Title: A Sweet and Sour Day
Author: Super Judge Bro a.k.a me.
Rating: G
Genre: Slice of life
Status: Oneshot, complete
Pairing: None, just brothers bonding.

Summary: Years ago when the Gavins were young, Klavier
decides to open up a lemonade stand which becomes more than just
refreshing, but a competition to see who can sell the most lemonade
in a day...

"Holy cow bruder, it's hot today!"

The fifteen year old Kristoph rolled his eyes, while taking a quick glance
to his seven year old younger brother, Klavier, who was laying on the carpet
floor trying to keep cool.

"Of course it is hot, Klavier. It's Summer." Answered Kristoph and turned
his attention to the poetry book he was reading.

But brother came up to him and tapped him on the shoulder.

"What is it now?" Kristoph asked him.

"Let's do something about it." Klavier answered.

"The heat? And what do you propose?"

Klavier thought about it, until an idea popped in which made him almost raise
his arms in excitement. "Let's go swimming!"

"Have you already forgotten?" Sighed Kristoph. "Last week we were blowing
up the kiddy pool, when Mrs. Jenkins' cat suddenly leaped over the fence
and pounced onto the pool and popped it."

"The cat was so frightened that it ran into our shed and knocked several
things over. We got into serious trouble." He finished.

"Oh.. right.." Klavier sadly said. The memory of his parents scolding them
almost made him cringe.

"We could dig in the dirt and.."

"NO." Kristoph interrupted him.

"Then what can we do?" Klavier grumbled.

"Why don't you find something to help cool yourself down, I'm busy
reading." Answered Kristoph as he tried to get back into his book.

"Me? What about you? Aren't you hot?"

"Look at yourself, Klavier. You're wearing jeans and a long-sleeved
shirt, it's a wonder why you're hot." Replied Kristoph.

"And you're wearing a t-shirt and shorts..." Klavier looked at Kristoph's
attire. Both his shirt and shorts were a kind of lavender.

Kristoph sighed in annoyance. "Klavier, I said why don't you find something
to do?"

"Fine.." Klavier gave in and walked into the kitchen that was aligned
with blue and white tiles.

*******

Kristoph heard the front door open several times. What was his younger
brother up to? But he was too busy to look into it further, he had
to read this book for homework and ignoring it was not a possibility.

That was one of his many beliefs.

When Kristoph had finished a little over five minutes later, he went
up stairs to attend to the rest of his precious work, until the sound
of a loud thumping made him froze.

"What the..?" Bewildered, Kristoph marched down stairs and went out to
the front lawn.

There was Klavier with the coffee table set up front near the sidewalk,
he was busy drawing a sign until he had noticed his older brother
approaching him in a hurry.

"Klavier Gavin!" Kristoph gasped. "Why did you move the coffee table
outside?!" He was also surprised that his puny, little brother
managed to move such a heavy object outside and so quickly.

Klavier looked up from the sign he was attempting to make, using paper
and a red crayon. "Oh, Kristoph! How do you spell 'lemonade' again?"

"You will answer me right this instant!" Kristoph asked him again.

"The table? We made fresh lemonade yesterday, a lot of lemonade.
As I was drinking some, I remembered how little of quarters I had
in my pig bank." Replied Klavier with a smile.

"So I decided to sell some lemonade, two quarters a glass!" Klavier announced.

Kristoph could hardly believe it. 'Seven years old and already wanting
to sell lemonade?' he thought to himself.

He knelt down to his brother. "Klavier, are you sure? You're a bit
too young to do this..."

"But mom and dad always told us to be nice to other people. It's so
hot out that other people may be very thirsty."

"But I sold lemonade before, when I was twelve. You're only seven."
Kristoph said.

"You sold lemonade before?" Klavier asked.

"Yes, and I made many quarters too." Kristoph replied, trying
not to brag.

Klavier crossed his arms. "Oh, really? I bet I could make more quarters
than you could."

"Klavier, not this again.."

"My lemonade could also be sweeter and less sour too." Went on Klavier.

"Is that a challenge I hear?" Kristoph asked. Klavier smiled, knowing that
both brothers could never back down on a challenge.

"You want to sell lemonade too? We could both have our own stand,
sell our own lemonade... and make our own quarters!"

"Of course, I'll make the most quarters." Klavier finished with a cheeky grin
plastered on his face.

Kristoph adjusted his glasses. "You're on, bruder" With that Kristoph
took his leave and headed for the house to prepare. When suddenly he
realized something, 'How did I wind up into this?'

*******

Two separate tables were aligned near the front sidewalk. But unlike Klavier,
Kristoph had brought out his handmade stand that he had made in his
younger days, it had been cooped up in the old shed for many years and
was only seeing the light of day now.

Both brothers sat at their respective stands, glasses and jugs of lemonade
ready at their side. There was a big grin on Klavier's face, expecting
anyone could show up at any time.

As for Kristoph, he was still not the least pleased and sat quietly.

For about ten minutes, not a single person came. By now Klavier, who
had changed into a t-shirt and shorts, was quickly becoming impatient but
was still smiling the whole way.

Then he couldn't bare the time anymore, standing up he shouted
"Lemonade! Two quarters a glass!"

Kristoph looked up from a book he had brought out to read, he rolled
his eyes. "As if anyone is going to come running over when they hear that."

"At least I'm not reading a book!" Klavier's cheeks had puffed up in anger.
"Someone could pass by and you won't notice them."

"Klavier, look out there. What do you see?"

"....An empty neighborhood?"

"Exactly. It's blazing out, who in their right minds would go outside
like this?"

"Well, there may still be people out." Klavier said.

"Whatever."

*******

An hour passed and it was still hot as ever. Not a single glass of
lemonade was sold, and Kristoph swore that some of the lemonade were turning into
vapor and raising to the sun. All of the ice cubes had melted too.

Not only that, but the heat was making Kristoph feel very drowsy. He
was just about to give in and close his eyes, when he heard the slighest
sound of water being poured into a glass.

Klavier was helping himself to some.

"Klavier, I thought we were trying to sell lemonade,"

"...for an hour and a half." Kristoph was annoyed.

For a few seconds, Klavier turned and looked at Kristoph with innocent
eyes, with the glass still touching ihs lips. But when he realized
that he had served himself some, he spun around and quickly spat
it out. Lemonade went all over the table, glasses and sign.

"Oh that is SO mature." Kristoph rolled his eyes. He stood up and approached
his brother. "Let's clean that......."

There was something very different about his brother to him.

"...up.. Klavier Gavin, what happened to your skin?!"

Klavier looked down to his arms and legs, they were no longer a pale
beige that Kristoph shared, he was on the slight tanned side. Klavier shrugged
and touched his hand with his finger, it stung.

"Owww.." He muttered.

Kristoph's eyes grew wide as placed both of his hands above his head.
"You... you got sunburned! Didn't you put on the sun screen lotion
before going outside?!"

"We have sun screen?" Asked Klavier. He tilted his head.

"...C'mon, let's go inside." Kristoph tried to keep calm. He grabbed
Klavier's hand and pulled him to the house, he knew it stung Klavier,
but he had to get bruder inside now.

*******

"Look at you Klavier, I wouldn't be surprised if this tan of yours
lasts forever..." Sighed Kristoph as he applied a kind of skin cream,
that supposedly helps with sunburns, on Klavier's skin in the washroom.

"I like it." Klavier said as he looked at the burned skin along his
arms.

"You may like it, but what are mother and father going to say
when they see this?" Kristoph nodded no. "You didn't even wore
a hat..."

"Well either did you!" Snapped Klavier.

"I wore sun screen lotion. You didn't." Kristoph replied calmly.

"What are we going to do about the lemonade stands?" Klavier tried
to change the subject.

"We'll collect our things and take them inside." Kristoph said as he
just about using the last of the cream, but Klavier made a mad dash
for the exit.

Kristoph paused for a second and chased after him, "Where are you going?!"

"To get our stuff, what else!" Klavier called back as he grabbed
his baseball cap and ran out into the front yard.

"I'll get them myself, you stay inside!!" Kristoph shouted. "Being
inside will help with your sunburn!"

Klavier didn't hear him and continued to run for his stand, the coffee
table was now completely sticky from the lemonade that Klavier had spat
out.

"Eeew..." Mumbled Klavier as he touched his sticky piggy bank, that was
supposed to be filled with quarters from lemonade sales.

Kristoph had quickly reached him. "I said that you should stay inside."

"But I wanted to help clean up.." Frowned Klavier.

"...Fine." Kristoph gave in. "Ah, look at the coffee table. We have to wash
it thoroughly before mother and father come home..."

"And we didn't even made a single quarter." Klavier sulked.

"Forget the money. But if it makes it any better, we are considered
tied for having zero quarters." Replied Kristoph as he began picking
up the glasses.

"Wait." Klavier said. His hand reached for something in his left
pocket, and out popped a single quarter. He hastily dropped it into
his piggy bank.

Spinning around to face his older brother, Klavier gleefully shouted
"I win!"

Kristoph had slowly placed the glasses on the coffee table and did a quick facepalm.
"..Alright, you win. But can we just clean up now?"

"Sure!" Klavier smiled.

As Kristoph reached to pick up a glass, his hand had accidentally bumped it and
it had fallen to the ground with a thump. Luckily for the two, it had
landed on a soft pile of leaves that prevented it from breaking.

Now it only had a large crack.

"..Shoot!" Kristoph said.

Kristoph leaned forward to gently pick it up, but it just so happened
that Klavier went to pick up the heavy jug of lemonade. Just as Kristoph's
head was bent over, Klavier made the same mistake as Kristoph. The jug was
bumped over, but didn't fall overboard.

But the lemonade did. Yellow liquid tainted with sugar poured down directly
on Kristoph's head like a waterfall.

For a moment there, everything was quiet. Kristoph had paused from surprise
and was still hunched over with his hand just above the cracked glass.

Klavier had placed two hands over his mouth and uttered, "Oops..."

Kristoph looked up and was about to blurt something out, when..

Klavier began to crack up. The sight of Kristoph with his hair, face
and clothes completely drenched was very uncommon to see, to say
the least. Those wide eyes filled with startling surprise too.

"...Heh.... hah hah... Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!" Klavier had burst
into hard laughter.

At first Kristoph was silent, but then he began to crack up and finally
laugh along with his younger brother. Had they laughed in public,
people would probably stare at them. Luckily they weren't, and they
were glad. They could laugh the whole way through.

But Klavier had to stop as the laughter was starting to hurt his
cheeks and stomach.

"My, what a sweet and sour day." Kristoph joked as he wiped a drop
of lemonade from his nose. "But enough of that, let's clean up quickly.
I need a shower."

"Can I help you shower?" Klavier asked hopefully. He actually did
liked helping big brother and after this little incident, well...

'Yes." Kristoph said.

"Really?" Klavier asked wide eyed.

"No, I was joking." Kristoph rolled his eyes, he was back to his old
self again.

Klavier could only smile, glad to see his brother back to normal after
their burst of laughter. Not to mention that this day really was a sweet
and sour day.

The story is very sweet. I love family fics like this. There are some minor grammar and spelling mistakes, but nothing too bad so I won't trouble you with them. Nice work!
