Holy shit, haunted swing.Topic%20Title

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUYb_5Tb3fk

A 'HAUNTED' playground swing that rocks backwards and forwards on its own for days has scientists baffled. The phenomenon flummoxed police, who called physics professors into Firmat, Argentina. Locals claim the seat moves nonstop for TEN DAYS before stopping dead, while other swings remain still. Academics have now ruled out magnetic and electrical fields, and winds -- and called in ghosthunters.

While we're on the subject of ghosties, what is your stance on the paranormal?

Freaky... o_O

People on the comments are saying that it's a rewinded tape, however that is impossible as the dog is walking forwards.

I wonder what is causing this phenomenon...

That's really creepy. Especially towards the end when the two other swings are completely still and the middle one's still moving a lot.

I really have no idea what to think about the paranormal. But if ghosts to exist, I wanna become one when I die, because I think it'd be more fun that going to an afterlife. :D

Oh, by the way, did anyone else notice the 'footprints' at 0:30?

It's nothing to brag about, but a couple of years ago, my cousin, a couple of her friends and I would go to this park called Wapato Park and some strange activity would take place late at night.

Not only we would hear female screams of agony...but more to it happened.

I would tell the whole story, but it would seem far fetched and insane, so I am going to keep it closed from the public.

That completely ruins the point in telling us the situation in the first place you mean-butt. I hate you. Tell more.

Anyways, I find myself drawn to fun, creepy things like this. The swing sort of sucks though. While it may not be the way it was pulled off specifically, I know for a fact that there are several ways I myself could do it, and thus, it's not as fun.

You can't argue with the evidence. Now all we need is solid evidence proving that ghosts and what-not exist. Too bad it would be impossible to capture them on camera. And, lots of people will still call it a hoax. I don't think anyone, even in a billion years from now, will accept the fact that we're not the only lifeforms in the universe. Don't want it to impede on our superiority over nothing.

I'm going to argue that, while for sure we're not the only lifeforms in the universe (heck, there were bacteria on Mars. That's how easy it is), evolving to a sentient lifeform is really, really rare. You need very specific conditions for that.

That, and ghosts are something made up by men. This might be.. anything.

It would be quite easy to set up a harmonic oscillation by gently and subtly rocking the frame. There is always a rational explanation people. Look for it.

I dunno but it is possible to create this effect on film.

That's actually pretty cool/scary.

I don't see how there could be someone with a fishing line, considering people are walking around the swing set and there are no trees to hide in, it seems. Maybe the harmonic oscillation thing, but I can't see much in the way of other explanations for it.

Ghosts and the paranormal have always been an interest for me. They're just so... interesting to investigate and research. Of course humans naturally take an interest in what they can't explain, but still, this stuff is cool.

It's academically interesting but I'd be lying if I said I was a believer. I've done shit like spend a night in a haunted house (for charity I hasten to add) and if there's stuff out there it's not talkin' to me, even when I've had a few beers :) It's kinda funny watching other people who think they're being possessed and stuff though - mass hysteria is interesting. I just wait on the sidelines with camera, tea and Rescue Remedy.

I may be academic-minded, but I have a firm belief in the paranormal. I've had more incidents than I care to explain, and most of them involve the hauntings at the college. I kid you not. The school I go to is haunted. It's eerie. My dorm's particularly a magnet for a lot of the spirits in the building. Especially this spirit of a little boy. He likes to steal my stuff while I'm watching and dump me out of my chair, which is hard to do.

I love this stuff! =D I believe in a lot of it mainly because I really want to. I find it so interesting. I used to be into the whole magic shabang too, there's definitely something out there =O

However as for that swing... I'm not entirely convinced. Whats with the person at the start? And they all start off swinging, it's jsut the middle one that gains momentum. It's kinda creepy though, swings the way a child would... Its hardly a creepy set up though lol I'd be the first person scouting for fishing lines. It's the kind of thing someone would set up to say 'explain that then'. Of course it'd be the middle swing wouldn't it? Might be the wind if it was the right or the left...
...So then I went home

Re: Holy shit, haunted swing.Topic%20Title

I've yet to see an explanation for what that person was doing at the start of the video, it seemed like the most obvious thing to cast suspicion on, but most have seemed to overlook.

The swing is obviously a hoax, created to bring tourists to a town that would otherwise never be visited, and there's many ways they could have pulled the hoax off.

The only thing about the video that I find interesting is the indentations in the sand that appear around 0:30, I'll go ahead and call them footprints. I have no idea what created, although of note, is the blur that follows the 'footprints'... after the blur goes away, the footprints have vanished. Leading me to believe that the indentations were in fact something on the camera lens, and the blurry thing, is likely to have been someone wiping the camera.

