This is the official AAI Countdown Drabble Challenge thread! It's not an official contest or anything so there's no prize if you do it, an no one's keeping track. It's just for fun.

The idea is to write a drabble (500 word mini-fic) for each case as the countdown progresses. It can be about anything as long as it has something to do with the case of the day. If you miss the day it's no big deal, or if you write some ahead of time and post them on the day, but try not to still be posting 1-1 drabbles by the time we get to 1-4 or something.

If you'd rather, you're also welcome to post to your existing fic threads. But please don't create a new thread just for your countdown drabbles.

Oh, and no porn please.

Today's Case is 4-1!

The Thinker, a clock
And a murder weapon too
How versitle

My drabble (not quite 500 words, but long enough for me) was inspired in part by Croik's comment about Phoenix taking his sweet time to tell the story of why he became a lawyer. This one is also kind of inspired by the events at the end of case 1 (Phoenix being asked to dinner and drinks) and the beginning of case two (His dinner meeting with Mia and Maya.) I'll still write a separate drabble for 1-2 because I have a different idea for that one.

Spoiler: Case 1-1 Drabble
Phoenix Wright had every good intention to honor his dinner and drinks date with the Chief, but it seemed as if life didn’t want him to be happy. The day after his first court victory, Phoenix was struck with a severe case of the flu and another underlying infection the doctors weren’t exactly sure of its origins or nature. This meant that he spent the better part of a month laid up in the hospital. His constant companion loneliness divided up by an occasional visit from the Chief or Larry. The tubes and monitors Phoenix was hooked up to prevented him from communicating at all to his occasional companions. Needless to say, he was ecstatic to leave that dreadful hospital once the flu was gone and the infection, still mysterious, cleared.

It was just his luck that he got a call from the Chief that very evening. She wanted him to join he and her sister for dinner. He’d finally be able to share that story with her after all this time.

He had little time to dwell on that now, for a nervous energy overtook the young attorney. Being out of work for a month meant he had neither the time nor the money to go buy a new smart suit for tonight’s dinner. Luckily for him, his classic blue court suit was still in the closet, stagnant since its last trip to the dry cleaners. He knew it wouldn’t impress the chief, but at least her sister hadn’t seen him in it before.

Phoenix showered, shaved, and dressed an hour before it was time to leave. He paced around his apartment looking at the clock to see if it was time to go yet, pondering clever things to say during dinner to impress both the chief and her sister.
After pacing grew tiring and presented the potential to undo his earlier cleansing, Phoenix rested on the couch. He thought about the chief, what she’d be wearing, if she would do her hair different, wear perfume. Phoenix closed his eyes, his thoughts turning a bit naughtier, imaging bringing the chief back to his place, his lips pressed to hers.

His idle thoughts brought him out of a daze. He looked to the clock. He must have dozed because now it was passed time to leave. He left the house, hurrying to the office. Phoenix didn’t want to make a bad impression by being late for dinner.

This story is the forum equivalent to a comment boxed fic on the meme. I don't think I captured Phoenix's voice well in this, but I'm also not in top writing shape at the moment. I haven't done much editing to it, for I am sick and exhausted. I hope someone enjoys this.

Croik, about your haiku, the last phrase has only four syllables.

I'm a bit too lazy today to write a drabble, so I'll write this (and I might continue to write things like this as well) :

S- special to you
I- irreplaceable
S- sincere
T- true to the end
E- eternal friend
R- ready to make a sacrifice

The only sister that doesn't match is Dahlia, but she's not in 1-2. Yay! This is Angel Aquino, signing off.

Drabbles~
This sounds fun. Here's mine, it's over 500 though.

Spoiler: The Call
Maya wasn't happy, but she wasn't sad either. The month has been terrible so far; losing her sister, getting framed for murder, and she never did get that burger she wanted. On the bright side, she got to see Phoenix, who Mia spoke of great praise. She couldn't thank him enough for saving her from the guilty verdict.

Buried in the quilts, she thought of her family. Her father died when she was younger, and her mother disappeared. Mia and her aunt, Morgan had been the ones that raised her to be a strong girl. Almost everyone spoke kind words about Mia. Her reputation as a defense attorney was higher than most.

