hey hey, got some more clay today but think i will wait on the Phoenix and edgeworth one until i have mastered making them stand up. I'm thinking i might do an Apollo and Vera one, or maybe Godot. But i'm not sure at the moment. Decisions decisions aye

Thanks Pearls :pearl: I'll take some better photos for you, I'd send you a pm but I can't figure out how to work it (I'm afraid i'm up there with :maya: or even :udgy: when it comes to computers)

Finally got some more clay this morning so I shall get going on some more and complete the ema and klavier one (his hair was so much fun) I have to redo his body though as my dad helpfully trod on it :aliahands:

Ha ha it's funny I started making these as a money makng scheme but i can't bare to sell them, anyone know how you could go about making latex moulds for them so I could make replicas? Making individual ones for people is too time-consuming and the materials are too expensive for me to be able to sell them as they are at even a vaguely reasonable price
Also if i did figure it out, would people even be interested?

Well my initial models and heads and delicate hairstyles such as Godot's I use Milliput which is actually a versatile putty apparently (according to the box) and you are meant to use it to sort out radiator leaks etc but its amazing because its really addesive and sets in 3 hours completely solid (hence why i use it for the heads as nothing worse then creating those chizeled features and then squahing it when attempting to attatch the hair) I would use it exclusively but its incredibly expensive for the amount you get.

So I've been trying some air drying clay called Das, which is ok and does dry solid... eventually and i'm now having to use glue to stick the parts together because this stuff just won't stick, on the other hand its much easier to do the whole body in one sitting whearas with the other stuff it was a case of making the torso shape then allowing it to dry, then making the clothing and tehn letting that dry etc .... swings and roundabouts i guess

I'm going to go into the nearby town tomorrow and see what i can get at the proper art shop, something imbetween would be perfect.

Also Godot's head is looking pretty nifty, can't wait to paint it and put on the grin

Oh and I use acrylic paints which unfortunately cocks up your brushes straight away so i keep having to buy new ting ones to do the delicate bits

this is turning out to be a rather expensive summer project, but really have a go as it's surprisingly easy really, i mean its the little clothing details etc that make them so if you have the patience and time then its great and my little models are giving me so much pleasure.

Also Ema and Klavier update, she's painted although i forgot her bag but then i figured it would be quite cute if Klavier was holding it for her so there we go Should be finished by tomorrow though.

Ema and Klavier are up well its a really bad picture but i don't really like this model its just been a pain in the arse, everything that could have gone wrong did so i basically rushed it to get it finished in the end, but the colours are actually a lot better then depicted, its night, not the right conditions to try and photograph stuff.

Wow. they were fantastic. The detail and out of radiator clay. genius. What i think would be cool is to have clay models of Phoenix, Apollo, Edgeworth, Franziska, Godot and Klavier all doing the objection pose that they do. obvioulsy different models or they could all be lined up.

Sweet nibblets? Is that some strange scottish saying? ha ha

I'm waiting for the damn models to dry now, Godot is completely made although in a number of pieces in the hope it will dry quicker, i'm so desparate to paint him :godot:

and I now have a model of apollo and Vera and they are kinda holding hands so its quite sweet, but i expect it will take a couple of weeks to actually dry *mutter mutter mutter* although not looking forward to drawing that bloody bear on her dungarees
Image

and i'm out of clay again :payne:

also i should do a gumshoe one shouldn't i, although i must say i'm tempted to do a Will powers getting into the steel samarai costume just because i love the little details and the more fun the clothing the better.... although thinking about it he has a hairy chest doesn't he *shudder*

umm i dunno if its scottish or not but its kinda like Holy smokes! :godot:

what? it takes a week to dry? well i bought a little pack of microwave clay thingamajigs that dry instantly when you microwave them, but the model become gooey and chewey. its kinda feel good to squeeze but it cant stand (for a standing model) and you can make finger prints on them.

Supposedly its meant to take 24 hours, hmph 24 hours my arse

thats why the radiator stuff was so great, 3 hours and solid as a rock, this other stuff takes forever. I just want Godot to hurry up and dry, i want to make him grin. His head is positioned so its slightly tilted back to one side, its all ready- in fact his head is solid as its the industrial stuff so i suppose i could paint it while i wait for the rest to dry..... :godot:

and that's why all of them (except the first :hobohodo: ) are all in seated positions, i mean they would become solid enough to stand but getting them to balance is another matter altogether, besides i like positioning them in various other poses, my poor mother has had to take photos of my and my ladyfriend in various positions so i can get them looking vaguely realistic, unfortunately they can be modeled perfectly and then when i come back to check later gravity has taken hold and it can be a right pigs ear

yeah might go do Godot's head now actually....

lol well i'm guesing You're probably English or Welsh seeing how we're from the UK. Also that would be an awesome scottish saying. All we've got is the typical "neddish" dialect that you can see from stuff like "chewin the fat" etc.

