Hi there.
I'm about to cosplay Nick this month and I need some help.
I bought a long-enough synthetic (plastic) wig, and I need to make it stand (how bad it sound lol).
I have only one question:
Would a hohova oil do the job? and if so, for how long?
Thanks in advance,
Haik O:

Well, for spiking, I usually use got2be glued hairspray. The spikes last for quite a while and it's also easy to use (though it gets your fingers a little sticky). It works pretty well for me. :phoenix: I wish you luck!

What helps is to find some way of hanging the wig in the direction you want Phoenix's hair to go. Make the angle slightly higher even, if that makes sense: when you turn it right side up again and put it on your head, the hair will always fall a little. Gravity's a pain. Hairspray it with the Got2B stuff (oils probably won't work in synthetic hair, would be my guess, since it's made of plastic and not human hair) and help it dry into place with a hairdryer that has a "cool" setting. (Too much heat will melt the plastic. Applying a tiny bit of heat is okay and will help the wig hold its shape, but a good rule of thumb is that if you're blowdrying it and your fingers get too hot, it's too hot for the wig and you need to put the hairdryer back on "cool".)

This won't work as well with a cheaper wig, but I'm not sure what kind you bought.

Hopefully all that makes sense?

Umm, I bought one in less than 10 bucks :payne: but thank you anyway.

Heheh- my last nick wig was a $10 wig also, but I didn't ask for advice first and I used spray adheisive XD Lol. It was good actually cause the con blew a storm up and my head was toasty warm XD (Was wearing a Feenie cosplay too :D )

My last Phoenix cosplay though, I used 1 shot hair colour and lots of hair gel. I liked it better cause it didn't show any of my red hair underneath, and it was more natural. Sadly though, I'm by far not an expert so maybe listening to other people is a better idea XD

Hanging it is a good idea especially since all of Nick's spikes goes the same direction, and I myself a blowdryer as well. Though about your wig...my friend bought a wig for $8 and asked me to spike it for her. The problem was the quality was very bad. I did my best, but it turned out very messy, frizzy and extremely poofy. In the end she decided to buy a better quality wig that costed about $20. For your wig, I'd say as long as you can comb it, and it's smooth, the spikes should turn out fine.

Use cardboard or construction paper! It's a lot more fun :D

Thank you all. I have another question.
Can I avoid the gravity effect if I'll hang it vertical like this?:

Of course! Hanging it like that while styling will make it a little easier for you. You should also keep it like that until you need to wear it.
