I slammed the car door. The cooling engine of my BMW began to crackle as I walked away. Eight in the morning, and already the sun was hot. I yawned as I walked up to the guard's post. I pointed to my ID on the leather strap of my bag. The guard nodded and let me pass. I waltzed to the chain-link fence and reached for the latch. It seemed to magically open by itself. I looked up.
It was him.
"Hello, Beautiful," Klavier said, wiping a stray hair out of my face.
"I told you not to call me that," I replied, pushing him out of the way. I walked up to the crime scene, where people were still crowded around. I studied the scene quickly, seeing how someone could walk around in the middle of the night and watch were they were going. You wouldn't be able to see your own feet; I was wearing heels and the blades of grass still tickled at my ankles. I also spotted rest rooms. Klavier stepped in front of me. I rolled my eyes.
"C'mon, Ema. Just admit it. This is starting to get old."
"You say that everyday, Klavier. This conversation is getting old. I have nothing to admit to you, anyway. So you might as well leave," I retorted, sticking my hand in my letter bag, searching for the luminol. Underneath test tubes and empty bags of Snackoos. I snuck a peek at Klavier's feet. They were seemingly cemented into the ground.
"You know me. I'm not going anywhere," I didn't look up. If anything, I looked away. I finally had my hands on the luminol. I took it out, and I was about to turn around when I felt Klavier's fingers. Gently, they were cradling my chin. He lifted my head up. We stared, but both his eyes and his smile stayed soft. Me on the other hand, I had a straight face and a hard glare. But that didn't stop him.
He leaned in.
I shut my eyes.
And he kiss me, gently. But within a second of us kissing, I broke us apart. His face was on my face. And, out of habit, I backhanded him. "What the hell?" I asked, struggling to keep a straight face.
"What do you mean what the hell? For a second I swore you..."
"For a whole second Klavier? Please, it wasn't even for
half a second."
"So are you admitting it?" Klavier asked, smiling,
"...Eh?" For the first time ever, my science finally bit me back.
"You kissed me back. Are you you admitting you kissed me?" At that point, I was just surprised that he wasn't jumping for joy.
"Kissed you? If I remember correctly, I
backhanded you. Nice try, Rockstar," I smirked and picked up the luminol. I walked right passed him, ignoring his very presence. I could feel his footsteps behind me. I ignored them and kept walking.
If he had something to say, he could tell me. He didn't have to stalk me to get my attention.
I walked up to the park bathrooms and sprayed the whole side of the building. Klavier stopped behind me. I turned around. I opened his mouth to see if he could get the black light out of my car, but I decided to just ignore him instead. I dropped the spray bottle and went to get it myself. Klavier took a step after me.
"Fraulein...?"
Silence.
"Ema, you should really...!"
I tripped. My tie up heels must have come undone, and he was trying to warn me. I should've known.
I was sprawled on the ground groaning. Klavier ran over quickly.
"Fraulein, I tried to warn you..."
"Oh, shut up. Just help me stand," I outstretched my hand and he helped me up. I groaned again. I think I sprained my ankle.
"Here, Ema. Let me tie that for you," he said, reaching for the silk lace.
"Nah, I think I got it," I dropped myself onto the grass. I reached for the heel, but then I stopped to see that it was swelling. "Never mind. It's all yours," I smiled and set my foot out for him. He smiled back.
Who knew he could tie so well? The bow was perfect. He held out his hand and I took the offer. I stood up and wobbled. He held me up.
"Are you going to be okay, Fraulein?" He asked, still smiling.
"It still hurts, but I'll be fine," I glance down for a second and he's in my face. Again. I facepalmed him forcefully. He stumbled backward. "Nice try, Gavin. You are going to have to try harder,
ja?" I mocked him with a nasty smirk. I began strutting (okay,
limping) to the park gate. The luminol had bound to have taken effect by now. But then I registered what I said to Klavier.
I almost stopped dead in my tracks.
Did I just give him permission to flirt with me?-------------------------------------------------------------------