But yeah eventhough the models are taking a while to dry, they are well worth it. I mean they just look fantastic. Hell i would go as far as to say. "Quality". (And you'll never hear me say that again) XD

Ha ha yeah welsh... although living in England just to confuse matters

and thanks your remarks are just lush (sorry about that the only word i can think of that i used to say a lot in Wales but doesn't seem in use all that much over the border)

and just because i could i have painted Godot's head also his shoulders don't look wide because they are attatched to his arms which currently aren't attched to his torso.... he hasn't become weirdly thin with a huge head

Image

It;ll look better with a body etc i'm hoping also because his bottom and his legs (as one piece) and drying separately from various other body parts my mum just came in and said "why do you have a model of a man's lower regions?... and is that a lump between his legs?!" :bellboy: although i will add, No I haven't gone into that much detail....

Ah the Welsh. Scotlands 2nd best friends. Irish are first. England...well they come pretty far down. XD

:will: Must have been an awkward moment to explain the "buldge" between the legs. XD but yeah Godot's looking great. Can't wait to see the final version.

There is no bulge!! although if i were that way inclined i suppose it would be Godot I would endow with that honour. lol I blame my mum's dirty mind.

Mind you she also had something to say about Mia's bust...... until i pointed out i had been tempted to put one of Diago's hands on one ha ha (although i did go for the subtler hand very nearly disappearing up her skirt- it's just how i imagine him to be)

yay godot!
it looks good (i'll definitely make it later)

by the way i just bought a pack of la doll clay. and the shopkeeper say it will dry in 24 hour. (srsly?)
kay, if its true then i must make it in rush. and i'll search about color combination later (cant seem to find some colors).

so, may i ask you a few question?
do u use furnish / fernist / i dunno i forget (some kind of liquid that makes clay models shine)?
do u use tools to make those (uh, they're vry expensive, i'll suffer bankcruptcy if i buy those tools. maybe i'll just use toothpicks and else)?
whats the easiest model to make? (im amateur, :godot: )

thanks!

I would take the 24 hour thing with a pinch of salt.

And as for the easiest.... well I'd definately recommend doing a seated or lying position, and as for character I'd actually pick someone who might seem quite complicated, Maya for example is a good one because she has pretty easy but very effective looking hair style (I'm telling you making bloody Apollo's hair look right was the most difficult) and also because her clothes are sort of complicated looking and a little shapeless i means the body shape doesn't have to be perfect, i mean with mia it was difficult as her clothes are completely her body shape so there is no room for error whereas with Maya her body is hidden by the clothes and then of course it looks really impressive and complicated when painted when its actually just a few strips.

Also Godot is pretty easy in that you don't have to do eyes, eyes are the bane of my life, i can never get them right or even vaguely even. And his hair while time comsuming because there is a lot to it, is easy to actually do and his and Diego's are by far my favourite's hair wise. Obviously just start at the neck and do a small layer or rolls of clay then another layer over that and so on until you get to the top. I'd definately let the head (with a neck so its easily attatchable to a torso) dry before starting hair styles though, that way you can try and get the right shape with appropriate cheek bones etc and not ruin in trying to do hair.

I mean I'm basically learning as I go along as i never used clay before starting these.

And I don't coat them with anything, the acryllic paints are plasticy and shiney anyway.

Hope that helps.

I'm going to try a standing Payne with his hair flicking from AJ and I'm doing a Gumshoe and Maggey and a Phoenix and Miles iceskating, the latter is going to take forever though as i want to try and balance it on the 4 blades of the skates (also should I do phoenix grabbing Miles' waist as he falls or Phoenix having grabbed mile's waist has pulled his trousers down so miles is there with his boxers on and phoenix is sorta spralled on the floor?)

From a purely practical point of view that would make my life easier crouton, far easier to stand up with more of Phoenix on the floor....

Well then... if it makes it easier for you... XD Then go for it!!
*gets a kleenex for her nosebleed* XD

Although Phoenix grabbing Miles' waist is pretty cute on its own. ^_^ But if we're going to add shedding of clothing... by all means, please do it! XD

yeah i think about it last night and i decided to make maya.
and another question, you make the parts separately yea? so after they dry, you just attach them together with a glue, right? whats the best glue for it? and, it will stop drying if i sprinkle salt on it, so if i do sprinkle some salt to it and im finished, how will it dry??

anyway

Thought I'd help a little here (hope I'm not overstepping the lines). The term "pinch of salt" means that you shouldn't take something as 100% true. In this case, the person at the store told you the clay would dry in 24 hours. But it may really take longer (as has been the case for me when it comes to anything drying). Oh, I would love to see yours when they are done as well!

This may be the stuff you need here, except i don't think this place ships overseas. You should be able to find similar stuff:
http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.as ... ment&ID=64

They have a complete line of moulding supplies that allow you to make molds, then cast stuff using resin or soft metal. It's not cheap though (that 2 part epoxy putty would be cheaper).

Wow!! You have great talent! I especially love your Klavier/Ema even if you don't really like it.

And Godot's awesome, too! :godot: Can't wait to see more of your work :edgy:
