All right. So, today, I sat down and started messing with Klavier's sprite, trying to make him into one of my own characters. I have a general idea of what I want to do, but not exactly sure how to approach it.

Image

I've tried messing with the skin color, since Kast definitely isn't as tan as Klavier, but part of the hair shares some of the same colors which makes things... difficult. And I want him to look less... well, less Klavier-ish. Any suggestions as to how?

Try changing the bangs, especially the eyes, and possibly nose. Facial features are some of the most important things in identifying individuals.

Otherwise, very nice and clean.

Worked on it a little bit... beginning to look less and less like Klavier now. I feel like his right hand should be changed, perhaps fall to his side like his other arm, but editing the jacket and arm will be a pain...

Well, try making his skin lighter.

You might wanna remove the pocket on his jacket, or make it less show-offy.

I've tried making his skin lighter, with... troubling results (namely with the hair. It changed some of the colors and made it look really... well, bad.)

But, yeah, that pocket... that'll be the next to go. In fact, I kind of want to change the jacket's color again, and I thought of adding something to his shirt, like a logo or something. So, we'll see how it goes...

Yeah I think that some sort of logo on his shirt or even a lapel pin on his jacket would give him some character of his own- his own logo of sorts.

So far though it seems to be going well- good luck with finishing it.

Hope you don't mind, but I had a quick crack at changing the skin colour myself (I had some spare time on my hands) and I came up with this;

Image

Obviously I meant no disrespect by editing your work and if you want I can take it down. :]

Edit: Just realised I used the first sprite, not your recent one ><.. Here you go :X

Actually, that'd be nice to use once I can get my Eraser tool on Paint to do what I want it to do >.<

Anyway, here's a bit of an update:

Bye bye pocket, hello little insignia.

Nice insignia. You might want to save yourself a bit of trouble, and raise his shirt collar.

Raise his shirt collar... Do you mean where it goes around his neck, or lower on his chest? I lowered his collar because I didn't want him to have Klavier's "popped" collar, but I did want to fiddle around and have his shirt buttoned up more... though adjusting the collar itself to fit would be a pain.

Oh well :D Anything to make it better, I suppose.

Mar. 24: Edit times! I actually did this a few weeks ago, but never got around to making it transparent and posting it onto photobucket...

Image

Using your edits, Maelstrom, I managed to make this - a plethora of Kasts! Various alternations as well as his unshaded insignia (which, for my purposes, serves as a very important thing). I think my next priority will be raising where he shirt is buttoned, which means editing the collar itself.

Really cool. Only thing I can say is that I don't like the hair color  It looks too unnatural. And it doesn't go very well with any of the jackets.

Otherwise it's pretty good... maybe a little bit boring, but I can't think of anything that could help... and it's not smart to fiddle with it too much :redd:

Sounds like I hate it.. but I don't. I'm just trying to be constructive :udgy:

I decided I liked the gray best, so I'm going to stick with that from now on.

And don't get me started on hair color XD This one works the best for me, and since the Ace Attorney series. Though, I'm tempted to try Lamiroir's hair color.

But anyway - I "buttoned" his collar a bit and put another shirt on him, since I tend to wear multiple shirts too.

Image

Though, I didn't touch the other part of his collar at all...

EDIT: Looking at it now on here, it looks like where his collar meets doesn't match up the line going down his shirt. Gotta edit those later. And the Advance Wars thing... it's fairly true, isn't it? Blue, grey, purple with lighter skin... maybe I should try the palish-green, all-black outfit? XD Naaah~

Nice edit! Klavier's sprite sheet is a bit of a pain to use because he has a palette of like nine colors for his skin. XD

It looks like the left side of his face is sticking out too much. Try bring it in a pixel or two or three to make it look more symmetrical to the other side of his face.

Hm? Oh, I don't know. Not too long, I think.

And I've got a new idea - make his undershirt a t-shirt instead of the collared one, which means getting rid of that damned collar for good. So, here goes nothing...

Edit: Here we go. Not much of an edit, really, but it's different! I also changed the hair color.

Well, I think his cheek protrudes a bit too much. It may just be because of my personal preference, since when I draw, I tend to do cheeks more heart-shaped. His other eye needs a bit of softening too. Since they don't look the same. I tried my hand at showing you what I mean:

Image

Haha, sorry about that. I've never edited sprites in my life but I hope you get what I mean xD;;;

I don't think I edited Klavier's cheeks, but it's possible I might've botched em up when getting rid of all his hair... anyway, here's an updated one - edited the eye, cheek, and neck shading. Looking less and less like Klavier as we go along~

EDIT: My friend said he looked more like Kristoph than Klavier... o.O So I guess that's good?

Apr. 1st

No, not a real April Fool's edit... but I do have a comparison, as well as a minor edit update.

Image

I want to make just a few touch-ups, I just gotta figure out... where I want them XD I suppose I can continue on his jacket, since that's the absolute most Klavier-like thing on my sprite right now. I also have to finish it before the OCC deadline! :P

EDIT: And by the way, the thing to the right of his neck (your left) is hair.

It looks great, only thing I see missing now is the anti-aliasing (the darker pixels around the higlights) on the folds of his under shirt. You removed them from Klavier's sprite but now it looks very pixely for the sprite style instead of smooth. I suggest you keep the anti-aliasing on the sprite, as you left it on the coat so why remove it from the shirt?

Probably because when I was changing the colors from Klavier to Kast I messed up somewhere... I think I ended up using one color less.

Image

This any better? I also messed with his eye shading and tries to make them look more "natural" than they did... AKA more like Klavier's.

EDIT: Actually, when I did the anti-aliasing, the shirt's color was too light and stood out way too much... so I darkened his shirt color using the darkest jacket color. Turned out much better IMO.
