Valentine's Day
"Here you go!" she said as she handed out her valentines. A heart shaped card with corny Valentine sayings, such as "Bee mine" and "I choo-choo chose you!". It was an annual thing, something she looked forward to every year. Jenny handed them out to every student, even the new kid, Miles Edgeworth. Her mom would also bake cookies to share with the whole class.
Phoenix, the spiky haired boy smiled when he received his valentine. It was decorated with glitter, and it said "You're cute" on the inside. Phoenix blushed as he read it- but he was pretty sure five other boys in his class got the same message. He was nervous as he reached into his desk to look for a special gift for someone.
Miles Edgeworth, the new kid had already created a buzz around the school- he had defended Phoenix when everyone else turned against him. He was sitting at this desk with his wispy gray hair falling over his face, reading a book. He thanked Jenny after she gave him her present. She dropped it in his tissue box- the teacher made everyone make one to receive their valentines. His was red and decorated with hearts- he put a lot of effort into his. Miles looked over a Phoenix- he was looking inside his desk, looking for something. Phoenix's box was slightly dented- the effect of playing in the playground after school with his backpack on. Miles smiled, because of Phoenix's clumsiness.
Larry Butz receive a gift from Jenny as well. He quickly opened it- to his surprise, there was no message in it. He scratched his head in confusion and walked over to Phoenix.
"Hey! Nick! I didn't get a message in my gift from Jenny! What's up with that?" Larry began.
"Maybe she didn't have anything to say," said Phoenix, fumbling with the heart shaped box he was now holding in his hand.
"Whoa! Who's that for?" Larry asked. "For me? Nick, you shouldn't have!" Larry took the box.
"No! It's for uhmm someone else!" Phoenix said trying to get the box back.
"Okay, okay, you can have it!" Larry exclaimed, throwing the box in the air.
Phoenix fumbled to catch the box. He caught it be the bow, but it quickly untied itself, and all that was left of the original package in Phoenix's hand was the ribbon. The box of chocolates fell to the floor, scattering the chocolates on the floor.
Phoenix stared blankly at the ribbon he now held. He stared back at Larry, in shock. The whole class was looking, at the scattered chocolates, the numb look on Phoenix's face, and the ribbon in his hand.
"Do you need any help?" the teacher finally asked, breaking the silence.
"..." Phoenix did not reply. He was in absolute shock, a crestfallen look was on his face, and there were tears in his eyes that he held back.
His classmates looked away. The shock of it was gone. But the chocolate was still on the floor, the ribbon still in his hand, and the box still on the floor.
The teacher gave Phoenix a broom. He got up and swept the chocolate into a dust pan. He threw it in the garbage- there was no use for it. What's gone is gone. He shook the tears away. At least he still had the box.
Larry picked up the box. He gave it to Phoenix, who was still shaking. Phoenix took it. He tried to re wrap the present- it was no use. He just couldn't give it to him now.
"Need help?" chirped Jenny.
Phoenix nodded.
Jenny took the box and the ribbon aside. She carefully wrapped the ribbon around the box, and tied it into one neat ribbon and handed it back to Phoenix.
"Here ya go! My mom taught me how to wrap these things- I do my own valentines now, so I'm pretty used to this!" Jenny said.
Phoenix look at the smiling girl. He mouthed 'Thanks', and went back to his desk.
Could he really give his present to him now? It was ruined- although it did look pretty good. He mustered up his courage, praying, hoping he would like it.
"Here. This is for you," Phoenix blushed, presenting his gift out to the silver haired boy who was currently pouring over his book. Miles looked up. He had seen the incident, that was the box. The box of chocolates that fell on the floor. He'd never seen Phoenix so sad when it happened. He didn't know it was for him.
"Th-thank you. But why?" Miles asked, blushing.
"Because you defended me. You trusted me when no one else did, and it meant a lot," Phoenix said, his smile finally returning.
"It's no problem- really. My dad is a defense attorney- I want to be just like him! I want to believe in my clients," Miles said, smiling and taking the box.
"Look it's not perfect, you've probably seen my mess up-" Phoenix began.
"No! It's not your fault. I like it. Thanks," Miles said.
Phoenix nodded and went back to his desk. Miles kept staring. The mystery that is Phoenix Wright.
"Hey! You never told me who you were going to give your box to!" Larry said, sitting at the desk next to Phoenix.
"Oh, it's okay. I give it to them anyways. They like it," Phoenix said, smiling.
Larry stared intently at Phoenix. As long as he was happy. He stared at Miles Edgeworth. He was holding a box in his hand, a heart shaped box. Before he could walk up to him, school was dismissed and Miles left.
Larry told himself it was just a coincidence, a lot of girls liked Miles. Right? Right!??
