“Well, he stayed the night here… and…”

“And what?”

“He kissed me good night… only on the forehead, though!”

“Aww, that’s so cute!”

“He also bought me a box of chocolates.”

“He likes you! I knew it!”

“Oh shush, Maya… he’s going to check on me later.”

“GOOD BYE, RODNEY! HELLO, DIEGO!”

Maya sounded very excited. Mia chuckled.

“Hey! I was never with Rodney!”

“Well, you’re never going to be with him now! … Oops! I have to go train. Sorry!”

“It’s okay. Good bye, Maya. I love you.”

“I love you too, Sis! Bye!”

Mia hung up the phone. She loved talking to Maya. Then, she started eating her chocolates and turned on the television. Diego was right. Chocolate did help with her sadness.

Great follow-up to the Terry Fawles trial. Diego was so gentle and tender towards Mia when she was upset, I think my heart just melted. My favorite part was the dream. Sexy make-out session in bed, the Miego fangirl inside me was very pleased, hehe. I love this story so much ^_^

Mia's inner battle is awesome! I couldn't stop chuckling at times. Somehow I could just imagine it.

Diego is such a sweetie! I think I could feel myself being a little melty in some parts.

Chapter nine!

Spoiler: Chapter 9: Truth or Dare
There was a knock on Mia’s door. She answered it. Diego Armando was standing on the other side. She smiled.

“Hey, Kitten.”

“Hey.”

“May I come in?”

“Of course.”

He cleaned off his shoes on the welcome mat and walked in. Mia shut the door.

“I see you’re comfortable.”

Mia looked down at her pajamas. He laughed. She felt slightly embarrassed and consequently blushed.

“H-hey, at least I brushed my teeth and brushed my hair… staying in my pajamas was pretty much the only thing I didn’t do to get ready for the day.”

“You seem happier today.”

“I just talked to my sister. I still feel guilty, though… but, you know what… I think I’m going to be okay. I still regret what happened and still cry about it, but I’ll be fine in time.”

“That’s the spirit, Kitten. You can’t spend your life bottling everything up, but you can’t spend it fretting over this ordeal, either.”

Mia put her hand on her forehead, moved to the couch, and sat down. Diego followed her and sat down as well.

“I see you found my gift.”

“It helped very much.”

“I’m glad.”

“Thank you for everything, Diego. You were a huge help. I needed you.”

“You’re very much welcome.”

There was an awkward silence. Mia didn’t like it, so she decided to shake things up a little.

“Hey, do you want to play a game?”

“A game?”

“Yeah. I’m still in kind of a childish mood from when my sister stayed over.”

“Oh. Gotcha. Okay, I’ll play along.”

“Okay, what game do you want to play?”

“I don’t know. Have you ever heard of “Coffee Craze”?”

“I should have known you’d know a coffee game… how does it go?”

“Well, it’s a little complicated…”

“Forget it. What about “Truth or Dare”?”

“Hmm… I haven’t played that in a long time.”

“My sister and I would play it all the time.”

“Sure, why not? You go first though.”

“Okay.”

“Truth or dare?”

“Truth.”

“Well, since you never answered my question in the coffee shop, how many of your boyfriends have you kissed?”

“Ugh, and I have to tell you…”

“Yes, you do.”

“… All of them…”

“All four?”

“Yes.”

“You’re not too timid for a kitten, are you?”

“Oh, be quiet. Truth or dare?”

“Dare.”

“I dare you to drink a cup of coffee with cream and sugar in it.”

“That’s a low blow, Kitten.”

“You took the dare.”

“You’re right… I have to fulfill it.”

Mia stood up and brewed Diego a cup of coffee. When it was done brewing, Mia put in some cream and sugar. She stirred it. Diego gave a disgusted face as she stirred the coffee. She laughed.

“It’s not that bad…”

“It’s wrong…”

“Hey, I put cream and sugar in my coffee.”

“You’re a kitten.”

She blushed. Then, she gave him his coffee. He looked at it with a disgusted look again.

“One sip is all you need to fulfill the dare.”

“How can one ruin a cup of black magic like this?”

“Oh, stop complaining and just drink it.”

He closed his eyes and slowly put the mug against his lip. He sipped the coffee.

“Blah…”

“So? How was it?”

“It’s not exactly something I’d like to try again…”

Mia giggled.

