Title: A New Turnabout
Author: Kai Takaru (Me)
Rating: PG-13 I guess
Genre: A Mixture
Status: Not complete, will be a running series if liked.
Summary: A new defense attorney is just starting and is a little nervous about his first case, but hopefully being prepared will get him through it. There are no spoilers, since all these characters are of my own creation.

((This is the first fanfiction type thing I've ever done, so don't judge it too hard.))

“Is the defense ready?” The judge asked as he stoked his long grey beard. He seemed very old but oddly had a full head of hair.

Must be a wig……Kaito thought, then quickly shook his head once he heard his profession being called. “Y-yes your honor.”

“I don’t recognize your face. Are you a new attorney?” He asked with a puzzled look.He certainly looked like an attorney at least. Kaito was wearing his usual blue suit and red tie. His crimson hair is what stuck out most although. It was unkempt, some of it falling in front of his face.

“Um, well, yes……your honor.” Kaito said nervously, nodding his head.

“Then please state your full name for the court room.” The judge requested, looking at him and still stroking his facial hair.

“Kaito Surugi, your honor.” He stated, sitting up a bit more and trying to look more professional.

“Well, then good luck to you, you’ll need it.” The judge said, then simply turned away and looked out to the whole court room.

Thanks…..thanks a lot…… He thought, starting to sweat.

“Since both sides are now ready, the prosecution may now call their first witness.” The judge continued, now holding onto his gavel.

“The prosecution calls Detective White to the stand.” A man with slick silver hair dressed in a dark red suit with bright gold shoulders said profoundly.

He looks like he works for a King or something…He thought staring at the blinding shoulders of his suit.

He man in all white stood took the stand, shifting his top hat a bit to the right.

“Name and occupation.” The prosecution said, wanting to get on with it obviously.

“Come now Mr. King, you surely know me.” White said with a chuckle, leaning forward.

So that’s why he looks like that. What a bunch of characters…..A man in white named White and a guy who looks like he should be with the king is named King… Kaito thought, feeling even more nervous.

“Yes, I do know you, but you still must. It’s the procedure. Now, name and occupation.” King said, getting very annoyed.

“Alright, alright, the name’s White and I am a detective. Hence, Detective White.” White explained, rolling his eyes.

“Good, now may you please explain the crime scene?” King asked, leaning back a little and getting ready to listen.

“Yes, I shall.” White started, shifting his top hat once more before thinking. “Alright, the murder took place February 20th, in Livingston Ballpark’s own locker room at 10:30 PM. Our beloved Rumblers have lost someone dear to them. His name was Jack Wilson, our home team’s assistant coach. The murder weapon was found, being an wooden bat. The finger prints found on the weapon match the defendant’s. Three blows to the head were all it took. Bam! Bam! Bam! It was over in a snap.” White finished, chuckling a little to himself as he presented the autopsy.

“Right, I see no reason for a cross-examination. Prosecution may call their next witness.” The judge said looking at Kaito, who nodded in agreement.

“The prosecution calls up the defendant, Alexandra Kytes.” King said, brushing off his shoulders casually.

A girl got up onto the stand quietly. She seemed to be about 20 and had long black hair.

“Name and occupation.” He asked, tapping an impatient foot.

“As you said, I am Alexandra Kytes and my occupation is waitress.” She said with a small smile.

“Would you please testify about the night of the 20th of February?” He asked folding his hands.

“Yes.” She said nodding, and then cleared her throat.

Alex’s Testimony
“It was raining heavily in the area, which is why the ball game was canceled.

I was on my way to see the game, but heard it was canceled, so I drove back to my boyfriend’s house to hang out with him. He’s not into baseball as much as I am, so I didn’t want to go. I understood.

But didn’t want to be lonely, so once I got there I stayed with him and hung out until midnight and went back to my house.”

“Short, but accurate enough.” The judge said nodding.

“The prosecution actually has some questions first. Miss Kytes, do you have any proof that you actually went over to his house?” King asked with an almost devilish smirk.

“Why, yes. My boyfriend, Edward, will tell you.” She said, pointing to a man in the back of the court room. He was wearing dark green pants and a black T-shirt and vest that matched his black hair. He also had glasses that slide down his nose occasionally, to which he simply pushed up with his index and middle finger. When he heard ‘my boyfriend’, he looked over and gave a small with a small wave.

“Yes, of course he will, but do you have proof? How do we know he isn’t lying?” King asked, still smirking.

Objection!” Kaito yelled with the slam of his desk, everyone staring at him now, almost forgetting about him. “I am the one who has proof. A picture was taken at 10:23 PM on Edward’s street. It show’s this.” He continued, presenting the photo. It had a picture of a car driving past a red light, the driver being Alex. “It seems that the light turned red as you were driving past, so the camera took a picture.” He finished, smiling at the now cringing King. “You must also know that it takes more than 10 minutes to get to the ballpark from this location. She could not have been the murderer!” He exclaimed, still smiling at his triumph.

“H-How did you get that?!” King asked in a very upset tone.

“Why, from Detective White of course. I knew he was the detective, just didn’t know his name.” Kaito replied with a chuckle.

“Impossible…..” King complained, being taken aback, and then finally composed himself. “Please explain how the defendants finger prints got on the murder weapon then.” He asked, crossing his arms.

“Simple. The defendant is lying.” Kaito said, pointing at finger at Alexandra. He opened his mouth to continue, but was interrupted.

“It’s easy math if you think about it. The game started at 9:30 PM, but was canceled. If she turned back, then it should have actually taken less than 10 minutes to get to my house.” Edward spoke out, pushing up his glasses and smirking.

“Why are you adding on to this? It’ll prove her guilty.” King said sounding even more annoyed now, glaring at him.

“No, no, you’ve got it backwards. This will prove her innocent.” Edward replied, waving a finger.

“I-its true…..” She said quietly. “I didn’t turn back.” She spoke out, looking down.

“Then please testify about what really happened.” The judge said, watching her.

Why I didn’t turn back
“It’s been my dream….to be able to get to meet the team. Today was the day I was going to do it.

I was so sad to hear that the game was canceled that I just kept on driving until I finally realized I was in the parking lot.

I got out and went inside. They were still open, probably to clean up after the people who had already gotten there.

I started to wander the halls and found a door creaked open. I didn’t think it would hurt to take a peak.

Once I got in I realized this was where they got ready for their games. And the equipment was sitting in the corner of the room, just asking me to come over and look at them.

So I ran over and picked up all bats, swinging them and pretending I was a real baseball leaguer. If you check, my finger prints are on all the bats, not just that one.”

“Alright, the defense may now start their cross-examination.” The judge said, nodding towards Kaito.

“Alright.” He said, remembering the testimony. “May you repeat your fourth statement?” He asked, thinking to himself.

“Sure. I started to wander the halls and found a door creaked open. I-“

Hold it!” Kaito yelled, leaning forward and slamming his hands onto his desk. “You found the door just open? I thought the place would be locked.” He said, standing back up straight.

“Well this one wasn’t…come to think of it….an old man, looked like a janitor, was in the other room connected to it, maybe he unlocked it.” She said shrugging.

“How did you meet him?” Kaito asked, tilting his head a bit.

“When I was about to leave the room. He saw me and said have a good night. He sure seemed nice. I thought I was busted for sure.” She answered, chuckling when she remember him.

“Interesting……with this new prospective, I propose this court resumes tomorrow at the same time. The prosecution and defense will gather the evidence they need. Court adjourned.” The judge claimed, and smacked his gavel down.