Her funeral was in five days time. Lots of people were going to show to pay their final respects, which she appreciated. It still felt missing without some family members confirmed. It would have been lovely to have Aunt Morgan and Pearl at her side. Maya hopped out of her bed, tied her black hair up, then left the bedroom.

"Morning Maya," Phoenix yawned as he rubbed his black hair. His body sloped on the sofa. His eyelids looked just as heavy as Maya's. Phoenix hadn't got any new cases since her trial. And it seemed like Phoenix wasn't interested either.

"Morning Nick," Maya said, keeping her chin up. She looked down seeing Larry flopped over on the floor. His blonde hair looked like a cross between a bush and poodle. "Hi Larry."

"Morning gorgeous," croaked Larry.

Maya smiled at the two men as she walked over to the table, to reach her cell phone. It was a little early to call, but it urgent. She tried to ignore her stomach singing for food. She was the most hungriest in the morning. Juicy burgers floating around in her mind.

Maya shook her and rang home.

Beep ... Beep ... Beep ... Beep

Her stomach growled every time blinked. She was hoping for Pearl to pick up. There was hardly any phones in Kurain so it could be anyone who picked up. The beeping ceased and it's place was, "Hello..."

It was a soothing voice from a woman. And a voice Maya knew too well. It was her Aunt Morgan.

"Hello Aunt Morgan," Maya sighed. "It's Maya."

"Oh Mystic Maya," Morgan said. "Thank goodness... you are safe. Pearl and I have heard about Mystic Mia's death. We're both so shocked and shaken by the news. You must tell us all about it, when your back home. Mystic Pearl adores your little tales."

"Off course I will," Maya giggled, then the giggle turned into a cough.

"Are you all right?" Morgan asked. "You seem as if you've been deprived of sleep."

"Yeah I'm fine," Maya lied. "I am a bit tired."

"You mustn't fear my dear," Morgan told her. "You will still be able to channel her."

"I know," Maya said. "Anyway how's Pearly?"

"She's asleep at the moment," Morgan announced. "Best not to wake her."

"Okay. Anyway Morgan do you think you can come?"

"Come where?" Morgan gasped.

"To Mia's funeral!" Maya replied. "It's on the twenty-third."

"I'm afraid Mystic Pearl and I cannot attend Mystic Mia's funeral," Morgan whispered. "I'm far too busy and it pains me to see Pearl so upset. I hope you understand, Mystic Maya."

"Yeah, I understand."

"I must go now," Morgan muttered. "It was wonderful talking to you. You take care."

And Morgan hung up, and Maya was still tired and starving.

By the end my haiku combined may add up to 500 words. That is close enough for me:

A wink that sways the courtroom

Though it was his first case,
He put the killer in his pace,

That's great. I love how Phoenix is so excited about that choice. "You really are lovers." Then Grossberg, as if he can see into his minds, corrects him again.

Spoiler: Case 1-2 Drabble
Maya’s dejection renewed when Phoenix told her she would have to go back to jail while he investigated the case. She had faith that he could pull this off. Of course he could, she had done nothing wrong. They talked in the lobby as long as the detective would let them before she was hauled back to her cell in the detention center.

The cuffs were cold behind her back as Maya road back to her confinement. In the front seat were the detective that testified, Dick Gumshoe and the prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth. The detective was driving while the prosecutor berated him for his performance on the stand. He kept going on and on, using words like imbecile, idiot, and Neanderthal. The other man just looked on, a sadness in his eyes as the prosecutor said the detective would regret his next salary review.

The way the man in the magenta suit went on, it was like Maya didn’t even exist in the back seat. She wasn’t sure why he’d even need to accompany them back to the detention center. Maybe he wanted to make sure she didn’t escape. As if a girl of her stature and strength could outwit and outrun a detective that size

Detective Gumshoe parked the car, but before getting out to escort Maya to the cell, he asked Mr. Edgeworth if he’d like to grab a bite to eat for lunch. Maya could see the distaste in his eyes and it was reflected in his tone of voice. A simple “no” but it carried a deep bitterness that obviously hurt the detective. There was no cheer in his voice or step as he escorted her back to the tiny cell.
Her day after that was uneventful. No one questioned her about what had gone on the night of the murder. She kept her faith up and hoped Phoenix was finding the leads he needed to get her set free.