“… but it wasn’t awful either.”

“Good.”

“You want the rest?”

“I don’t think I should use the same mug.”

“That’s okay. Just take another one and pour it in.”

“Alright… I haven’t had my coffee yet, anyway.”

She poured the coffee into a different mug. She took the time to examine Diego’s features. His face seemed as if it was sculpted by angels. She grinned. He looked at her. This caused her to blush. She finally finished pouring the coffee and sat back down.

“Okay, there we go!”

“Ready to continue the game?”

“Yes.”

“Truth or dare, Kitten?”

“Hmm… well, I guess I’ll go with dare… since I made you drink that coffee.”

“Fortunately for you, your dare isn’t so medieval.”

“Medieval, you say?”

“Ruining a cup of coffee like that…”

“Give it a rest.”

He laughed.

“Anyway, I believe I ordered one dare please.”

“You want a dare?”

“Yes.”

“Kiss me.”

Thank you, everyone! I bring you... CHAPTER TEN!

Spoiler: Chapter 10: Better Days
“W-what?!”

“Kiss me. You wanted a dare. That’s your dare.”

“Well… um…”

You know you want to, Mia. Just do it!

Um… erm…

I knew I’d be saying this eventually. I told you so!

Shut up. What do I do?!

What do you THINK you should do?

Is there any way out of this?

Are you daft?! Your crush dared you to kiss him!

Maybe I’m dreaming…

You’re not dreaming! Snap out of it and kiss him!

Mia was too busy fighting with herself to notice Diego staring at her. She came back to reality when he started laughing. She gave a quizzical look.

“It seems our kitten is a little shy…”

He was referring to the fact Mia was blushing. She then started to feel it, realizing she was blushing a lot. She slapped his arm.

“Shush. I-I just didn’t expect it.”

“A little unexpected, eh?”

“A little? Try ‘completely.”

He put a hand on her shoulder. Once again, the butterflies came back. Her heart was pounding furiously.

“Mia…”

She looked into his eyes. He suddenly looked sympathetic and sincere.

“I’m not trying to take advantage of you… If that’s what you think…”

She didn’t realize how close she was to him. The two were only centimeters apart on the couch. She had her palms on his chest.

Do it now, Mia!

But…

This is the moment! You saw him! He’s not lying!

Oh dang…

Diego sat there, waiting for a response.

“I realize this is all so sudden… if you don’t feel comfortable, then yo-…”

Mia cut him off by kissing him on the lips. She closed her eyes, and Diego did as well. It was long and delicate. Mia was enjoying every moment. All of her thoughts were completely shut out of her mind. Diego’s arms slid around her waist as they pressed up against the back cushions of the sofa. She put one hand on his cheek. Mia could taste the coffee on his lips, but she didn’t care. Finally, they broke, and Mia caught her breath. Then, the thoughts infiltrated her mind again.

Aren’t you glad you did it?

It feels too good to be true…

But, it is true.

Mia hung her head down. Diego was still holding her. She was still blushing.

“What’s the matter, Kitten?”

She didn’t respond. He lifted up her chin with his thumb and index finger. He could see her blushing. This caused him to chuckle slightly.

“Still shy even after that?”

She nodded somewhat. Mia couldn’t bring herself to say anything because she had no idea what to say. He gave her a small smile.

“You’re a pretty shy kitten… Allow me to try and remedy that.”

Finally, she allowed herself to speak.

“Dieg-…”

He kissed her. This caught her off guard, but she soon started kissing him back. She wrapped her arms around his neck, getting the full sensation of the kiss. She melted into his arms. Mia let out a soft moan. They pulled apart. She leaned her head on his chest.

“If Mr. Grossberg saw that, he’d make some sort of hemorrhoid comment,” Diego stated.

Mia gave a small laugh.

“Please don’t ruin the moment with that image…”

“Okay.”

“I don’t want you to leave…”

“Unfortunately, I have to. I have to get back to work.”

She lifted her head off his chest and looked into his eyes.

“So, what now?”

“You mean between us?”

“Yes.”

“Well, I guess the proper thing for me to do is ask what you are doing Saturday night.”

“To which I would respond I have no plans.”

“In kind, I would ask if you would be interested to go out to dinner on a date.”

Mia smiled.

So, Mia? What now?

I’m not fighting this anymore.

“And I would say I’d love to.”

