Hi everyone, I'm Ping' ;)

As some of you may be aware, I am the creator of a fangame called Apollo Justice Case 5: Turnabout Substitution, the longest casemaker game released so far.

While the dialogue of the main story is 100% complete, and coding is very close to completion (we're aiming for a release of the full game this month or the next), I have long wanted to include a little "extra" dialogue in the form of phone conversations between Apollo and Phoenix / Trucy / Thalassa, whom he can call at any time during the investigation.
Spoiler: beginning of Turnabout Substitution
Apollo has already been told about his relationship with Trucy and Thalassa.

Since there are many talented writers on this board, I therefore decided to organize a little fic contest so that you guys can write this dialogue.
Ideally, I would like to have 3 short conversations for each character (9 conversations in total).
You can submit as many conversations as you like, from 1 to 9 and even more, though at least 3, that is, 1 per character, would be nice. You can post them in several times, conversation by conversation, as long as it is before the deadline.

Now, what can you gain from doing this?
Well, first of all, the best 3 conversations for each character will be used in-game (though some changes may have to be made in case the conversation is great, but a detail doesn't fit the plot, for instance). If your conversation(s) happen/s to be chosen, you will be credited as a dialogue writer.
Secondly, your other fics, if you have any, will be advertised in the Turnabout Substitution topic, and maybe even in-game in a subtle way.
Finally, you may also be given
1/ access to the Turnabout Substitution subforum on Ace Fancase, allowing you to have an insider's look on how the game was made
2/ a position as a proofreading beta tester, enabling you to play the final game before it comes out
3/ exclusive information on the new game I'll be working on after Tsub.

Note that there is no predetermined number of winners. Only the quality counts: maybe there'll be 9 different authors, or maybe one person will actually write all of the selected 9.

Starting now, you have TWO WEEKS to post your conversations. Please post them in this topic, inside spoiler tags named [Nameofcharacter: Conversation n°numberofconversation].

For those who have played the game (it'd be best if you did it if you want to participate XD), here are more all the details concerning what is needed:
Spoiler:
- The player can get the first conversations on day 1, after Apollo has received the phone. The second conversations happen in the middle of the second investigation, between Erlenmeyer's escape and Judge's murder, while the third ones can be had anytime after that.
- Phoenix, Trucy and Thalassa, are on holiday in Borginia, a very touristic country with lots of things to see (your speculations on Borginia can be based on 4-3, but also AAI-2). Apollo was meant to travel with them, but missed the plane because of the case, and is supposed to join them later.
Note: on day 1, Apollo tells Phoenix about the case. On day 2, after the trial, he pretends he still has a lot of work to do, even though he's not technically working on a case. On day 3, Phoenix knows about Judge's murder, since he's the one who told Apollo.
The conversations are not essential to the plot. They're here for character development, fun and a bit of fan service. The goal is to develop the interactions between Apollo and Phoenix / Trucy / Thalassa after he's learnt about his true identity. The dialogue has to feel natural and spontaneous ; don't forget this is part of a game, not a one-shot fic. It's supposed to be a somewhat realistic conversation, not a monologue, but has to be funny and witty at the same time, so the style should be more Aaron Sorkin than Dostoievski.
- The conversations with Phoenix should probably be the ones most closely related to the case, as Apollo and Phoenix are both attorneys. Apollo will be looking for advice on what to do, and Phoenix could make some references to his past cases to help him. The key point here is the sort of teacher / student, or even father / son, dynamic, between the two, with Apollo both being extremely admirative of his hero and very critical of the man he's become. But Phoenix will also talk about the fun he's having in Borginia – though with a more cynical eye than Trucy and Thalassa - perhaps making fun of Apollo.
The conversations with Trucy should be lighter and more cheerful. As excited as usual, Trucy will talk about the amazing things she's seeing in Borginia. She'll also comment on the fact that he's useless as an attorney without her as his assistant, and teasing him over his relationship with Rhea. A cute brother-sister relationship, with her annoying him on purpose but not actually wanting to hurt him, should be what you're aiming for, though both characters are still likely to be uncomfortable with the idea that they're in fact siblings, and not simply treating each other as such.
The conversations with Thalassa should be focusing on the difficulties of suddenly having to think of each other as mother and son , with a lot of awkwardness on both parts. Thalassa will try to reassure Apollo about his insecurities regarding the case, and worry about every detail of his daily life, in typically motherly fashion. Apollo will want to know as much as possible about his early childhood, his father, etc. Anecdotes about Apollo's birth are to be expected.

Other than these requirements, the rest is up to your imagination.

The entries will be judged by myself on several criteria (is the dialogue fun or boring? is the writing style adequate? does it fit into the rest of the game?), the most important being whether everyone is in character.

By participating, you will help the TS team finish one of the most ambitious fangames around. And even if your dialogue isn't selected, it'll be a fun exercise in style that'll undoubtedly help you make great progress as a writer.

I wish you all good luck :)

Looking forward to reading your entries!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to post them here.

Oh, yeah, nothing prevents you from participating too :D
Of course, if your dialogue happens to be chosen, I'll have to think of another reward, since you already have most of the others.

Ooh, this sounds interesting. I think I'll participate. The Phoenix and Trucy convos should be fuuuuuun. :will: The Thalassa ones will probably be more challenging, so don't expect much. Any limits on length?

The important thing is to make sure that the conversation isn't so long-winded as to feel like a waste of time for the player. So no, there is no specific limit. Looking forward to your entries =)

Well, I was going to write them all up and then come in at the last second and post my entries. But then I saw that people weren't entering, so I decided to just enter so that perhaps other people would. And then I couldn't find time to write them up, so now I'm entering at the last second. Anyway, don't worry about a new prize for me if I get picked; info on your next game is more than enough.