Several hours later a guard came to her cell, opening it saying she was free to go. Detective Gumshoe was there and she asked him where Phoenix was. He told her to ask about visiting him and soon she was on the other side of the class talking to the spiky haired attorney. Now he was going to be on trial for her sister’s murder. It just didn’t make sense. It seemed as if they just wanted to pin this murder on the most convenient person.

Maya promised to support Phoenix in court the next day. When she arrived she learned he was representing himself. ‘Sis had always said that was something only fools and lunatics did. Of course, saying that right before his own trial probably wasn’t a good idea, so he kept to herself.

As the trial went on, things became more heated and desperate. Phoenix had White in the proverbial corner when Mr. Edgeworth uttered an objection. It seemed like all hope was lost. Maya was getting hot, nervous. It was all too much for her. She felt her vision fade and a fluttering in her body. Soon she faded altogether.

Maya came too several hours later with a note in Mia’s neat handwriting. It detailed what had happened and the outcome of the trial. Maya jumped for joy for both Phoenix’s win and her first successful spirit channeling. No one had to know it was by accident or desperate possession. Now that she did it once, she could do it again.

Looking at the time, she hurried out her apartment door and to the bus stop. She didn’t want to be late for her dinner with Phoenix. He totally owed her now.

Hmm... maybe we should change this from drabble challenge to haiku challenge! ...just kidding.

With one mighty push
Jack descends upon the fence
Pop goes the weasel

Triumphantly poised
In all his frilly glory
'Tis Miles Edgeworth

Security guard
Looks sweet but talks too damn much
Because she wants everyone to focus on her and treat her with respect since she is everyone's elder but no one had better look down on her as such because she's paid her dues and is only there to catch a glimpse of her sweet Evil Magistrate who is a thousand times the man the Steel Samurai will ever be and holy shit I broke the syllable rule

Watching Phoenix Wright
Porcupines erect their quills
I think they're jealous

Glistening beneath
Maya's carnivorous maw
Trails of burger juice

Something I made up for 1-3. A lil' limerick. I'd write a drabble, but I really should be getting to sleep. It's 4 AM here. I hope you like!

Um...so it's still 1-3? Alright...

Oh boy, this is soooooo lame.

Spoiler:
It was ridiculous, Miles Edgeworth knew.

Simply ridiculous. Miles watched on passively as Phoenix Wright shouted, pointing with so much conviction the prosecutor briefly wondered why he had not seen the truth earlier; it was in plain sight.

Dee Vasquez was obviously guilty: though just yesterday Miles had been convinced that Will Powers was the one who killed Jack Hammer. But then that defense attorney had gone around and brought out all kinds of evidence proving otherwise, finding the lies in testimonies, cross examining a child...

The case was rocky from the start: with only a photo of a person in a costume, the prosecutor had been honestly surprised that it was enough to put Powers in jail. The 'murder weapon' was broken, and the supposed only witness at the time was so biased, she might as well have been out right lying.

"You lack decisive proof, Mr. Wright" Vasquez almost smirked as she smoked, and Miles blinked.

What...?

Wright reacted much more explosively, and the judge had to be order to the court of a few raps of the gavel, "Your thoughts, Mr. Edgeworth?" The older man asked, and Miles was at a loss of words.

"Umm... uhh... mmmph." Of course she's guilty! "O-of course, it's as the witness says!" Miles paused, shocked at his own betraying thoughts. Vasquez was completely right; without evidence, there wasn't a case. Why had he even considered anything else? "Certainly, it does seem very likely she did it... but, uh, there's no proof!"

And evidence is everything.

"Well?" The studio producer didn't seem completely satisfied with Miles delayed reactions, but she continued. "I came here was a witness today. If you've no more questions, I'll be leaving."

Wright was silent, and Miles saw the hope leaving those blue eyes. Was that it? Was the great rookie defense attorney finally giving up? Miles would simply say that Powers was guilty, and that would be the verdict. Manfred von Karma would congratulate Miles for his victory, and his honor would be somewhat salvaged.