“So it’s a date.”

“Yep.”

Diego stood up, and Mia stood right after he did. He walked to the door, and Mia followed. He turned around to face her.

“Going back to work tomorrow?”

“I think so.”

He grinned.

“Good. Until then…”

He leaned down and kissed Mia on the cheek.

“Bye, Mia…”

“Bye, Diego…”

With that, he walked out. Mia let out a sigh and sat down on the couch. It was her new favorite place. She closed her eyes, replaying the image of her kissing Diego in her mind. Her heart melted.

This is by far the best day ever.

Then, the phone rang. Mia answered it.

“Hello?”

“I love you, Mia. Will you marry me?”

Mia shook her head.

“That is the WORST imitation of Rodney, Maya.”

Maya laughed.

“Aww, I thought it was pretty good.”

“Think again. How was training?”

“It was okay.”

“Well, that’s not too bad, I guess.”

“Yeah. Hey, Mia?”

“Hmm?”

“You sound happy right now.”

“What’s wrong with that?”

“I mean like REALLY, REALLY happy. You were a little down earlier from that case. Now you seem to be in a really good mood. So, tell me what’s up.”

“Okay, okay. I’m going out Saturday.”

“So?”

“… On a date.”

“Awwwww! With Diego?”

“… Yes…”

“I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!! YOU SOOOO HAVE TO KISS HIM AND SEND ME PICTURES!!!!!!!”

“Weeeeell…”

“What…?”

“Um… about that first part…”

“What? The kissing part? … You already kissed him?!”

Mia paused. She intentionally coughed to answer her question.

“OOOOOOHHHHHH, SIS! OUR LITTLE MIA IS GROWING UP!”

“H-hey! I’m older than you!”

“Heh heh heh! That’s soooooo cute! When are you guys visiting Kurain?”

“I don’t know. Later, I suppose.”

“You better invite him to be with us when I’m there!”

“I will, Maya. I will.”

Maya was right. Mia was extremely happy. She needed such a day after the Terry Fawles trial. Diego and Maya both made everything okay.

OMG, FANTASTIC chapter!! The sexiness of the Miego kiss put a huge smile on my face. God, that was great. And I loved that Maya called immediately after the kiss to do a horrible impression of Rodney XD This chapter flowed very well and I loved everything about it :D

Thank you! Now I present... Chapter ELEVEN!

Spoiler: Chapter 11: Catching a Demon
Mia went into the office the following day in a very cheery mood. She even greeted Rodney. Of course, he took it the wrong way.

“It seems we are making progress on our relationship.”

Mia just rolled her eyes and continued walking to her office. She immediately started to work on organizing case files. She opened one of Diego’s files and noticed a post-it note.

To my kitten-

See me in my office as soon as you get this post-it.

-Diego

Mia stood up and knocked on Diego’s door. He told her to come in, and she obliged.

“Hey.”

“Hey. So, what is it?”

“Ah, yes. I have something to show you.”

He took out a bag with a Q-tip in it. Mia gave it a confused look.

“… And how is this significant?”

“This Q-tip was used to take a sample of the inside of the bottle…”

“What bottle?”

“You don’t remember? The bottle in the middle of that heart-shaped necklace.”

The image of the necklace sent chills down Mia’s spine.

“Oh my…”

“Yes. The poison sample is on this Q-tip. We’ll sink her before she gets the chance to swim.”

Mia grinned. The thought of Dahlia Hawthorne getting what she deserves makes Mia very joyous.

“Thank you, Diego.”

She wrapped her arms around Diego’s neck. He put the sample back on his desk and wrapped his arms around Mia’s waist.

“You’re welcome.”

“I… I really want justice to be served. What that woman… if she could be called such…”

“I know. She’s a demon in disguise.”

“It’s sickening. How could she try to pass herself off as a person? How does she even live with herself?”

“There are some people out there who only care about themselves. They don’t care about who they hurt in the process of their terror. Dahlia Hawthorne happens to be lumped into such a group.”

“I’m kind of glad I met her, though…”

“Glad you met her?! Kitten, she caused you this much pain. Why on Earth would you be glad you met such a horrendous creature?!”

“Because if I didn’t meet her, then I wouldn’t have the opportunity to stop her.”

“It looks like Dahlia Hawthorne has a new rival.”

“That she does. Enough talk about her, though.”