Spoiler: Phoenix/Polly
I don't think you are really going to like it at first, but just wait and see... xD

Phoenix/Apollo 1:
Phoenix: Hey, Apollo. How's it going?
Apollo: As good as it usually goes.
Phoenix: Ha ha, I see... Anything new?
Apollo: Not really... Things seem to be coming together piece by piece, although there are a few strange things...
Phoenix: Tell me more.
Apollo: Well, the biggest thing is that Erlenmeyer's corpse is missing.
Phoenix: You should probably look into that, then.
Apollo: I was thinking that, too.
Phoenix: Oh, and Apollo?
Apollo: Yeah?
Phoenix: Leave your message at the beep.
Apollo: Wh-What?!
Phoenix: [beep]
Apollo: ... I just have one thing to say to you, you stupid old man... OBJECTION! [click]

Phoenix/Apollo 2:
Phoenix: Hey, Apollo. What's up?
Apollo: Ah... Not much. (It had better be him this time...)
Phoenix: Oh, so you're going to be joining us soon?
Apollo: Oh! I-I mispoke, I have a ton of work to do with the case!
Phoenix: So you couldn't wrap up the case in one day?
Apollo: Y-Yeah... It got a bit crazy today. There's a few loose ends I need to look into.
Phoenix: Loose ends like...?
Apollo:W-Well, uh... I-I have a hunch that maybe this whole thing was actually a prison break!
Phoenix: A prison break?
Apollo: Yeah! They broke Erlenmeyer out of prison, but did it by framing Judge for Erlenmeyer's murder!
Phoenix: ... I don't know... That sounds a bit far-fetched. Would someone really cover up a prison break with a murder? Maybe you should rethink this theory of yours, Apollo.
Apollo: Uh... I'll see. I want to look into it a bit more.
Phoenix: All right. Who's "they"?
Apollo: Who's who?
Phoenix: You said, "They broke Erlenmeyer out of prison." Who exactly is "they"?
Apollo: A-Ah... I need to look into that, too...
Phoenix: Well, wrap up this case quickly.
Apollo: I'll try to.
Phoenix: You need to get over here already! Don't you want to see the world's largest cocoon?
Apollo: O-Of course!
Phoenix: Then I expect to see you soon! Let the oppotunity of seeing the cocoon drive you, Apollo! I mean, just think about how much poison you could make from it! Anyway, talk to you later.
Apollo: Yeah, later... [click] (...Wait, why didn't he say how much antidote could be made from the cocoon...?)

Phoenix/Apollo 3:
Phoenix: Hey, Apollo. How's it going?
Apollo: Ugh, not this again...
Phoenix: Ha ha, I see... Anything new?
Apollo: Your answering machine message isn't, at least.
Phoenix: Tell me more.
Apollo: I just wish this stupid message was shorter!
Phoenix: You should probably look into that, then.
Apollo: Yes, yes, just finish up...
Phoenix: Oh, and Apollo?
Apollo: I know, leave my message at--
Phoenix: It's me this time.
Apollo: GWAAAAH!!
Phoenix: C'mon, Apollo. You really can't hear Trucy and Thalassa in the background?
Apollo: N-No... B-But why do you keep on tricking me?!
Phoenix: Because it's fun and easy.
Apollo: Please st-stop...
Phoenix: No way!
Apollo: Mr. Wright..!
Phoenix: At least I'm being honest and not lulling you into a false sense of security.
Apollo: ...I... suppose that's true.
Phoenix: Anyway, didn't you say you had something to tell me?
Apollo: Oh yeah... (I had completely forgot!)
Phoenix: How is the case coming along?
Apollo: Strangely... It's a bit weird defending a serial killer.
Phoenix: Don't let your preconceived notions deceive you.
Apollo: There's a lot of evidence against Erlenmeyer, also...
Phoenix: Well, I'd say there was a lot of evidence against me, Wocky, Machi, Vera, and Judge. That hasn't stopped you before, has it?
Apollo: I-I know, but still, I just can't... I don't really know how to phrase it.
Phoenix: Relax. You won't do a good job either in your investigation or in court if you keep this up. Take a deep breath, and regain your conficence and composure.
Apollo: O-Okay...
Phoenix: Someone once told me that it's a lawyer's job to smile.
Apollo: S-Smile!?
Phoenix: That's right. No matter how bad it gets, you need to smile for your client until the bitter end.
Apollo: Ah... I think I understand...
Phoenix: Good. Then that means you'll resolve this case quickly and join us over here! The Borginian ocelot in their National Zoo whistles only once a month, and it's in two days! I know you wouldn't want to miss that.
Apollo: N-No... I'll try my best.
Phoenix: Great. Good luck, Polly! [click]
Apollo: (It's a lawyer's job to smile... Hm... Oh well, back to the investigation)
(If Rhea is with you, then:)
Rhea: All finished speaking with Mr. Wright?
Apollo: Yeah, all done.
Rhea: Good. Let's get back to our investigation. ...What's with the dopey grin?
Apollo: O-Oh, nothing... Let's just get back to work.

I'll try and think of something for Trucy and Thalassa. I have an idea for one conversation with Trucy, at least...

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for, thanks a lot ;)

This does not mean it'll automatically be selected, of course - anyone can still win, so keep the entries rolling in!

Hi everyone ;)

Considering the low number of entries so far, I have decided to extend the contest one week.

So if you're interested, remember that you have until next Monday to post your dialogue - this is your last chance, so don't let it slip by!