Was that what he wanted? Another guilty verdict to brag about? His perfect win record was so important, yet Miles had already lost that with his previous trial; was Miles going to help carry out the wrong verdict for something so petty? Vasquez as the killer was more likely than Powers...

Wright needed more time: if anyone could find the true killer, he could.

"As it seems there are no further questions...I would like to end the cross-examination of the witness, Ms. Vasquez."

"OBJECTION!"

I'm not sure how long this is...But I imagine that it's probably around 500. Anyways, I always wished there was more explanation of what happened 5 years ago, so I decided to write this.

Spoiler: Dee Vasquez: A reflection (1-3 spoilers)
The gig is up. They know it all. The scandal, the murder...The truth is out.
Why did I do it? It was self-defense. Hammer was trying to kill me, I had no choice.
And yet...And yet there's a part of me, deep down I know there's a part of me that's glad he's dead.

"No! Manuel! Manuel!!!"
Hammer killed him. He took away from me the only person that ever really cared...
Manuel was different from everybody else. No other person I had ever met ever gave a damn. They just saw some girl with no future ahead of her. But Manuel...
He actually cared about me. He stood up for me when the other girls mocked me, and he stood by me no matter how rough things got.
Being a producer was always just some stupid dream I had, but Manuel encouraged me. He cheered me on while everybody else tried to hold me back.
After years of disappointment, I had become a cold person, and I tried keeping to myself. Manuel was the only person I could ever open up to. I knew that he would never hurt me. I knew that he would never let me down.
Then came the big day. I had made it. I was producer at Global Studios. After years of hard work, I had finally reached my goal. And none of it would have happened were it not for him...
I realized that I could pay him back for all those years he had stood by me. I got Manuel a gig at Global Studios. It was the least I could do. Manuel had always wanted to be an actor. He was so happy with his new job...
And then I lost him.

"What...? What happened here!?"
""Manuel fell from the trailer stairs...!"
"Manuel! Manuel!"

And that's why I did it. That's why I blackmailed Hammer for five years. I wanted him to hurt. I wanted him to feel the pain that I felt. I wanted him to burn. Part of me knows that it was an accident. He wouldn't have done it on purpose. I know that, and yet...I couldn't accept it. I couldn't get over Manuel.
And that's why when I pushed Hammer to his death, I didn't feel a thing.

"No...! No!How could this...?"
"It was an accident..."
"Nooooooooooooo!"

Manuel was the only person that ever truly cared...I loved him.

Aw, one doesn't see many Dee Vasquez stories. :3 Nice little ficlet about the possible relationship she had with the victim (of an accident, really, who knows) from those years before 1-3. <3

Uber short and uber comment boxed because this is so late and it is late here too. There are probably tons of mistakes in this, but I have to go to bed now. I hope you enjoy this. I'll put more work into the next one hopefully.

Spoiler: 1-3
Edgeworth checked the paperwork no less than forty-seven times before going to his supervisor to make sure they this right. It couldn't be. There was no way on earth it could be true. Him? Of all people? Murder? Guilty? It couldn't be.

Sure, as the Steel Samurai Will Powers vanquished his foes all for great justice, but in real life the man was known to be quite gentle and unassuming. This couldn't be real. Miles Edgeworth couldn't accept it as such. No. He would not prosecute Will Powers. He was an innocent man. The evidence flimsy at best.

Unfortunately for Edgeworth, his boss had other ideas. He'd have to prosecute the man, his hero, hero to millions, or risk loosing his position as High Prosecutor. Edgeworth couldn't take that risk. Being a prosecutor was his life, livelihood, his everything. He needed it to live and so with a heavy heart, he signed his paper work, damning him to prosecute a man he admired.

The head banger
Manfred knew Wright was closing in for the bullet, as he had a way to show if it was in his shoulder. "Why don't we use this?" Phoenix took out a metal detector, "If we drag it across your body, we will see if the bullet is still in your shoulder or not!" Phoenix shouted out, slamming the bottom of both his hands hard onto his desk, slightly hurting. "No! This is a invasion of my privacy!" Von Karma shouted out, holding onto his shoulder sweating bullets.