“What do you want to talk about, then?”

“You and me.”

Mia gave him a quick kiss.

“Ah, my favorite topic so far. Good choice.”

“What’s the plan for tomorrow?”

“Ah, ah, ah. That’s cheating.”

“What?”

“I can’t tell you. It’s a surprise.”

“Aww, that’s not very nice.”

“Sorry, but that’s one of my rules.”

“You have rules?”

“Don’t you?”

“Well… I guess I do. I just never thought of it that way.”

“I’m glad I gave you a new perspective.”

“I am too.”

At that point, Mia’s voice was no louder than a murmur. They drew each other into a passionate, everlasting kiss. Mia felt blissful. She belonged right there in Diego’s arms. Then, the unexpected happened. The door opened, but the couple didn’t hear it. They just continued to kiss. In the door frame stood a completely shocked and appalled Rodney.

“MR. GROSSBERG!!! YOUR ASSOCIATES ARE KISSING!”

That’s when Mia and Diego broke. Rodney was giving Mia a dirty look. She put her palm on her chin. Just when she thought it couldn’t get any more awkward, Grossberg came running into Diego’s office. He stood there, surprised to see the two associates standing so close to each other. Mia still had one arm wrapped around Diego’s neck. Diego’s arms remained around Mia’s waist.

“My office. Both of you.”

Mia’s heart sank. She had no idea what Grossberg was going to say. The other associates were peeking out their windows. A couple of them wolf-whistled. Grossberg closed the door after they entered.

“Sit.”

They did as he ordered.

“When did this start?”

“Yesterday, sir,” Mia answered.

“I see.”

“Listen, Mr. Grossberg,” Diego chimed in. Mia’s eyes went wide.

“Yes?”

“Mia is a very compassionate, intelligent, caring person. Granted I’ve only known her for a short amount of time, but… I love her. I really do.”

Mia’s heart melted. She was so touched by Diego’s words. Grossberg nodded.

“I see… Diego, will you please exit? Mia, you stay.”

Nodding, Diego stood up and walked out. He winked at Mia on his way out. Grossberg folded his hands on his desk.

“So?”

“Yes?”

“You’re smitten for Diego?”

“… I’ve been battling myself inside, doubting myself… I didn’t think he’d actually go for someone…”

“Someone…?”

“… Someone like me.”

“Why do you say that?”

“I’m tenacious, kind of nosy, and come from a family of spirit channelers… despite the fact he doesn’t know that part yet.”

“Ah… yes… your mother…”

“… Can we please not discuss that now, sir? I just found out what happened…”

“Oh, you did…”

Mia was silent. Grossberg sighed.

“Well, I can say Diego absolutely loves you. You shouldn’t be questioning yourself. What does your heart say? You should listen to that.”

Mia still said nothing.

“And… er… just make sure to keep it at a minimum around Rodney.”

Mia laughed.

“Okay, sir.”

Grossberg stood up and opened the door.

“You may leave now.”

“Thank you.”

Thats so fucking cute!!!!!!!!! I am now even more in love with Diego. I would happily take the dare. And woulda shot Rodney. But I now has a feeling that the pleasantness is gonna end. Does that mean that Rodney is gonna shoot Diego. Cause I wuold tell exactly where he can shove the gun. :chinami: :godot:

Dear readers,
I apologize sincerely for the hiatus. Of course, there is an excuse. I ran into bad luck. However, two months is too long. I'm sorry. Chapter twelve.

Spoiler: Chapter 12: Repression
“So, I’m curious. Is this where you take all girls for a first date?”

Mia and Diego were sitting across from each other in a club. They served only coffee for a beverage. A jazz band was playing on the stage. Diego stared down at his coffee and laughed.

“Ha…! No, actually. I’ve done movies, dinner at a normal restaurant, picnic… just about anything you can think of off the top of your head.”

“I see. So, why a coffee club?”

“I love the atmosphere in here. I was hoping you’d enjoy it… y’know, the music, the dark lights, all the special coffee blends…”

“Well, I do enjoy it very much. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Kitten.”

Mia was thoroughly enjoying her time with Diego. Beneath all of his smug, he was a very kind, sensitive man. He also had a sense of humor, which Mia found important in guys. A moderato tempo jazz song started playing. Mia bobbed her head to the tune.

“… I like this song.”

