Klavier and Ema sat across the table from each other, unwilling to break the awkward silence. A few tense minutes passed, with no movement whatsoever, except for when Ema scratched her nose nervously and looked out the window, feigning interest in the cars rushing past outside. Klavier, for once, was feeling quite panicky, most unlike his relaxed, cool self. They sat in silence, waiting.
At last, Klavier broke the silence. It was as though he had shattered the frozen surface of a lake.
"Are you hungry? Want me to order something?"
Ema stared at him in disbelief for a moment, and he wondered if he had said the wrong thing. Then she broke out in hysterical laughter.
"Of course I am! I'm starving!"
Relief washed over the ex-rock star.
Yes! One point to Klavier Gavin! Now take it slow, gauge her reactions. Laughing despite himself, he waved for a waitress to come and take his order. Before he could say a word, however, Ema cut in.
"Do you serve Snackoos?" She blurted out loudly, as her stomach gave an enormous grumble.
The politely bemused waitress took that as a joke, and proceeded to list the day's specials.
"Today the Chef's Special is steak with braised vegetables and mash. It's $12.50 with a drink of your choice."
Klavier tried to cut in, but the waitress continued reciting as if she had swallowed the menu.
"And then there's the pasta, we serve excellent pasta here. Beef ravioli in bolognese, would you like that? Or would you rather our spinach fettucine with your drink of choice? Today, only, for just $10.50!"
Klavier silenced her by taking her hand and gently pulling her into the seat beside him. He glanced at Ema, who looked slightly amused, and winked. Gavin stroked the waitress's hand softly, causing her to giggle loudly, attracting the attention of the other diners in the restaurant. As she moved her face closer to his, evidently asking for a passionate kiss, Klavier whispered in her ear.
"I'll give you the best kiss in your life, if you close your eyes..."
She obliged, and puckered up her lips. The waitress moved her face forwards as Ema tried in vain to suppress her laughter. Klavier was holding up his Gavinner's necklace, and just as Ema was at the end of her tether, the waitress's lips met the cold metal. Her eyes jerked open in surprise, and she glanced angrily at Klavier, a wide grin on his face. Ema finally let loose her laughter, and to him that was like the sound of softly falling rain on the leaves. The waitress stood up angrily, nearly upsetting the table, and strode off.
"Oh, you glimmering fop," said Ema lovingly.

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it change the way you think about it.
