I had thought of a few options:
-I could do a more realistic type paintover of the Ami sprite you provided.
-I could do an original drawing of some kind.
-I could attempt spriting. It's not my forte, but I was tempted to at least try my hand at Ami in Fire Emblem cosplay. Are you familiar with this game? You might suggest a game you are familiar with.
-Ami cosplaying as Nami from One Piece. This could look pretty cool, I think. Again, the effect may be lost if you have no idea what this anime is =P.
-Ami in some other outfit?
You could invent something else altogether if you've got a good idea =D.
You know that the object of the contest is to create a new KiSS costume with the base provided, so grab the base and make an outfit! Nami or Fire Emblem or whatever you want to do is fine. ^_^ I'm glad you're participating.

The thing I love about KiSS dolls is that they are spriting in its most essential form: Crisp lines, two-toned shading, and no anti-aliasing. Of course, if you choose to do something a little more complex, that's certainly awesome, but my favorite dolls do a lot with a little. Here's an example: Playgirl. (That's what the doll is called. It's nothing graphic.) If you want to see the opposite end of the spectrum though, have a look at Aurelie Stormbringer. It's incredibly complexly drawn and shaded, and includes over 900 individual pieces of clothing. >_o