Diego grinned in a sly manner and stood up. He extended his hand out.

“May I have this dance, Ms. Fey?”

Mia smiled sheepishly. Her heart melted, but she didn’t want to give it away.

“You may.”

She took his hand and stood up. They moved over to the dance floor. They were in a more formal dance position than the one they were in at the office party. His hand was on her waist, and her hand was on his shoulder. They swayed back and forth. Diego spun her around in an elegant manner. In Mia’s eyes, the date couldn’t get any better. He looked down into her eyes. She kept her gaze into his. Diego gave a small smile.

“I think I figured out my new ringtone.”

“Which would be…?”

“This song… I think it’s my new favorite…”

“Mine too…”

* * *

After dinner at the coffee club, the couple went for a walk in the park. They held hands as they made their way down the path. Then, they spotted a bench and sat down.

“I really enjoyed myself tonight, Diego. Thank you for everything.”

“It’s my pleasure.”

Mia stared down at her lap, questioning herself.

Why… I just want to know why…

Why what?

Why would he go out with me?

Because he loves you… duh.

Why would he love me?

Why WOULDN’T he love you?

Maybe because I’m nosy… maybe because I’m tenacious… maybe because I come from a spirit channeling family.

So what?

“Why?”

“Excuse me, Mia?”

Mia just then realized that she said her thought out loud. She then sighed, knowing she couldn’t come up with something on the spot to cover up her thought. She decided to tell him.

“Why would you go out with a girl like me?” she asked in a soft voice, still staring down at her lap. She couldn’t bring herself to look at him.

“Mia… it’s because I love and care about you… I have feelings for you.”

Just spill it all…

“Why would you have feelings for me?”

“Excuse me?”

“I mean… well, I’m just not the best person out there…”

“No one is perfect, Mia. Humans are not robots, you know. They live, they die, they love, they hate… and yes… they even make mistakes. There isn’t a single person on this planet who hasn’t made a mistake at some point in their life. To me, you are as close to perfection as a person can get.”

This made Mia smile. She looked at him in the eyes.

“Thank you, Diego…”

“You’re welcome.”

“You know… I realize something…”

“That is…?”

“I truly do love you… with all my heart.”

“I love you, too.”

They drew each other into a long, passionate kiss to end the night.

* * *

“How was the date?”

“AMAZING, MAYA! I love him… I really do…”

“Aww, Sis…. I’m gonna cry tears of joy.”

“I should be crying, not you.”

“Don’t cry, Sis…”

“Nah, I won’t. How’s training?”

“It’s okay… y’know, just training. But…”

“Yes?”

“I’m scared.”

“Of what?”

“Being master… I’m not ready.”

“Not yet, at least… you will be.”

“How do you know?”

“Let’s just say a certain memory…”

“S-Sis…?”

“I’ll tell you about it later… I have to sleep now though. Long day. G’night, Maya.”

“Good night, Sis.”

Mia flung herself on her bed and turned the lights off. She lied there, crying herself to sleep in the darkness.

I bring you... chapter thirteen!

Spoiler: Chapter 13: A Mother's Promise
“Kitten, you’ve been staring at my coffee mug for over a minute now. What’s wrong?”

The couple was sitting across from each other in Diego’s office. Mia came to work the following day feeling a weight of guilt and anger on her shoulders. She felt guilty for ending her conversation with Maya so abruptly. The anger was towards herself. She promised herself and Maya that she wouldn’t cry that night. She ended up crying herself to sleep.

“… Mother…”

“Your mother?”

Mia had told Diego a while ago about her spirit channeling family. She explained to Diego the situation with her mother. Diego closed his eyes and thought about the situation in his head.

“I see… I’m sorry to hear that. But, you need to be your strongest right now… Maya is looking for a pillar of strength to lean on at the moment. She’s scared… You have to be her pillar.”

“I know. What’s making me cry is this memory…”

“What memory?”

“My mother told me something before she left.”

-Flashback: Eleven years ago: After DL-6-

Misty Fey sat on her bed, thinking of her options. Little did she know that she was being watched. By her door stood twelve-year-old Mia Fey. In Mia’s hand was her favorite stuffed animal, Lucky. He was a stuffed Golden Retriever dog. A tear trickled down Mia’s cheek as she watched her mother in pain. Mia’s hand slipped on the door and made a squeaking noise. Misty turned to see her daughter with a tear-streaked face. She gave Mia a soft look and opened her arms, indicating a hug. Mia accepted the offer without a second thought. Misty cradled Mia, whispering words of comfort.