Oh, for the record, I am a believer. :S

I've actually done something like this before. You basically stick ... christ, what are they called, a few inch tall staple-like things in the ground, only slightly loose enough that the fishing line can pass through freely. That way, the fishing line is slightly above the ground, but people can walk around it.

That's just not what they did for this swing thing in particular.

Oh sorry about that ^^;;; At night my spirit likes to leave my body, and this is probably it on the swing o.o Not being able to swing during the week does things to my head o.o

XDDDD That is seriously freaky and awesome at the same time xDD I love to swing, and this would be the most epic swing to ever swing in (or by, dun wanna squish the ghost o.o) there is no way this is wind, that is unbelievably cool

As for the "foot prints", that really looks like water hitting the camera and that really does look like a finger wipeing it off, but for the water or whatever it is to be in a line like that... tis creepy :beef:
Re: Holy shit, haunted swing.Topic%20Title

Yes, it's obviously not wind. The middle swing clear builds up momentum, there's no way they would be able to focus the wind only on the middle swing.

I quite like Holy Hell's theory.

The video was intresting. i didn't see any footprints personally or whatnot, but if it wasn't fishing line that created all that momentum, then it has to be one of my favorite subjects, ghosts XD.

i've had WAY too many instances where there was some kind of paranormal thing going on not to believe that there are ghosts in this world. i've had stuff move on me,stuff turned on without me touching it (i'm serious O_O,my coffee maker turned on by itself once),sounds like a person moving around ect. . i've seen a ghost once actually,it's like most people say when they see a ghost, they only see it for a second, then it dissappears from sight.

Electrical problems can cause things to turn on; sounds can be attributed to natural movement of houses, animals and/or hallucinations, there's almost always a logical explanation for things moving, but most people will ignore any possible explanation because they want to believe that they'd had a paranormal encounter. Catching a glimpse of a figure is definitely over-active imagination, and most sightings aren't like that. The only paranormal creatures that supposed to disappear when you try to look at them are the supposed "shadow people".

However, I'd like you give me more details of your experiences so I can debunk them fully.

all right then

:testimony: (sorry,i don't get to use this often ^_^"")

i'll start off with the coffee maker thing. mainly from what i remember,i was alone in my living room, but it felt weird that night, maybe because i was alone...but anyway. i started to drift to sleep when i hear crackiling and the coffee pot was turned on. there was no energy spikes or anything of that sort that had happened at that time. it just simpily turned on by itself

there's no possiable way that there is natural movement of my Apt. unless the whole building is moving (or i'm just being stupid by saying this). i was tired at the time of the sounds and we have mice...(not because the Apt. isn't kept up,the Apt. building maintance and cleaning crew are really shabby >_>).

now it might have just been my imagination,i have no idea, but i saw my G.mother when i saw a glimpse of the ghost... (might have been my mind...and what are these 'shadow people'?.)

now prolly you'll shoot down my explanations easily ^_^""

however...one thing is un-explainable in any way possiable. sometimes in our Apt...it seems like mothballs (weird smell...),my great G.mother always smelled of mothballs, and there is not one mothball in this entire Apt. . i've smelled this strange smell,my mom has, even my friends have (and one isn't into ghostly stuff)

My maternal grandmother returned during the Hungry Ghost Festival. In Chinese culture, the gates of hell open at this time and the ghosts are allowed a day to visit earth.

My mom and her sisters prepared her favorite cake for her. The next day, we found her footprints embedded in the cake.

I also revealed I had/have some control over local winds since I was a toddler.

Soo...there's the paranormal. I believe in it, but I think my attitude towards it is a little different from you guys.

I'm always very reluctant about talking about paranormal stuff, because I don't believe a single thing of it. Mostly because when people say they can do such and such, they never actually do it. Or do it secretly for a good cause. Go inform the wind that it should move a giant turbine for free green energy, say.

Sheesh I'm a boring person.

I've been told that ESP (particularily to ghosts) exists in my family, but I'm in denial :grey:
I have a particular fear of things inexplainable by science and therefore I think I'd just break if I witnessed a ghost-encounter.
Although I do think it's a possible occurrance I haven't experienced anything personally. I had a cousin who used to live in a place where there was a river nearby... apparently a young girl drowned in it, but she didn't know this until she asked around after a certain incident.

I don't know about the swing, but that part at 00:30 with the footsteps and black figure seems eerie. Though that's not a hard special effect to pull off.
