I really have no idea how to go about making Kay Faraday's key that's in her hair. I'm not that good with props (well anything that's not sewn) so if any of you have any ideas how I can make this key, that would be great. Getting it commissioned is really out of the question since I need it for Otakon. Thanks in advance!

Either Model Magic (the crayola clay) or Paper Clay. I would imagine. But with both mediums there's a fault. One is that model magic is easy to break (unless maybe you use like a sealer on it. I don't know. I haven't used something to seal it.)
Secondly, the Paper clay MAY be too heavy if you don't do it completely right. like thickness and stuff. then again. Maybe a glaze can strengthen it. :3 good luck!

There's no way you could make it out of clay without reinforcement. A wood dowel would work perfectly for the shaft part, and it'd be light.

I like the idea of using a dowel, that'll probably last better once I add it to the wig. Maybe I'll have some good luck and find a pre-made wooden key or something when I make my tour of area craft stores.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The only think I could suggest that would be sturdy and light is assemble one out of wood it self. You could probably find some pieces at the craft store that will fit all your needs: dowel for the key shaft, ring for the key base, etc. You would probably have to screw some stuff together for the best fit, and then you would just paint it.