“Everything will be okay, darling…”

“B-B-But, Mother, they d-don’t believe in us.”

“Let them think what they want… we know the truth.”

Mia nodded and clutched Lucky tighter.

“Is Maya asleep?” Misty questioned.

“Yes. I gave her some milk and tucked her in.”

“Thank you, dear.”

Misty kissed the top of Mia’s head.

“Mia… I want you to know something…”

“Yes, Mother?”

“If I were to pick anyone to take care of Maya in case something happens to me, you would be the first and only person… the two of you never fight… you two won’t turn out like your Aunt Morgan and me. I know you’ll make the right decisions with Maya. You guys won’t fight over the position of Master… and when the time comes, the rightful heir will be ready… and the other sister won’t harbor any ill will. I am grateful for both of you. I just want you to know… I’ll love you and Maya forever, and both of you will never leave my thoughts… you two will be with me until the day I die.”

“M-Mother…”

Mia started to cry again. This led to Misty comforting her more. Once the sobs subsided, Misty told Mia it was time for bed. She tucked Mia in, kissed her forehead, and said good night.

“… I love you, Mia.”

-Present Day-

Diego kept his eyes on Mia as she choked out the last words in a sob. She continued to weep. Then, Diego decided to go to Mia’s side and cradle her.

“Shh…”

Then, Mia decided she had enough strength to continue.

“T-Those were the last words she ever said to me… I woke up the next morning without a mother and quickly realized what happened.”

“I’m terribly sorry… I had no idea…”

“The people I love leave me… like Terry Fawles… well, I didn’t LOVE him, but I trusted him… my father died, my mother disappeared, my sister only visits me… which is my fault since I left the village so I didn’t have to fight over the position of Master… but, I still miss her so much…”

“I won’t leave you, Kitten…”

He hugged her tighter. This forced her to smile. They both stood up. Mia wrapped her arms around Diego’s neck, and he put his arms around her waist.

“Thank you, Diego…”

I know I can trust you.

Rodney walked past Diego’s office and saw the couple holding each other in their arms. He wrinkled his nose.

He will pay.

* * *

Diego came home with Mia that night. He didn’t want her alone after crying herself to sleep the previous night. The couple stopped at Diego’s house on the way to pick up the things he needed for that night. Then, they entered Mia’s apartment.

“I’m going to change, Diego.”

“Okay, me too.”

After changing, Mia knocked on Diego’s door.

“You may enter, Kitten.”

Mia giggled. She opened the door to find Diego in coffee print flannel pajamas. He held his usual mug in his hand. She laughed.

“Do you ALWAYS have coffee?”

“Of course. Ooohhh…”

Mia gave him a confused look.

“Getting a little cozy, are we?”

He was referring to Mia’s black, satin pajamas. She slapped his arm.

“What’s wrong with being comfortable?”

“Ha…! I’m only teasing.”

“Would you like to watch a movie?”

“Why not?”

Mia picked out a movie and popped it in the DVD player. They sat on her futon. She curled her legs to the side and snuggled up next to Diego. He put his arm around her and pulled her close. Mia didn’t remember the title of the movie, but it was the first one to make her cry. Diego just yawned at every sad part. Mia slapped his arm again.

“Ah…! What was that for?!”

She giggled again.

“Oh, don’t try to be so manly. It’s okay to show your emotions even a little.”

He wrinkled his nose at her.

“I just don’t cry during movies… no matter how sad…”

Later on in the movie, a character tripped and spilled his coffee. Mia could have sworn she saw Diego get teary eyed. Once the movie ended, Mia had already fallen asleep. Diego turned off the television and carried Mia to her bed. He laid her under the covers. Then, he decided to crawl in next to her, so she could wake up with someone by her side.

This will prove I won’t leave her.

those two chapters were just so cute!!!
I like the way they werent completely fluff though, you mixed it in with painful parts of mia's past-and it worked really well. :)

At last, Christmas vacation when I can finally read fics! That was such a sad chapter. I think I nearly cried during Mia`s story. Diego crying over the guy spilling his coffee, now that is priceless! The coffee print pjs...now I want a set!