Yes, I am actually serious. This is a epic fail :udgy:
But I wanted to join in anyway cause it looks like fun :edgy:

Manfred von Karma
Cute animals die in fright
Whenever he snaps

But Polly, so brave, so strong
Testifies for what is right

(I've graduated from haiku to...renga? If someone wants to add another 5-7-5-7-7 go ahead!)

I'm so behind on this challenge overall, but here is my drabble for 1-4. I was fun trying to write from von Karma's perspective.

Spoiler: 1-4 Drabble
The inane witness finished the first part of her testimony and it should have ended there. That doddering old fool of a judge actually had the audacity to allow that defense attorney to cross examine his witness. Manfred von Karma was perfect, and this insolence suddenly cutting into his carefully scheduled day. The boy had the nerve to press every one of her statements, trying to get her to talk. Objection to them all! There was not a chance in the world he’d make his scheduled appointment. Von Karmas were in control, so he simply instructed the judge to order a recess. He was an old man, according to some at least, he could easily feign being tired and needing a break. Alone in the prosecution lobby, he pulled out his cellular telephone and dialed the number he needed, perfectly stored in his memory banks.

After two rings, an adequate amount but far from perfect, someone picked up the line with the standard telephone greeting.
“Manfred von Karma speaking. I need to reschedule my noon appointment.”

She first asked for the customary information, what time he’d like to move it to and who he wanted to see. He answered those questions without hesitation, playing it perfectly safe by having the appointment in the early evening instead. Then the woman on the line asked the dreaded and singly most important question for this transaction. He carefully looked around to see if he was alone in the lobby before speaking.

“It’s for a wax.”

He thought that would be simple enough. Didn’t they have that information on the computer? The past appointment log? Surely a reputable spa such as this would have immaculate records. So why did this dreadful woman need to know what kind?

Angrily he answered, spitting his response into the phone, “It’s for a total body wax. Do you need more detail than that? The full monty: ears, chest, back, brow, posterior, limbs, and scrotum.”

The woman made note and thanked him, saying she’d see him later. Glad that was over, he clicked his phone off and headed back to court.

Detective Gumshoe came out of hiding from behind the couch. He’d never be the same again.

I tried to write one of these renga, but I think I totally failed at it. Anyway, my late contribution for case 1-5

A new assistant
She reminds me of times passed
A duty to help

A great passion for science
To know what the future holds

Spoiler: Thank god I don't have a fanfic thread. Reading this is murder to eyes
The Banana Lover
Wellington grabbed a epicly large banana off of his fruit basket, it was brown and had a strange hole in the bottom the basket did. He unwraps it, kissing it gently, "I love large banana's" Wellington whispered to it, turning on what sounds like porn music, and dancing with the banana. "I love you..." He sheds out a small tear, taking a bite, "Yum..." He whispers out, dancing with the bitten banana around his kitchen.. He did it all night untill his parents came to visit, he was humiliated.

Not sure if this is over 500 or is under :wellington:

In Franziska's court
A foolishly foolish fool
deserves to be whipped

Who qualifies as a fool?
Well, that would be everyone.

Spoiler: Christ, has anyone gone blind from reading my stuff yet?
The Whip
Theres a brown whip, is smacks agiants the table as it is pulled, it screams for help as it goes half way across the court room, as it hits a spikey haired lawyer in a blue suit, once the owner was defeated, the whip was tortured, the last thing it heard before going unconcious with Phoenix was "OWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOW" "And 1 more for good measures!" as Franziska von Karma whipped Phoenix 4 more times as he fainted, "Phoenix? Phoenix?! PHOENIX!!!!!"

Yet again not sure about the 500 word thing :nick-sweat:

Most word processors have a word count option. Just looking at it, no, that's not nearly enough words to be five hundred. Five hundred words is like two typed pages.

God dammit, I will have to post my last one. This one is similar to angel_of_nature's one.
M-Master of bastards
A- Asshole of eternity
T- Tiny man who sucks
T- Team leader of evil

E-Evil of all things
N-Neutral, or not? He is not, he is a bastard.
G- Gee. He screwed his face up.
A- Asshole who fucked his face up.
R- Ransom, he forced De Killer to do Ransom.
D- Devil of them all.
E- Eternal destruction bringer.
I'm not as good as angel.
