xD Alright guys. Some of you may know that I'm in the middle of making a 3-person Troupe Gramarye Cosplay.

Well, it's now a 4-person cosplay. A friend of mine stepped forward and said, "I wanna cosplay as Mr. Hat with you guys =D"

xD And I have no idea how to go about it. The clothing's simple enough, but what I need is ideas on how I can make him look like he's, well, made of wood.

and what should we do for his legs? Mr. Hat's legs are nonexistent.

XD Please help me out! I've never done a cosplay like this before where I actually have to be creative!

You could at least make them look like a puppet by drawing lines on their face where the moving mouth parts would be, as in... lines from corner of lips to bottom of jawline.
Unless you want to give them brown face-paint, as well, that's all I can think about.
Also must have the mustache and they'll have to squint, ahah.

I think improvisation is your best bet. Unless your friend is willing to cut their legs off, and everything.

I would say the best thing to do is have the same trousers/shoes/etc. as Zak/Valant. Good luck with everything, I can't wait to see what it ends up like!

Make a cardboard suit of armor for him/her (ie wrap them in cardboard). Seriously.

For the head, perhaps a mask/helmet? That's probably the best thing to do, although it might be a bit too difficult.

For the legs, I'd say give him white pants, construct that thing on which he supports, attach it to his front, and make him walk next to your Trucy for the entire day xD

In any case, it seems this is going to be a two-person type costume.
Mask... hmm.....
A wooden looking mask, perhaps, that exposes the lower jaw. All you'd have to do is then try to match the color of your jaw either with another mask piece, or just face-paint.

That way it gives a somewhat illusion of a puppet talking... I dunno.
I be quiet now.

^^ these ideas are all great! *scribbles in sketch book*

For his face we were thinking of using ordinary foundation or powder to make his skin look darker, and using a brown makeup pencil to make lines like a piece of wood.

For his legs, we brainstormed the idea of making a pair of pants out of wood-patterned cloth (does anyone know if they even MAKE that? O.o?).

Take some cardboard and wrap it into cylinder and put that one someones head. Cut out small holes for eyes, maybe draw a little on it and you'll have a perfect mr.hat head for nearly free. srsllyyyyyyyy

You should umm I think you should wrap a poster board like thing around your friend and try to hide the feet unless thats too hard to walk in. (off topic: I'd love to see your Troup Gramarye once your done, Troup Gramarye is pretty awesome).

Not a bad idea, but cardboard doesn't take kindly to being rolled up. It'd come out as more of a pentagon-shaped tube than a circle-shaped one. Though I could probably use posterboard or heavy paper instead =)

That would definitely be too hard to walk in, but I may be able to wrap a separate piece of posterboard around each leg, between the joints (leaving the knees free to bend)

Believe me, cardboard can do more than you think
Spoiler: Present Evidence

Rolling it around something cylindrical would be best but just working the cardboard with your hands where it curves nice works too

Posterboard would work too, but it would be pretty susceptible to being dented or crushed and you would have to paint it. I suppose wrapping posterboard with brown wrapping paper would get the same effect. It would be a good idea to seal the posterboard or cardboard with a clear lacquer so rain or sweat doesnt destroy it. If you're looking for a realistic Mr. Hat, I'd do those over face paint.

I almost made a prop Mr. Hat for a friend... I might still do it...

You may be able to make a car out of cardboard, but this would need to be curved =\

Yah, sorry Kazzu, but a car and a Mr. Hat head are kinda two different designs. What might work for one might EPICLY FAIL for another. :yogi:
It all depends on how comfortable the cosplayer wants to be though, too.
I personally like the pencil idea.

XD Wow. that's quite the creation. But, all the surfaces are flat. I need round. Though I might be able to find a carboard tube somewhere that's big enough to stick over his head. *head spins*

There are many curved surfaces on there (about 25% of the panels are curved, not as much as a cylinder, but the gold "booster" things ARE curved that much.) Do/say what you want about it, just tryin to help ya out. :mrhat: I'm out.

Hmm, you could try to find a Wide PVC pipe and apply some wood textures on it.
But I must say, I LOVE THE IDEA OF THIS COSPLAY!

It certainly is more unique to try than, say....
*coughcoughEDGEYcoughcoughNICKcoughcough*
...than some of the more popular characters.
Whatever you use, hope it works out for yah.

I too wanna see that o.o

Oh and I think the pencil idea was mine but it would be really hard to walk, but what you suggested earlier might work really well
