"IT'S NOT A TOPKNOT!", End quote XD

More specifically, I think it's a bun. If you're a girl, you know how if you put your hair up half and half, like a ponytail for just the top of your head? Something like that. That ponytail is put into a bun, that has a dark purple band around it. There are two sidelocks to either side of her bangs(which are cut really blunt, her sprite has always bugged me for that reason), and they're decorated with two bright, dark purple beads. Depending on your source, her hair goes down the length of her back, and is tied off much like her bun, with a purple band near the bottom(Almost like FFVII's Tifa, just no dolphin tail).

Wigmaking? I wouldn't look at it like real hair. Her bun would be better made if the wig itself were stubbed; more information on which could be found at Katie Bair's website.

Aaiiry pretty much said it all. ^^ Also, doing her topknot/bun probably won't work if you have layered hair, otherwise it'll appear to be spiky and frayed. As she said, get your hair in a half-ponytail near the top of your head and with your other hand, "fold" half of the soon-to-be-knot down and wrap a band around it.

"Maybe I can take that place of that topnot chick you used to work with."
"Does he mean... maya?" [/ end quote, brushel style]

I'm gunna be blunt about what I think is the best way to do this is with your own hair (may only work if you're resonabley long-haired):

Spoiler: instructions (quite long)
get cheap clip on hair extentions that match your hair colour as best as possible (only get maya's hair colour i you're planning on dying your own)

Get the hair seperate from the clip if possible, but keep all the strands collected at the end. Curl the fake hair on it's self into a bun. Glue/clip so it remains that way, twist a purple hair elastic round it. Put it to a side for later.

If you have a fringe, you're capable of looking even more maya, but for those of us who have a parting (me) tuck your hair behind your ears. get a decent, equal, amout of hair from each side, ether from your parting you just tucked away, or from eather side of your fringe.

Twist the strands a bit so they stay in place, and put a tight elastic round them. Slip on chunky wooden or plastic purple beads (don't even ATTEMPT glass, they way your hair down and are really expensive to boot).

If your hair's long enough, tie the rest back in a ponytail, then slowly and carefully pull down the elastic so most of your hair is out, but a small "tuft" remains still elasticated at the very bottom. This looks better the longer your hair is.

Remember the false bun from earlier? Use the clip you took of eairlier to clip in place at the top of your head. If you didn't remove the clip cuz you couldn't, just clip that away so it's practically invisable under your own, real hair, and do an extra clip on the inside of the bun securing it to your head.

Use hairspray to keep the whole think in place if you've got it.

I hope that helped all maya fey cosplayers out there! Please don't attempt to use only your real hair. I tried. It's difficult, looks revolting and messy, takes forever and is highly painful when you try and take it out cuz the elastics tankle with the hair.

Well, my hair's black, so Maya's hair was so very, very easy for me. The bun/topknot that we're discussing in this forum, well all I did was just ponytail part of my hair at the back with a black elastic band, fold it upwards, ponytail the fold again with another elastic band, then just cover the elastic bands with a purple ponytail-thingy (sorry, don't know the word for it, we peeps at home just call them ponytails ^.^). So, it's easy for me...:D
