If you're working in MSPaint, you should save it as a BMP or possibly PNG. Anything else will result in a loss of quality (giving you the grainy mess you have now)

edit: this is now my recolor thread. my second piece of work is iris... i guess ill call her "california girl iris" because she is blue eyed and blond. i changed her clothes, too <3

There seems to be an easier way to do sprite edits. I've done this to prevent Windows Server's boot screen flash. Open it in Paint Shop and just edit the color tables.

before you say "zomg that scene is crap", i am away from home and do not have the luxury of photoshop at the moment. there are a million shades of gray in those scenes
