Chapter 3
"Waaaaaaaahhh!! Mystic Mayaaaaaaaa! I can't control this thing!"
It was like standing in the middle of a rainbow. Rides, food stands, games, all were splashed with various vibrant colors. Popular characters like The Steel Samurai and the Jammin' Ninja were plastered all over the walls. Small children were running around like lunatics as their poor parents were not too far chasing after them.
As childish and energetic as Maya was, there was only so much of the Children's Area she could take. With toddlers screaming in her ear and parents pushing her aside just so their little brats could ride first, she was starting to feel exhausted herself.
So instead, she decided to resort to the nearest hot dog stand, leaving young Pearl to fend for herself behind the steering wheel of a bumper car.
"Go Pearly!", Maya called out from where the exit was, half a hot dog in her mouth. "You're doing great! Show those other kids what you're made of!"
"But I don't know how to drive!" Little Pearl called back as her car kept swerving to the left and right. Other cars were coming in from several directions and zooming past her like bullets. She began to panic.
"Don't worry! In Bumper Cars you don't need to learn how to drive! Just go and ram your car into the other drivers! It's fun!"
"B-But I'm s-scared!"
Unfortunately, Maya's advice came too late as Pearl found herself in the middle of two cars charging at her from both ends. Panicking, she quickly jammed on the gas pedal, zipping out of the way as the two cars rammed right into each other.
"Alright Pearly!!" Maya cheered. "See! You can do it!"
As the bumper car was still sliding across the floor, Pearl whipped her head around. "Thanks Mystic Maya!!" she called out with a smile.
However her smile didn't last very long. Maya's eyes began to widen as she saw that Pearl wasn't paying attention. "Pearl!!" she called out. "Watch where you're going!"
But it was too late.
WHAM!!
Pearl was rammed in the side by another car that sped in out of nowhere. "AAAAAHHH!!! MYSTIC MAYAAAAAAAAAAA!!" she exclaimed as the car began to go into a spin. As tears began to stream down her face, she ducked and covered her head as her car slammed right into a wall. A few moments later the sounds of the bumper car engines began to die down as they all came to a stop.
"Pearl!" Maya yelled out.
However Pearl wasn't getting out of her car. Now worried, Maya quickly ran over to her young cousin, charging through the several kids that were making their way out the exit. She made her way over to the car that Pearl was still sitting in. She was trembling, with her arms now wrapped around her legs and her head down, she looked like she was curled into a ball.
"M-Mystic M-M-Maya..." the young girl sniffled as she looked up at Maya with tears in her big eyes. A pained expression came upon Maya's face.
"Oh Pearly..." She picked the small girl up out of her car. Pearl wrapped her arms around Maya's shoulders, still shaking. "I'm so sorry, I should've been here for you," Maya spoke with remorse in her voice. "I was stupid. You weren't used to these things." She looked at Pearl as she wiped the tears from her cheek.
"Its okay Mystic Maya..." Pearl sniffled. "I just guess I wasn't brave enough for something like that." "Don't say that!" Maya exclaimed. "You're a very brave girl! Heck, you can even be braver than me sometimes!." Giving one last sniffle, Pearl looked up at Maya, her mouth slightly turning into a smile. "R-really?"
Maya giggled as she smiled back at her. "Really."
Finally calm, Pearl was placed back on her feet. The two girls tried to make their way through the endless crowd of screaming children and pushy parents.
"Hey Mystic Maya?" Pearl spoke up. "Can we go eat something? I'm kind of hungry." As they finally made it to the Children's Park exit, Maya checked her watch. "Hmmm...well it is about lunchtime," she began to ponder to herself. She then spun around to face Pearl.
"Alright, I have an idea. Why don't we head back to the hotel and get Nick so we can all go out to eat?"
The little girl began to bounce up and down in glee. "Okay!"
They began to make their way down the Main Street, looking up at the several rides along the way. Maya's eyes brimmed with excitement as she anticipated to go on each and every one of them. They passed a group of children, all that were lined up to take a photo with the Steel Samurai. Maya giggled as she knew she and Phoenix would have to take a photo with him later on.
Almost to the main park's exit, Maya and Pearl began to squeeze their way through the busy crowd. Millions of faces all became a blur, eyes only focused on the exit as their goal.
Then, silver.
"Huh?" Maya spun around. The top of someone's head caught the corner of her eye. She looked all over upon the blurry crowd until she felt Pearl tugging on her jeans. "Mystic Maya?" Pearl spoke up. 'Is something wrong?"
As Maya and Pearl finally made it to the exit, Maya stood there, still looking upon the crowd. Smiling, she then shook her head and laughed.
"Nah it's nothing," she said as they began to make their way to the bus stop.
"Just thought I recognized someone."
Wearing a red Hawaiian shirt, a man who began making his way through the busy crowd looked back at the park's entranceway. A slight smirk ran across his face as he noticed the two girls boarding the bus.
"Well well..." he spoke in an elegant manner. "I guess I'm not the only one here on vacation."
~~~~~~
SPLASH!
Steam filled the bathroom, fogging up the mirrors above the sink. Hot water overflowed and dripped onto the floor as Phoenix lowered himself into the hot tub.
"Ahhhhhhh..."
He let out a sigh of relaxation as the pulsating jets of water began to massage his aching legs and arms. Phoenix never felt such comfort in a long time.
This is amazing. I could stay here forever...
The warmth began to overcome him. He lowered his head back in the tub, letting his spiky hair soften under the steaming water. Looking up at the ceiling, he began to close his eyes. Slowly his mind drifted away, like it was floating on a cloud. Phoenix was finally at peace. At the peak of his comfort. Nothing could possibly disturb him now.
BAM!
That is, until the bathroom door was kicked open.
"Nick! Are you alright!?" A panicked Maya exclaimed as she and Pearl stood in the bathroom doorway.
"WARGHH!!"
Startled, Phoenix quickly jumped up from the hot tub and pulled the shower curtain over his body.
"GOOD HOLY GOD WOMAN, DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO KNOCK!!?"
