Well, I'm assembling a Shelly DeKiller Cosplay and, well, I have the suit, the vest, the undershirt, the bowtie ((I'm going to be the John Doe/Assassin Shelly.)) I have the shoes and ideas for how to do the makeup for the stitches ((although, any suggestions on that would be lovely.)) My Dah is going to be making me a monocle. Most of the costume is set to go, save for one thing...

The hair. I have very long dark brown curly hair that I REALLY don't want to cut and dye to get the Shelly style. So, in that case, I need a wig. I've no idea where to find one in his style, or how to do wig manipulation, if anyone could give me pointers/places to take a look at, I'd be most grateful.

With love,
~Harra

Erm, I'm sorry if this isn't very helpful, but my best idea is to just buy a black man's wig that you can kind of spike up, you know, and cut the far left and right sides down really short. Then spray paint the middle, longer part white.

Sorry. That's all I've got. XD

Ah, thank you, thank you. ^^ I was hoping someone could give me an inkling of help. I've also heard they have white hairpieces at Hot Topic that one could clip on.

I'll have to try the spray-painting, though, that sounds like so much fun, thank you. <33

Hey, it's doable if I re-raid the Hollow's Eve Stores, y'know. ^^

All I would need is a simple black wig ((possibly even a mohawk one, who knows?)) And white spray-paint. It could get VERY fun.

All the same, thank you much. ^^

Try looking for some kind of bald/skin-cap (No idea on the terminology) to put your hair under, then put the wig on on top of that. You might have to cut your hair (not drastically, maybe to shoulder length...) to fit it underneath the cap, I don't know exactly how they function with hair length.

my advice is a little advanced, but it might be of some use.

the first thing to be concerned with is the colouring, of course. spraypaint isn't the way to go, it'll be hard to keep contained and will make the wig really hard and tacky. not at all hair-like. instead, you have two major options.

first is to get a short white wig and use some wig dye to dye the sides and back black. you have to buy special wig dye to do so, which you can get from http://www.pettingzoowigs.com/wigsupplies_dye.html but as of right now, she doesn't have a black option (she has dark grey). you could also go the sharpie route, but you have to be careful with that rubbing off of things. her dye is actually based off of the sharpie formula so you can experiment a little with doing that and rinsing as you would her dye and see if that sets it better than just markering it on.

the second option is to get black wig and weft/plug in the white in the front. this is definitely less mess but takes a good bit more time and work. you can make wefts and sew them in, putting one at the hairline and blowdrying it back to cover some of the front. don't bulk up too much there, though, it'll get really unnatural looking. you'll want to trim some of the hair where the new wefts are going in so that you can cover it with the new fibre a lot easier. if you're using a base wig with a false scalp in it, you can trim them all the way down and use plugs instead, sewing the new fibre into the scalp itself and tying/melting it on the inside to root it firmly. if you want to go this route, i can give better, more detailed responses and show you some photos to go with it, but that's more or less what you'd do.

as for hiding your own hair, unless you have rapunzel-like hair, you'll be able to fit it under almost any wig or bald cap. depending on how much hair you have will change how you have to place it under, but otherwise it's just practice. you won't need a bald cap under your wig. a nude or black wig cap or woman's stocking will work just fine. just make sure that the base wig you get is short to start with, as many aren't thickly wefted enough to support chopping them down without you going back in to thicken them yourself (which is a pain). hope this helps, and like i said, if you want more details on anything, i can do that for ya ;3
