though, on the neck, there are a few stray pixels. Also the hair can use a few more pixels in certain zones.
I take note on the detail ^^; but overall on your first try its good.

I took Phoenix's Colours, and made a pallette, yours doesn't have to be as neat as mine, but I did that on purpose one day because I was bored... Feel free to use it if you plan to make a phoenix someday.
And the reason your first one is kinda messed up is because of the Expression (Eyes/eyebrows+mouth) They can make a character look happy, sad, mad, excited, crazy etc.

Hrm...All I see that's wrong with it is that the coloring on 2's neck is kinda too light on the edges and the red in Matt's hair could use a bit of blending in with the black a little :3
