Title: Forget Regrets
Author: Robin "Dragonryder" Carlisle
Rating: G
Genre: ....fluff?
Status: one-shot, complete
Pairing: can be read as gen, Phoenix/Edgey, Phoenix/Franzy, or Phoenix/Maya (I intended it as Nick/Edgey but it can be read however you want)
Summary: Slight GS3 Spoilers. I noticed that a lot of people were disappointed about Franzy not giving Nick the Shelley de Killer card from the end of JfA. So, I wrote this. And it just grew into something a bit bigger than I expected.

Can put on the main CR site if you wish.

Forget Regrets
By Robin Carlisle

Note: This is a “missing scene” from Trials and Tribulations case 5: Bridge to the Turnabout. Sometime after the first trial day but while Phoenix is still in the hospital.

Phoenix Wright looked up from the laptop on which he was currently reviewing one of Mia’s old case files as he heard the door to his hospital room open. A tall figure stood in the doorway, his magenta suit and frilly cravat giving his identity away as much as his face.

“Edgeworth,” he greeted, closing the laptop and setting it aside. “How did the trial go?”

“It was not…a complete waste,” the prosecutor responded. “I was able to show that more investigation was required. The rest, however, is up to you, Wright.” Phoenix nodded.

“Thanks. So, how did you keep the judge and the prosecutor from realizing who you were, anyway?” Wright asked, genuinely curious, though he also didn’t want the prosecutor to leave just yet. Being cooped up in a hospital bed alone all day was quite lonely.

“Gumshoe managed to arrange for a different judge than usual. As for the prosecution…” Edgeworth trailed off and glanced toward the door. Phoenix followed his gaze, only to see a whip lash out and strike the magenta-clad man across the face.

“Foolish fool who keeps the other foolish fool in suspense,” said a familiar voice from the doorway as Miles winced in pain. Phoenix gaped in surprise.

“Ms. von Karma! You…” he trailed off. Franziska cracked her whip in annoyance, though it didn’t hit the defense attorney. Nick flinched anyway, causing the young woman to chuckle.

“Even I will not whip a man while he is down. However, once you are out of that bed, I will make up for lost time,” the younger prosecutor said crisply, before her tone softened. “Only a foolhardy foolish fool would foolishly attempt to cross a burning bridge,” she scolded.

Phoenix suddenly noticed that the infamous whip was not the only thing Franziska held. Following the defense attorney’s gaze to her left hand, Franziska blushed—a rare occurrence for the young woman.

“You brought me tulips when I was shot last year,” von Karma said, thrusting the bouquet at Wright. “I would be remiss if I did not repay the favor.” Phoenix chuckled and shook his head. However, Franziska was not finished.

“I…have something else for you as well,” she said hesitantly. Phoenix raised one jagged eyebrow in question. “Last year, when I brought the evidence from de Killer’s hideout, there were four pieces of evidence in Scruffy’s coat. One was hidden in a pocket and I…did not notice it until later. I believe…that young Ms. Fey wanted you to have this.” With that, the young prosecutor thrust a small piece of cardstock into Phoenix’s hand. Glancing at it, Nick couldn’t help but feel a pang.

It was Shelly De Killer’s calling card, but it had been scribbled on to create a crude portrait of Phoenix, himself. Phoenix realized this was the drawing Maya had spoken of. Thinking of the young spirit medium, Wright felt a twist in his gut. Please be okay, Maya, he thought urgently. He was disturbed from his thoughts from the entry of the doctor.

“Well, Mr. Wright, you’re cleared to leave,” the young man said, glancing at a clipboard. After a long list of discharge instructions, the doctor and Edgeworth helped Phoenix into a wheelchair, as Franziska put his laptop and other personal items into his bag. Though he didn’t know it, he was about to investigate a case that had ties that reached back 17 years. It was a case that intertwined himself, Mia Fey, and the mysterious Godot. It was the turning point in his life. But at that moment, Phoenix Wright neither knew nor cared about any of this.

As the group passed the waiting room, they saw—or rather, heard—a young woman with short, curly hair who had an iPod turned up way too loud. Even from across the room, Phoenix could hear the RENT soundtrack blaring. Suddenly, the lyrics caught his attention.

There’s only us,
There’s only this.
Forget regrets,
Or life is yours to miss.
No other road,
No other way.
No day but today.

At that moment, being wheeled out of Hotti Clinic by Miles Edgeworth as Franziska von Karma whipped anyone who dared get in their path (as well as the young lady with the blaring iPod)—being helped by two people he had once considered the enemy—Phoenix Wright realized one thing.

If your life was full of regrets about the past, it wasn’t worth living. He had friends—some of whom were extremely unlikely, but nonetheless, they were friends. And as long as he had friends, he could handle whatever life threw at him.

Edit--fixed formatting and killed the evil run-on sentence of doom.

It ties up nicely... It's a good fanfic. ^.^
I always wanted to see the hospital scene... But I guess Capcom couldn't be bothered making an out of court Phoenix sprite. >_> Lazy buggers.
