These are all for fancases/games (not sure if I'm going to wait for the casemaker or just make something myself)...

Spoiler: Prosecutor Ji Hye Jang
Image
Yes, she is meant to be short.

Image Yay, a smiley.

Spoiler: Prosecutor Sunrise
Image
The similarity to Ji Hye is quite intended.

I'm hopeless at anything animated or side-view, so if you guys have some spare time, feel free to give me a hand on those... :P

(This thread was originally specifically about Ji Hye, so that's why the first 30 or so replies focus exclusively on her)

Also... since I'm not a very good spriter... and there's no really good models to base it off... I was wondering if someone could help do a side-view sprite (ie: from the prosecuter's bench)?

Just the basic one, I'll try to do the different poses by myself.

The sprite isn't too bad. A little stiff, but I certainly couldn't draw one from scratch. If you're going to do it this way I suggest you make the canon characters too. To make it blend better.

Only the clothes were drawn from scratch. The face is an edit of Adrian's.

Try to avoid completely straight lines (when do these ever exist in nature?) and too much symmetry. The lighting in her hair seems carefully done but it isn't visible at all, so feel free to work with many layers up to a very light shade. Her head seems a bit too big in comparison to the thin arms and slender shoulders, or rather, the other way around - open up her pose and be a bit more daring with the body.

I like that for the borders you chose a darker shade of the colour surrounded. Avoid absolute shades if you're going for a natural look though.. just a hint of brown in the hair base colour and -then- drawing a black or very dark brown border will change it a lot.

Taking only parts from an original sprite and then creating the rest from scratch bears the risk of severe imbalance in the final image - you have a natural face with soft curves and a well-pronounced jawline and a block for a body. Overall I do think it's a charming sprite and I can tell it's taken you a while, but try toying with body sprites until you feel safe enough to try your own proportions :) All the best.

Hm, I couldn't really find an existing body with a shirt anywhere near this one, nor of the right smallish size(except Dahlia, but I didn't really want the whole angled thing...)

For the lighting in the hair, it's meant to be very dark. That's the whole intention.

As for the proportions, I don't really see it as wrong. She's just not meant to be very wide. To be honest, she's already more so than I originally intended.

I do need to work further on the sprite though, and that's before getting to the task of animating it...

At least for the first case, I don't need any prosecution-view yet. ^^

I'm not very experienced with spriting, so this isn't so easy for me... :/
That, and a very strong lack of knowing how to use any feature-rich graphics programs in detail. Apart from recolouring the hair and reshading the face, all of that was done in Paint.

Although nothing was copy/pasted for this, Ini Miney's sprite was used as a reference.

Yeah. Still need to work around the bottom of the shirt and add some more detail to the arms, I think...
EDIT: And the strip down the middle with the buttons... and the buttons themself...

Mostly just the arms that need work now...

Hopefully the next update will be the last one before I start animation and other poses.

From here, I can't think of what else needs to be done(apart from adding badges and maybe a chest pocket on one side), but since I'm new to this I'm sure I've missed something, so please, fire away with any other suggestions.

EDIT: Update!

Wow, you've gotten a lot better since the last time I looked. Adding shape to her really helped a lot. Though I think you only need one pocket.

Ah, I think I just figured out what it was about her face that has been bugging me. The shadowing and the eyes. The shadow hangs lower than her hair would suggest, and here eyes are one pixel too close to her nose.

Image

As for the pockets. Personally I like the outfit better without them.

It's easy enough to do. Just trace the bangs again where the shadows are. Try to do it freehand if you can. That'll help make it look more natural.

Well, I've started working on the prosecution view sprite now...
The body is coming along nicely, haven't started on the face yet.
But...
DAMN. THIS IS SO MUCH HARDER. O_O
Now I see why so many people here are doing front-view sprites only... >_>

Having only one female character at that angle to use as a reference just makes it even harder... well, two if Mia's defence sprite is also used, but...

Don't worry about it too much. Just focus on a light source and make it a very light gradient. The face and neck will have their own blinding features to work on later.

Ugh... I simply cannot get a good side-view head, even the body didnt come out that great.
This is trying all three of editing her front-view head, using Mia's as a base, and using Franziska's as a base... nothing works! :(

Obviously far from completion, but how's it looking?

(Edited from one of Adrian Andrew's sprites - convenient, as the front view was also edited from Adrian Andrews)

UPDATE:

I give up on sideview. Seriously. Too much... I'll do it another time maybe...

Anyway, I just added another character (front-view), Prosecutor Sunrise

(got one more prosecutor to go, he isn't as much of a main character so might not be the next character)

Hmm... here's my opinion. ( Hey! take the P and I out of Opinion and you get an onion! :gant: ) Your female Character Ji Hye Jang's head is too big for her body. That, and it looks like you put it on a paper thin body, so detal shading will help flesh it out. Her hair definitly needs some shading as well. Try studying Original AA characters' hair to get the idea. Shading Detail will make a world of difference. It'll take a while (4-6 hours) but the end results will be worth it. As for the Prosecuter, I'd say his head may be a bit small for the body. Aslo, shading for the Hair As well. I can see you're making an effort, and that's good. AA Sprites ar Hard to get down and take a looong time to finish, but lot's of practice will make all the difference. :godot:
